As a motor t h e u n i t o p e r a t e s a s a synchronoud motor.
CHARACTERISTICS
A synchronous motor o p e r a t e s a t a c o n s t a n t speed r e g a r d l e q a o f
l o a d . It must s t a r t a s an i n d u c t i o n motor. When t h e motor
comes up t o speed e x c i t a t i o n i s a u t o m a t i c a l l y a p p l i e d and t h e
motor g9es i n t o t h e synchronous motor mode. I f t h e motor becomes h e a v i l y overloaded it f a l l s o u t of s t e p and goes i n t o t h e
i n d u c t i o n motor mode.

CONNECTION
The power s u p p l y must be a 120/240 v o l t , 4 wire, 3 ' p h o s e d e l t a
t o o p e r a t e t h i s motor a s i t l e f t t h e f a c t o r y .
It w i l l operate
o f f a 240, 3 wire.wye system i f i t 5s ungrounded.
I f t h e motor does n o t have t h e proper d i r e c t i o n of r o t o t i o n ,
r e v e r s e t h e black and red plugs.

t r i g g e r s t h e T r i a c SCRl i n t o conducting and e n e r g i z i n g r e l a y
K3. T h i s p r e v e n t s time d e l a y r e l a y K 1 from energizihrg. When
t h e motor comes up t o speed t h e c u r r e n t d e c r e a s e s . 'The v o l t a g e
s i g n 0 1 a.cross R4 d e c r e a s e s and f a l l s below a v a l u e r e q u i r e d t o
keep SCRl conducting. K3 i s then deenergized and K 1 becomes
e n e r g i z e d . I t s c o n t a c t s a r e a c t i v a t e d a f t e r a s h p r t time d e l a y
and when i t s c o n t a c t s a r a a c t i v a t e d r e l a y K2 i s e n e r g i z e d and
it c l o s e s t h e f i e l d c i r c u i t and e x c i t a t i o n i s a p p l i e d t o t h e
f i e l d . The motor i s now o p e r a t i n g i n t h e synchronous motor mode.
I f a heavy overload i s a p p I i e d on t h e motor and t h e motor f a l l s
o u t o f s t e p t h e l o a d c u r r e n t w i l l be such a s t o i n c r e a s e t h e
v o l t a g e a c r o s s R4 which w i l l cause SCRl t o conduct and e n e r g i z e
K3. T h i s d e e n e r g i z e s K 1 which removes t h e e x c i t a t i o n from t h e
field,
