Power for all cameras
Run-time indication
PAGlink has been designed to power a wide range of professional
cameras and equipment used by broadcast television stations,
hire facilities and production companies, such as: standard or highdefinition shoulder-mounted cameras, high-end 4K digital cinema
and 3D camera set-ups, DSLR cameras and handheld camcorders.
All PAGlink batteries feature builtin run-time indication. You can
choose between the easy-to-read
numeric display of the PL96T Time
Battery or the 5 LED indicator of the lower-cost e-series PL96e
battery. Both show battery capacity as a percentage. When batteries
are linked, the display provides run-time for the total of all the
batteries, and capacity for the individual packs. The different
battery versions can be mixed, enabling you to add the numeric
Time Battery display to the lower-cost e-series batteries.
Link multiples of batteries
PAGlink is a system of smarter, smaller
and lighter Li-Ion batteries. It is the
only system that allows you to link
multiples of batteries in parallel for
charge or discharge. Linking the
batteries combines capacities, greatly
extending run-time and allowing a highcurrent draw of up to 12A. PAGlink
batteries incorporate heavy duty
contacts, engineered for high-load applications. Two or more
batteries can be linked on your camera. Three linked batteries,
weighing less than 2.2kg, create a single power source of nearly 288
watt-hours. The individual battery units have capacities of 96 watthours, enabling them to be legally transported by passenger aircraft
without quantity restriction.
More outputs for accessories
PAGlink is the first battery system where
power is also available from the battery
linking contacts. The power can be accessed
via the PAGlink PowerHub, and used for
audio, lighting, monitoring and transmission
accessories. The PowerHub can be situated
between two PAGlink batteries, to preserve the
hot-swap capability, or connected to the rear
battery on the camera, to allow the mounting of an accessory
bracket. It provides up to four 12V DC outputs via D-Tap connectors
(Hirose and 2.1mm PP90 DC connector units are also available).
The plug-in connectors allow you to reposition the output to the left
or right side of the camera. A USB module is incorporated for
charging your smartphone.

protection system and have Parylene coated internal circuits to
guard against the effects of electrolyte leakage (see Page 11).
Air transport
The PAGlink system has been conceived so that
you can fly with the high-capacity battery
power that you need. The 96 watt-hour PAGlink
battery packs have been independently tested in
accordance with UN air transport safety
regulations. This means that unlike batteries
that have capacities greater than 100 watt-hours, and those that
have not been tested, PAGlink batteries can be legally transported
on passenger aircraft, without quantity restriction.

A Truly Intelligent Digital Battery System
When linked, PAGlink batteries form a high-speed network, allowing the

Linked batteries report to the camera or charger as one large battery.

PAGlink batteries are designed for powering
simultaneously a camera and multiple
accessories. Linked batteries provide up to
12A for power-hungry set-ups. PAGlink is the
first battery system that makes power available from the battery linking contacts. The
low-profile, lightweight PAGlink PowerHub,
sandwiched between two batteries, provides

Fast, efficient, linked battery charging
The unique PAGlink system allows up to eight batteries to be linked
and charged as one. The PAGlink PL16 two-position charger is capable
of simultaneously charging up to 16 PAGlink batteries (8 on each
position). At the end of a shoot, simply link the discharged batteries,
and connect them to the charger. By the morning, all your batteries
will be charged and ready to use.
The batteries form a high-speed network, communicating with each
other to manage the charging process, which is fully automatic.
The charger uses the available power efficiently and intelligently to
achieve fully charged batteries as quickly and safely as possible.
• The most-discharged batteries are given priority.
• Batteries can be in any state of charge (non-PAGlink chargers
require all linked batteries to be within 40% state-of-charge).
• Fully charged batteries will stop accepting charge automatically and
independently of other batteries.
• During charging, the charge status of each PAGlink battery
is shown on its own display, so that you can see at a

