For all models that presently have a rear sway bar
1 Raise the car in the rear and place the axle firmly on jack stands. Remove the rear wheels.
!
2 Remove lower shock bolt (if you have gas pressurized shocks they will extend down through the trailing arm). Remove the rear nut holding the bar to the trailing arm.
3 Pull down to remove the old sway bar. If your model has the exhaust going under the axle, it will help to remove the rear muffler hangers and let the exhaust hang down in the rear.

1978-1993 Exhaust goes under the axle
1975-1978 Exhaust goes over the axle
For all models that presently DO NOT have a rear sway bar
Usually wagons 1975-1978 didn't come with a rear sway bar.
1 Raise the car in the rear and place the axle firmly on jack stands. You'll need to support both the trailing arm and the axle separately.
2 Remove the lower shock bolt.
3 Remove the bolt holding the axle to the trailing arm, on one side. NOTE: it is helpful to have a jack under the axle to be able to move it up and down to align the holes for replacing the bolt. Place the provided bracket under the bolt head and reinstall as shown. Repeat on the other side of the axle.
4 Position the sway bar between the rear trailing arms. It's usually easiest to install the front bolts first, and then install the rear bolts. Which ever you do, just start the nuts on the bolts until all four bolts are in position and started.
