IT Server Roles Setup (sg v10.1)
How to Add the Application Server Role on Windows Server-2008
This document describes how to set up the Application Server Role to host Galaxy components.
IMPORTANT NOTES: »
Before you install the .Net Framework (part‐1 of the Galaxy DVD) or the SG Web Module on a Windows® Server 2008 operating system, you must set up the Application Server Role to host these services. STEPS: 1. Start/Open the Server Manager tool, which is found in the control panel or the Windows Task Bar. Figure 1 – Windows task bar 2. Select Roles in the object tree (left pane) and click the Add Roles option. Figure 2 – Server Manager tool Galaxy Control Systems Page 1 3. In the Add Roles Wizard and Server Roles option, do the following: a. select the Application Server check box b. click the Add Required Features button ‐ the dialog will close and the Application Server check box should be checked Figure 3 – Add Roles Wizard ~selecting required features Galaxy Control Systems Page 2 4. In the Add Roles Wizard, the Application Server option should now be checked. Click Next to continue. Figure 4 – Add Roles Wizard ~ selected Application Server 5. In the wizard, the Application Server information screen will display. There are links on this screen to helpful information about the Application server. No configuration steps are performed on this screen. Click Next again to continue. Figure 5 – Add Roles Wizard ~ Application Server screen Galaxy Control Systems Page 3 6. (OPTIONAL – skip this step if you are not installing the Web Module) If you are installing the Web Module on this machine you must check the Web Server (IIS) option. A confirmation dialog box will display (see fig.6 below). Click the Add Required Role Services button. Figure 6 – Add Roles Wizard ~ adding Required Role Services dialog 7. When the dialog box closes, the Add Roles Wizard should show the Web Server option is checked. Click the Next button to continue. There are links on this screen to helpful information about the Web Server (IIS). No configuration steps are performed on this screen. Click Next to continue. Figure 8 – Add Roles Wizard ~ IIS info screen 9. On the Select Role Services screen, accept the default IIS options and click the Next button to continue. Figure 10 – Add Roles Wizard ~ Confirm Installation 11. When the Confirm Installation Selections screen displays, click the Close button. Once the wizard closes, the Server manager should now indicate that the Application Server and the Web Server (IIS) roles have been installed.