Batteries
Technologically Advanced
PAG batteries are the most technologically advanced in the industry.
They incorporate many unique proprietary features designed to
assist the cameraman and prolong battery life. They are
manufactured to withstand the strains and stresses of use in the
harshest environments, and to perform consistently over their
natural lifetime. PAG uses only the highest quality components in
the construction of its batteries. Safety, reliability, and durability
are the prime concerns, from conception to final assembly.
Compatibility
PAG has always embraced universality. It is the only manufacturer
that offers products that are compatible with four popular battery
mounting systems: V-Mount, PAGlok, Gold Mount and NP1. PAG also
offers mount adaptors that enable you to convert systems.
PAG’s cell testing programs continuously assess all relevant cells
from reputable manufacturers and the company selects the best
using a number of criteria, including headline capacity, cycle life,
voltage hold-up under load, and most importantly, safety. However,
safety and reliability are not merely determined by the choice of cell
- it is the total battery design philosophy that is most
important.
No Cell-Imbalance
The Li-Ion cells are matched to extremely close tolerances so that
the battery pack is perfectly balanced. Severely imbalanced
batteries can leak electrolyte and Li-Ion cells cannot be rebalanced
after assembly. The low-resistance inter-cell nickel strapping and
cell layout are constructed to optimize current sharing, reducing
one of the common causes of cell-imbalance, and shorter battery
life.
Why Li-Ion?
Modern cameras and working conditions require lightweight, reliable
batteries, with extended run-times, longer cycle lives and accurate
run-time information. PAG Li-Ion batteries are designed to meet
these requirements. They utilise advanced, high quality Li-Ion cell
technology that possesses a high energy density, making it
particularly well suited to powering a wide range of modern cameras.
Two 96 watt-hour PAG Li-Ion batteries will provide enough power for
a day’s shooting for most broadcast camera set-ups that include an
on-board light. PAG Li-Ion batteries are the most compact examples
available and can be transported easily in your camera bag.
PAGlink Li-Ion batteries can be linked to provide a higher current
draw (up to 12A), which is often required for powering highdefinition cameras and multiple camera accessories.
One of the benefits of Li-Ion technology is the low self-discharge
rate. This means that batteries do not have to be topped-up if they
have not been used for a few days. There is also no ‘memory effect’
as Li-Ion batteries do not suffer long term problems as a result of
partial charging and discharging.
Latest Cell-Technology
PAG uses only the latest, premium quality, branded Li-Ion cells in
its products. High quality cells are a vital prerequisite to the
creation of a safe Li-Ion battery. Low quality cells, which have crept
into our industry, are susceptible to internal shorts. The name ‘PAG’
on a battery is an assurance that only the highest quality materials
have been used in its construction.
PAG is Synonymous with Safety
PAG invests a great deal of time and money designing and
manufacturing safe battery systems which meet very stringent
technical requirements.
PAG ensures that the battery is allowed to operate only within strict
limits. PAG could allow higher charging voltages, and lower
discharge voltages, which would create a battery with a slightly
higher capacity. PAG could also allow a higher current to be drawn,
however, the result would be reduced battery life and an increased
chance of electrolyte leakage. Accordingly, the battery’s internal
protection circuits and the sophisticated protection software have

PAG’s electronic protection system guards against: over-voltage,
under-voltage, over-current, over-charge, over-discharge, overtemperature, under-temperature and inappropriate charge sources.
The protection circuits are fast-acting, and able to withstand highvoltage transients and reverse voltages.
Multiple levels of safety, backed-up with proven software driven
mechanisms, are included so that safe operation is not totally
dependent upon the continual operation of a single protection
circuit. The circuit boards within the battery are designed so that
all points of high voltage are separated by the maximum possible
isolation gap, thereby negating the chances of a problem even if
electrolyte were to leak across the board.

