This online operating manual is intended as a brief overview on how to operate the Vaporlux
4000 UL and 5000 UL. For complete safety, operating and maintenance instructions, please
see the Instruction manual that was delivered with the equipment.
Vapor cleaning is a unique way of cleaning. Understanding how vapor cleaning works will
enable you to clean more effectively. The dry vapor, in the form of gas, penetrates into the
surface pores and violently expands, forcing dirt and debris to the surface where the particulate
is either suspended in re-condensed water molecules or driven into an absorbent cloth. The dry
vapor is super heated and is hot enough to kill bacteria and sanitize all surfaces. Vapor cleaning
does not rely on pressure in order to clean efficiently. Once the vapor is emitted from the tool
head, physics take over and the vapor works on it own. Therefore, only enough vapor is
required to fill the pores under the tool head and it is not necessary nor desirable to operate the
equipment at full volume. More effective cleaning results are achieved by turning the volume
down and let the vapor and heat do the cleaning. If the equipment is operated at too high of a
volume, it will use too much water and oversaturate the surface that you are cleaning.

Start Up Instructions
Before using the appliance, carry out the
following operations:
Unscrew
Screw
- Unscrew the filler cap (I) (Fig. 4)
- Fill the boiler with clean tap water using the
water bottle or funnel provided (Fig. 5)

NOTE
To fill the boiler correctly, do not exceed the
amount of water specified in the technical data.
- Screw the filler cap (I) applying some pressure
and make sure it is well tightened (do not overtighten) (FIG 4)

-Plug the appliance to the electrical outlet (Fig 1)

- When the red light turns on, it indicates that
the boiler has run out of water. If this occurs, the
thermostat will automatically shut off the appliance
and you will need to carry out the following procedure.
A) Stop whatever job you were doing immediatly.

b) Release any pressure left in the boiler through
the accessory you were using by pressing the
button(H) on the handle (2) (Fig. 6)
c)Switch off the machine by pressing the main
switch (E)
d) Unplug the appliance.
e) Make sure the pressure gauge is on zero
f) Loosen the filler cap (I) and wait for the pressure
to be fully released.

OPERATING TIPS
We have provided the following operating tips so that you can maximize the
effectiveness of your new VaporLux equipment.
Start Up and Shut Down
1. Always fill the boiler with the water bottle or use a pitcher and funnel,
never place the unit directly under the tap when filling, water can
migrate into the machine and cause an electrical short circuit.
2.Do not overtighten the filler cap. The cap should only be finger tightened
until it is snug. If the cap is overtightened, the next time you use your
machine, vapor will leak from the cap, Should this happen, there is an
O ring attached to the handle of your machine. These O rings are made
of high temperature material and regular O rings will not work.
3.You can use hot water to fill the boiler, hot water will decrease the
heating time required to come up to operating temperature.
4.Wipe the top of the waterfill orifice on the machine after filling, you
will then be able to tell if the filler cap is sealed correctly.
5.Check the voltage of your power source before plugging in the machine.
Not enough voltage will cause stress on the internal components and
possibly cause equipment failure. Too much power is equally dangerous
to your machine. A surge protector can be placed between the outlet
supply and the extension cord to protect against spikes and surges.
6.When you plug in the VaporLux extension cord, make sure the lighted
end of the cord is lit. If it is not, check your power source.
7.Do not pull the machine by the cord.
8.Always make sure the on/off switches are in the off position before
plugging in the machine.
9.Never turn off the machine by unplugging it, always turn off the switches
first.
10.You can heat the machine ahead of time so that when you need to
clean, the machine is ready for operation.
11. When you are done cleaning, turn off and unplug the machine, do not
leave it on overnight or for extended periods.
12.If you are not going to use the machine for an extended period, drain
the boiler.
13. When operating, do not pull the machine by the hose.
14. Before refilling the machine, make sure there is no pressure in the
boiler before you remove the filler cap. Pressure in the tank can be
released by pressing the vapor button on the hose handle.

