SPECIFICATIONS FOR A REVERSIBLE
TAILGATE SPREADER
TYPE: Shall be a dump body mounted cross conveyor with capability to run in either
direction to unload controlled amounts of material from a moving truck. Conveyor shall
be self-leveling with hydraulic drive. Gates at the end of the conveyor shall be
adjustable to control the discharge rate. Discharge rate will also be controlled by a
variable speed control on the drive motor. Machine can be equipped with a spinner
mechanism to permit spreading of ice control materials when needed. Unit will be 102"
wide with adjustable mounting hardware to accommodate dump bodies with outside
from 94" to 96" wide.
Machine will be equipped with an 18" wide belt riveted to 1/4" x 1" cross bars for
positive movement of materials. Belt to be heat and oil resistant with a temperature
range of -10 degrees F to 350 degrees F. Bottom panel will be 7 gauge mild steel for
continuous support of the chain assembly. Positive sprocket drive assures continuous
material flow under varying loads. Conveyor frame will be 7-gauge mild steel welded to
form a durable container for material to be spread and support for all moving parts. Antiflow components will be provided for installation in the dump box to prevent spilling of
material around the tailgate and from an open metering gate when conveyor is not in
use. Both endgates shall be equipped with hinges and a frame to swing free for
maximum discharge rates.

ICE CONTROL OPTION: A spinner assembly shall be provided to distribute ice
control abrasives and granular de-icing materials. Spinner shall rigidly attach to
the end of the conveyor trough and be driven through a chain and sprocket
system by a high torque, low speed orbit motor. Spinner will be 18" diameter with
(6) six welded-on, bolt-on hardened, formed, (10) ten gauge fins. Spinner
assembly shall not extend more than 6" beyond the end of the conveyor trough.
Spinner speed shall be variable to permit spreading on roadways of various
widths A baffle will be provided to control material distribution.

CONTROLS: Shall be for cab installation. Control valve to be pressure
compensated, having independent variable speed control for conveyor and
spinner, a master "off-on" control, and built-in pressure relief valve set at 1500
PSI.
(3)
HYDRAULIC PUMP: Shall be of the gear-type thru-shaft design, having a
minimum capacity of 25 GPM at maximum operating conditions. All necessary
mounting components to be included to install to transmission P.T.O.

HYDRAULIC HOSE: All fittings and hose required to make complete installation
shall be furnished, including three- (3) no-drip type, quick-disconnect couplers.
All pressure fittings and hose to have a minimum rating of 2000 PSI in
accordance with S.A. E. standards.

HYDRAULIC RESERVOIR & FILTER: Minimum capacity of 12 gallons with
breather-type filler cap and replaceable 10 micron spin-on type hydraulic filter
with condition indicator.
(6)
HYDRAULIC QUICK DISCONNECT COUPLERS: As required for system
specified above. Must be an Aero-quip FDA5 or equal.

PAINT: Prior to the assembly of the unit, all components are to be individually
cleaned with an iron phosphate treatment. Upon completion of the cleaning
process, exposed hopper seams not welded are to be sealed. All components
are then prime painted. Next, the plural-component urethane finish coat is to be
applied in Hi-Way Yellow on main hopper components and in Hi-Way Black on
bolt-on components. Finally, all components and hopper are to be oven cured
and then completely assembled.

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL: Manual is to be furnished with
each unit covering operation, maintenance and parts listing for the unit.
(9)
OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE SAFETY MANUAL: To promote safe
operation and maintenance procedures.