In long-term tests, Parylene was the only circuit coating material
which was not softened and eventually penetrated by the cell
electrolyte. This expensive, but essential process is unique to PAG
batteries and effectively guarantees that there will not be a fire in
the event of electrolyte leakage.
Polycarbonate Cases
The mechanical design of the battery provides protection in the
event of accident or abuse, cradling the cells against damaging shock
and vibration. PAG battery cases are manufactured from high-impact,
injection-moulded polycarbonate. The material is inherently very
strong (it is used for motorcycle crash helmets) and is unaffected by
the solvent powers of the battery electrolyte. Commonly used
materials, such as ABS, are dissolved and weakened by the
electrolyte. PAG cases also feature non-slip external features for
secure handling.
The PAGlink Battery Reader is a compact and lightweight tool that

the changes of load that occur during use, the charge status and

Air Transportation

PAG is the pioneer of microcomputer-controlled fast-charging for
broadcast industry batteries. PAG chargers are the most versatile and
technologically advanced systems available; they are easy to operate
and the latest models are fully automatic. The proprietary software
that controls charging extends the working life of your batteries
beyond anything that can be achieved using other systems.

A Variety of Features
The features of each PAG charger can vary to include either 2 or 4

Linked Battery Charging - An Industry First
The latest technological advancement from PAG is linked battery
charging (see pages 9 & 10). PAGlink batteries can be charged,
whilst linked, from any state of charge, using PAGlink chargers.
Up to 8 batteries on each position can be charged simultaneously
using a single charger. The batteries form a network that manages
the charging process.
Li-Ion Recovery: PAG chargers will automatically recover PAG Li-Ion
batteries if the output has been shut down by the battery’s internal
protection circuit.
Discharge/Charge: Batteries which have been repeatedly subjected
to partial discharging will benefit from the analytic Discharge/Charge
program which also measures and displays available battery capacity.
PAG Intelligent Parallel Charging
PAG’s latest chargers incorporate unique Intelligent Parallel Charging
software (iPC), designed for fast-charging simultaneously PAG and
Sony Li-Ion batteries. The program prepares batteries which are shut
down or deeply discharged for charge acceptance. Then it determines
the type and state of charge of the batteries, and the maximum current
that can be applied. Finally, it shares the current intelligently between
the channels, briefly addressing the most discharged batteries first,
before simultaneously fully charging all batteries as quickly and
efficiently as possible.
PAG ACS Advanced Charging System
PAG ACS is a sequential Advanced Charging System suitable for fastcharging PAG Li-Ion batteries as well as Ni-MH and Ni-Cd batteries of
any reputable manufacturer. PAG ACS chargers are intelligent, requiring
only the positive and negative connections to analyse the battery and
apply and monitor the charging process.
Fast-Charge Termination
To perform properly, batteries must be charged by exactly the right
amount. Undercharging gives less than full capacity and a shorter
run-time, whereas overcharging can permanently damage the battery.
To ensure that the fast-charge current is stopped at the correct time,
and in order to detect the many varied problems associated with faulty
batteries, the PAG ACS microcomputer uses a combination of several
cut-off algorithms. The software developed to do this is the most
powerful and complex part of the PAG ACS charger.
Automatic Charge-Rate Selection
PAG has incorporated further revolutionary software in its chargers to
recognise and deal with the wide variety of batteries that are available
to the camera operator. The charger initially analyses the battery in
Recovery Charge: The Recovery Charge Program can be used to
regain battery capacity lost as a result of extended storage or
operation under adverse conditions.
AC Camera Power: Certain chargers incorporate a built-in Camera
Power Supply suitable for powering most professional broadcast
cameras from an AC supply. Separate Camera Power Adaptors are
available for use with Cube chargers.
Information Displays: Large backlit LCD displays indicate the status
of the battery and the charger, providing charge loaded and battery
voltage information.
Charge a Greater Variety Of Batteries
The latest PAGlink (V-Mount) and PAG Cube (V-Mount & PAGlok)
chargers will fast-charge simultaneously PAG and Sony Li-Ion
batteries, as well as charging sequentially Ni-MH batteries of any

Discharge/Charge Program
This feature provides the easiest and most efficient way of
managing batteries that vary in terms of cell chemistry, voltage
and capacity. The program detects the battery’s cell chemistry,
state-of-charge, capacity and condition, and then applies the
correct regime to achieve a fully charged battery with the
maximum capacity and cycle life. The charge rate can also be
manually set at 2A, 3A or 4A.
Four-channel models feature PAG’s analytic Charge/Discharge program,
which ‘repairs’ batteries that have been repeatedly subjected to partial
discharging. The program measures and displays battery capacity.
High Build Standard
PAG universal chargers are designed to high electrical standards, with
RFI certification, and are suitable for use in all broadcast environments.