OPERATING TIPS
Operation
1. When vapor is initially released after the green light activates, press
the vapor button on the hose handle for a second or two. Notice that
pressure immediately falls off on the pressure gauge. Let the pressure
build up again until the green light comes back on. This will stabilize
the pressure in the tank and the machine will run continuously without
a large pressure drop.
2. When vapor is first released from the hose after the machine has
reached operating temperature, notice that the vapor will contain
a higher water content than is desirable. This is normal since the
hot vapor recondenses when it interacts with the cool hose. After
the hose heats, the vapor will become drier and cleaning performance
will be enhanced.
3. Peak cleaning performance will be achieved after the boiler is 3/4 full
or less, this is because there is adequate room in the boiler for enough
vapor to form.
4. To facilitate the process of changing tools, lubricate the O rings in the
hose handle with a vegetable lubricant or petroleum jelly. This will also
extend the life of the O rings and make tool changing easier.
5. If vapor leaks from the operating handle or around the tool, replace the
O rings (2) in the hose handle. Extra O ring are located on the handle
of the machine.
6. VaporLux machines do not clean by pressure or volume, they clean
by delivering hot vapor into the surface pores. The vapor molecules
violently expand and force dirt and debris to the surface. Too much
vapor just results in a wetter surface, it does not clean better. The most
common mistake is turning the volume too high. The vapor volume
never should be adjusted over 1/2 turn and most of the time 1/4 to 3/8
turn will deliver better performance.
7. Your VaporLux cleans primarily by heat. Notice that the second pass
you make over an area is cleaned faster. The first pass you make with
any brush should heat the surface and raise the temperature, every
subsequent pass will bring more dirt and debris to the surface.
8. Do not press down hard on the brush, your VaporLux does not clean
by abrasion. The different brushes break the surface tension of the
dirt or debris that you are cleaning so that the vapor can penetrate the
surface. Brushes will perform better and last longer with a light touch.
9. If you are unfamiliar with the way your VaporLux will react with a
surface, always test it in a corner or out of the way area using the
brush you intend to clean with.

OPERATING TIPS
Tile & Grout: Work in small sections. Clean the grout lines first. Throw a
rag on the floor and wipe the grout line before the dirt or debris has a chance to
settle back into the surface pores. After cleaning the grout, clean the surface tiles
using either the triangle brush or the 12” wide brush, depending on the size of
the section you are cleaning. Clip a terry
cloth or microfiber cloth over the brush. Always clean corners and hard to reach
areas first, then work toward the center. If your VaporLux does not clean a grout
surface, there is a sealer on the surface. Apply a high quality sealer stripper to
the area, let it set for several minutes, then resume normal cleaning as described
above.
Fabric & Carpet Stains: Several techniques can be employed for this operation.
On small stains, use the nylon detail brush directly on the stain, then wipe vigorously with a clean dry cloth. Another method is to place a clean dry cloth over the
stain and gently go over the area with the detail tool and nylon brush, this will lift
the stain onto the cloth. For
auto interiors and carpet, use the triangle brush with a cloth covering
clipped to it. Do not clean the headliner on your auto, the glue can melt
on certain cars and the headliner will drop.
Hardwood Floors: Use the 12” wide brush wrapped with a double layer of terry
cloth or single microfiber. Turn the volume down. Do not use the detail brush on
hardwood. For other wood surfaces, use the triangle brush with a cloth covering
and turn the volume low. Do not use the detail tool on wood surfaces.
Sanitize Bedding and Fabrics: Use the triangle brush or wide brush without a
cloth covering. Go over the entire surface slowly and let air dry.
Metal surfaces: Use the detail tool with the appropriate brush first to clean
corners and hard to reach areas. Next, use the triangle brush or wide brush
covered with a clean dry absorbent cloth. Use only the nylon brush on enamel
covered metals.
Waxed Surfaces: Do not use your VaporLux on waxed surfaces unless you
intend to strip the wax off the surface.
Other Surfaces:Your VaporLux can be used safely on most surfaces.

Using The Accessories
Dry Vapor is suitable for cleaning, sanitation and restoration. Due to the high temperatures achieved by your VaporLux, it is highly recommended that you test the surface
before cleaning it. It is always a good idea to test
the surface in a corner or out of the way area so that you can be sure that
it is not damaged by heat or abrasion of the brush that you are using. Dry vapor is the
perfect substitute for all detergents. Vapor not only cleans and restores, it sanitizes all
surfaces.
Triangle Brush:
Installing the Elbow Connector: Hold the Triangle Brush in one hand with the brush
bristles facing down. Slide the White Switch all the way forward to the #1 (Assembly) position. Hold the Elbow Connector in the other hand with the long end facing down. Insert
the Short End of the Elbow Connector into the Triangle Brush until the Elbow Connector
is completely seated against the Triangle Brush (effort may be required). After the Elbow
Connector is seated, rotate it 180 degrees until the arrow on the triangle brush aligns with
the arrow on the Elbow Connector. When the arrows are aligned, slide the White Switch
to the Number 2 or to the Number 3 position.
Note: The white slide switch locations indicate the following:
Number 1 Position: Insertion and removal of the Elbow Connector
Number 2 Position: Elbow Connector will not rotate.
Number 3 Position: Elbow Connector will rotate with the tool.
To change switch positions, the arrows on the brush and on the
Elbow Connector must align. Positions are indicated on the brush
head.
Applications:
The Triangle Brush may be used for diverse applications, on many surfaces.
It can be used on almost any surface type including (but not limited to) the following:
Fabric, All Metals, Ceramic, Stone, Porcelain, vinyl, leather and plastic.
Generally, use of the triangle brush is dictated by the size of the object or surface being
cleaned, rather than a specific surface type. The Triangle Brush is used when the surface
is too large to be cleaned with the Detail Tool or too small to be cleaned with the Wide
Brush. The Triangle Brush can also be used
on large areas that are that are too dirty for the wide brush to work effectively.

Using The Accessories
The Triangle Brush can be used with or without a cloth over it. When used without
a cloth over it, on hard surfaces, the surfaces will need to be wiped with a clean,
dry cloth immediately after passing over the surface with the Triangle Brush.
When cleaning a rough textured surface it is more desirable to clean without a
cloth or mitt over the brush. The Triangle Brush can be used on fabrics without a
cloth when the desired goal is to sanitize the fabric more so than clean it. To
remove certain carpet stains, place a terry cloth or microfiber cloth on the stain
and gently apply the triangle brush to the stain. The stain will incrementally be
driven into the cloth. Gradually, move the cloth to absorb the stain into clean areas
of the cloth until the stain is gone.
Most of the time, better results will be achieved by placing a terry cloth or microfiber
cloth over the Triangle Brush. This is done by placing the cloth on a smooth surface
and neatly folding the cloth over the brush. Push down on the clips (located on top
of the brush) and tuck the cloth underneath. Release the clips and the cloth will be
securely fastened to the brush. When covered with an absorbent cloth, cleaning
becomes a one-step process. Simply wipe the surface slowly and all dirt and debris
will be driven into the cloth, hard surfaces will usually dry in less than a
minute(fabrics will take slightly longer to dry) and all surfaces will be sanitized.
When using the Triangle brush, adjust the vapor volume to about 1/4 turn open.
This can be down by turning the volume knob clockwise until it stops. Then turn the
volume 1/4 turn clockwise. If the vapor volume is turned up too high the surface will
become oversaturated with water and will require more time to dry.
Wide Brush:
The Wide Brush (12”) is used to clean large areas. The Wide Brush is faster than a
mop and certainly does a more effective job. The Wide Brush is generally used more
for daily or weekly maintenance and sanitization
rather than for restoration. There are however always some exceptions.
Installing the Elbow Connector: The Elbow Connector can be installed into the Wide
Brush by the same method described in the previous section: Triangle Brush.
Please refer to the Triangle Brush section for detailed instructions.