The 30V AR Series of microcomputercontrolled fast-chargers operates under
the control of PAG ACS, the world’s most
advanced charging system. The foremost
achievement of PAG ACS is the ability to
fast-charge, accurately and safely, Ni-Cd
and Ni-MH batteries of any manufacture.
PAG ACS does not require sensors within
the battery pack, the two charging wires
carry all the feedback information
necessary for accurate charge termination.
PAG ACS is so accurate that it extends the
working life of a battery beyond anything
that can be achieved using other systems.
The Autoranging (AR) facility adapts the
charge program to sequentially fast-charge
batteries within the ranges 12V to 31.2V,
1.7Ah to 10Ah. However, 30V AR Series
chargers are optimised to fast-charge 24V to
30V battery packs or belts, via front XLR4
connectors. A 30V 7Ah Pagbelt or Powerman
will be fast-charged in less than two hours.
This feature monitors the battery after
the main charge program and automatically maintains it in a state of full
charge until the battery is removed from
the charger.
Recovery Charge
The Recovery Charge program can be activated
to regain capacity which has been lost as a
result of extended storage or use under adverse
conditions.

Smaller lights for smaller cameras
The Standard 12V Paglight was the first on-board camera light
designed specifically to meet the requirements of the broadcast
industry. PAG now offers a family of lights, designed to fulfil a variety
of professional requirements, but sharing many of the unique features
that made Paglight the industry standard.
The Mini Paglight was introduced to suit the dimensions of the
smaller, digital camcorders. This miniaturised version of the 12V
Paglight can be powered from a range of 12V to 14.8V battery packs
and belts. The plug-in PowerArc option makes the Mini Paglight the
industry’s most compact yet powerful HMI/arc light. A Softstart lamp
holder is also available for use with Li-Ion batteries. The Mini Paglight
can be mounted to the camera using a variety of detachable power
bases.
Halogen, HMI and LED
Paglights are robust, light-in-weight, cool-running and fullyfocusable. Their versatility has been achieved as a result of PAG’s
patented plug-in lamp holder feature. This is best illustrated in the
Standard 12V Paglight which is capable of tungsten halogen output,
metal-halide arc and LED.
LED Technology has gradually improved, addressing the problems
that early examples displayed, such as poor spectral distribution and
colour temperature. Using improved LED technology, PAG offers a
plug-in LED option for the Paglight, to further increase its versatility
and provide you with the most economical LED solution.
Plug-in lamp holder options for this light also include Softstart,
for use with Li-Ion batteries, and the power saving, regulated
PowerMax unit, which incorporates a dimming facility called VariLux.
For users of small, handheld camcorders, whether professional or
consumer, the Paglight C6 Kit is an ideal solution. This high-quality
6V system provides everything you need: Paglight, diffuser, dichroic,
barn doors, battery and charger at a price to suit any equipment
budget .

Halogen Light Source
The Paglight is supplied with a standard

The multi-function PAG CPS100 is a 100W AC adaptor. It can be mounted to the rear of
the camera, via the battery connector (V-Mount and PAGlok models are available).
Alternatively it can be used off-camera.
The PAG CPS100 can be used to power the most demanding digital cinema cameras, or
HD broadcast camera set-ups that include picture monitoring, audio or lighting
accessories. A parallel XLR4 output is included for powering camera accessories. Twin
USB connectors are incorporated that output 5V, ideal for charging a smartphone
battery.
The CPS100 has a constant output of 100W and a peak output of 150W. It can be
powered from any AC supply worldwide.
Thermal protection is included and the unit will automatically restart after cooling.