The Wide Brush can be used on Fabrics, Metals, Ceramic, Stone, Porcelain, Vinyl,
Leather and Plastic, as well as other surfaces. As with all VaporLux Accessories,
test an out of the way area to make sure that the extreme heat does not harm the
surface which you intend to clean.
Use of the Wide brush is dictated more by the size of the area you want to clean
and sanitize rather than the surface type that you intend to clean.
The Wide Brush can be used with or without a cloth over it. When used without a
cloth over it, on hard surfaces, the surfaces will need to be wiped with a clean, dry
cloth or mop immediately after passing over the surface with the Wide Brush. When
cleaning a rough textured surface it is more desirable to clean without a cloth or mitt
over the brush. The Wide Brush can be used on fabrics without a cloth when the
desired goal is to sanitize the fabric more so than clean it.

When using the Wide brush, adjust the vapor volume to about 3/8 turn open. This
can be down by turning the volume knob clockwise until it stops. Then turn the
volume 3/8 turn clockwise. Ocasionally more volume will be required. However,
volume shoud never be turned up over 1/2 turn. If the vapor volume is turned up too
high the surface will become oversaturated with water and will require more time to
dry. Also, It will be difficult for your VaporLux to maintain pressure for extended periods of time.
Squeegee:
The Squeegee can be used on Glass, Windows, Countertops and other smooth
surfaces. As with the other tools, the Squeegee will both clean and sanitize.

Using The Accessories
Glass Cleaning: Adjust the volume to 1/4 turn or less. Start at the top of the window
in one corner and pull down to the bottom of the glass. Repeat the
process on successive strokes moving over with each stroke until you have reached
the other side of the window or pane. Wipe the bottom of the sill or pane with a clean
dry cloth. Excessive vapor volume will result in too much water on the glass surface.
Simply turn the vapor volume level down.
Smooth Surface Cleaning: Adjust the vapor volume to about 1/4 turn. Start at one
corner of the surface and slowly work your way across until you have gone over the
surface. Wipe with a clean dry absorbent cloth when excessive water builds up or
when you have completed.
Detail Tool:
The Detail Tool, as the name implies, is used to detail clean small areas that are difficult or impossible to clean using any other method. You will be able to clean areas that
are too small to clean with a tooth brush or similar tool.
The Detail Tool should almost always be used with a detail brush screwed onto the
end of the Detail Tool. Some exceptions to this are cleaning condensers, radiators,
artificial plants and real plants.
It is important to first determine the appropriate Detail Brush for the surface that you
are cleaning. If you are unsure about the type of Detail Brush to use, always test the
surface in a corner or out of the way area on the surface you want to clean.
Nylon Detail Brush:
The Nylon Detail Brush is used when there is a possibility of scratching or maring the
surface. When in doubt about what brush to use, use this brush first. this brush can
generally be used on almost all surfaces except on flat latex wall paint and nonwaterproof ceiling tiles.

Using The Accessories
Stainless Steel Detail Brush:
The Stainless Steel Detail Brush should only be used on surfaces that are
scratch resistant. Stainless steel is extremely hard and will scratch most
surfaces. This brush can be used on surfaces such as masonry, certain tiles
such as Quarry Tile, and high quality stainless steel. This brush can also be
used to remove some painted surfaces if that surface will under go a sanding
process prior to being repainted. If you are in doubt about using this brush,
test the surface in a corner or out of the way location. This brush will also
leave a black mark, which is difficult to remove, on certain types of tile.
Brass Detail Brush:
The Brass Detail brush can be used on many metal surfaces as well as on
some tile. Always test this brush in a corner or out of the way location prior to
use. The Brass Detail Brush is made of softer metal than the Stainless Steel
Detail Brush and will consequently wear faster. The Brass Detail works well
on oxidized aluminum surfaces, it will however, have a polishing effect and
make the surface look brighter than areas of similar material that have not
been cleaned with this tool.
50 MM Brush:
The 50 MM brush is available in both Nylon and Stainless Steel. The nylon
comes as standard equipment with your VaporLux. Use this brush in the
same manner as described in the sections: Nylon Detail Brush and Stainless
Steel Detail Brush.
To secure any of the above described brushes to the detail tool simply screw
the brush onto the threaded end of the Detail Tool. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.
When using the Detail Tool adjust the vapor volume to 1/4 turn or less. The
heat does the cleaning, not pressure.
For best results with the Detail Tool gently rub the surface with the tool,
heating the surface first. Make a second pass, after the surface is heated
and dirt and debris will be completely removed. Once the surface is clean,
wipe excess with a clean, dry, absorbent cloth.
Use the Detail Tool to clean corners and hard to reach areas first and then
follow up with the appropriate larger brush.

Using The Accessories
Handle Extensions:
The Handle Extensions are used in conjunction with the other tools to make vapor
cleaning a stand up operation or to enable you to reach areas that would not be
possible otherwise.
To insert a tool into the Handle Extensions, hold the Extension with the white nut up.
Rotate the white nut clockwise until it stops, insert the tool into the white end (some
pressure may be required). When the tool is fully inserted, twist the white nut all the
way to the left. This will lock the tool in place. Repeat this process with both Handle
Extensions.
Condenser Tool:
The Condenser Tool is used to clean condensers, radiators and other items in which
a brush is not appropriate. The Condenser Tool is merely attached to the hose, held
closely to the object to be cleaned and sprayed with vapor. The Condenser Tool is
not a standard accessory.
Water Fill Bottle:
A Water Fill Bottle is supplied with some VaporLux models. To use this bottle,
unscrew the black top, fill the bottle with water. Insert the end of the bottle into the
water fill hole (refer to your model for location) and push down. Water will flow from
the bottle into the boiler.
Instructional Video:
An Instructional Video is supplied with your VaporLux. It is a CD and can be viewed
on most computers or other aplliances capable of playing a Compact Disc. Please
review this CD in addition to this manual.
Extension Cord:
A heavy duty (15 amp) Extension Cord is supplied with your unit. The Extension
Cord has a lighted end. After you plug the cord into a properly grounded 120-V
outlet, make sure the female end of the cord is lit. If it is not lit, check your power
source, the outlet is not operational. Always use the Vaporlux extension cord when
the use of an extension cord is required. FAILURE TO USE A HEAVY ENOUGH
EXTENSION CORD CAN SEVERLY DAMAGE YOUR VAPORLUX AND DRAMATICALLY EFFECT ITS OPERATION.

Trouble Shooting
A. Unit Does Not Heat Up
1. Make sure unit is plugged in.
2. Make sure power switch is on - switch will emit dim red light when
on. refer to model for location.
3. Check the power source - make sure outlet has power.
4. Is the red (low water) light on? - press reset button - refer to model
for location.
5. Is electrical cord damaged? - if so - call dealer
6. If all previous items are ok - call dealer
B. Steam does not come out
1. Does pressure gauge indicate pressure in boiler? refer to previous
section.
2. Is the vapor switch turned on? Refer to model for location.
3. Is hose connected properly? Maked sure mono block is locked.
4. Is the vapor volume knob on? Refer to model for location
5. When hose button is depressed does the unit make a clicking sound?
If not call your dealer. If unit clicks, either volume knob is off or
particles are lodged in the solenoid valve. Call your dealer
C. Unit does not hold pressure
1. Volume knob is set too high. Turn the knob toward the minus sign.
2. If this does not remedy problem, call your dealer.
D. Green light does not go on
1. Refer to problem A.
2. If unit heats and green light still does not go on, call your dealer
E. Red (low water) light does not go on
1. Boiler has water in it.
2. If boiler is empty, turn off immediatly and call your dealer
F. Vapor comes out of the cap
1. Cap is being over tightened. Replace cap “O” Ring. A replacement
“O” Ring is attached to the handle of your machine.
2. If pressure gauge exceeds 80 PSI call your dealer, do not operate the
equipment.