PAG has developed a series of products that
enable you to power 7.2V camcorders/DSLRs
using broadcast batteries or battery belts. The
products comprise battery mounts, that can
be used off-camera (on your trouser belt,

There are three types of PAG DC Adaptor

Transport of Lithium-Ion Batteries
UN TESTING
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) in association with
the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the United
Nations (UN) set clearly defined rules regarding the transport of
Li-Ion batteries.
The IATA Lithium-Ion Battery Guidance Document (2013) requires the
independent testing of each type of Li-Ion battery, not just the
individual cells, to ensure that the design and construction are
compliant with the stringent regulations. This is a costly process for
the manufacturer, but it should assure you, the customer, that the
battery design is safe and of the highest possible professional
standard.
• Li-Ion batteries that have capacities greater than 160Wh cannot
be taken as hand luggage or checked-in under any circumstances.
PAG recommends that customers also confirm with their carrier of
choice, to determine any local rules and policies, before travelling.
Your PAG Li-Ion batteries are fully protected against short-circuit and
over-current. However, it is recommended that you make sure they are
obviously safe and inspire confidence in the airport check-in staff:
• Put tape over the contacts.
• Place each battery in a plastic bag.
PAG Li-Ion batteries have been tested and certified to comply with
United Nations Specification ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev 4. Copies of the
test reports can be obtained from PAG Ltd.
• Pack batteries in your hand-luggage in a safe and secure manner.
TRANSPORT REGULATIONS
We advise that you carry a copy of the PAG Air Transport Certificate
supplied with each PAG Li-Ion battery, or download a copy from the
PAG website:
The IATA regulations also affect individuals carrying Li-Ion batteries
on-board civil aircraft, and influence the way they are classified,
labelled and packed when transported as air cargo or by road freight.
Restrictions are imposed on batteries that have capacities greater
than 100Wh.
PAG Ltd. hereby declares that its PL96 and L96 Lithium-Ion
batteries have a watt-hour rating of less than 100 watt-hours.
This rating is in compliance with Section 2.3.5.9 of the IATA
Lithium-Ion Battery Guidance Document (2013).
The following information will assist you when travelling with or
shipping Li-Ion batteries:
Transport by Commercial Airline / Personal Luggage
• Check-in of Li-Ion batteries is not allowed unless the battery is
attached to the camera or the equipment it powers.
• An individual may take on-board, in hand luggage, an unlimited
number of Li-Ion batteries that have capacities of 100Wh or less.
• Li-Ion batteries that have capacities greater than 100Wh, but less
than 160Wh, are restricted to 2 items per person, in hand-luggage.

Transport by Air Freight and Road Freight
• Li-Ion batteries that have capacities of 100Wh or less can be
shipped by air or road, without restriction, as long as they
comply with Packing Instruction 965.
• Li-Ion batteries over 100Wh, when shipped by road or air, are
classified as dangerous goods and subject to special packaging
certification and approval from external specialists.
The correct forms and packaging labels for shipping PAG Li-Ion
batteries can be obtained from PAG Ltd. or downloaded from the
PAG website.

PAG guarantees each product for a period of 18 months, unless
otherwise stated.
PAGlink, PAG L96T Time Batteries, PAG L96e Batteries, PAG Chargers

Recelling
PAG batteries should only be recelled by PAG. A cell replacement
by a company other than PAG degrades the build standard of the
product and leaves you with a battery of dubious quality, and a
potential safety concern. As an alternative to recelling your battery,
PAG offers UK customers a 25% discount on the price of a new
battery of equivalent or greater specification, including a full
warranty.
Recycling
PAG provides a recycling service for all of its expired batteries.
Simply return your batteries by prior arrangement to your PAG
Agent, or to PAG Ltd. London. This ensures that the materials
involved in their manufacture are recovered for future use, where
possible, or disposed of in accordance with the appropriate
legislation.
