System Description
Module Overview
WAGO SPEEDWAY 767 is a modular, IP67-rated I/O system.
SPEEDWAY connects to a fieldbus and on to higher-level control
systems via fieldbus coupler or programmable fieldbus coupler
(featuring 8 digital inputs each).

The fieldbus coupler features an instantly recognizable system
interface that streamlines the connection of I/O modules.
The modules provide system expansion for both digital and analog
signal processing. This allows signals to be received and transmitted directly on the machine, as based on customer requirements.
The I/O modules are connected to the fieldbus coupler via data
line (yellow) and supply line (gray).
Configuration, programming, servicing and diagnostics can be performed using either the coupler‘s USB port or the fieldbus interface.

PLC Properties
PLCs (controllers and IPCs) that are programmable to IEC 61131-3 are suitable for various tasks.
They can control a diverse array of applications via WAGO‘s extensive portfolio of I/O modules,
multitasking and generous memory. Speed, robust memory, interfaces and communication services make it possible for controls to capitalize on the networking flexibility found in IT standards.
Special protocols can be implemented as function blocks in the PLCs. The programming environment allows program changes online, status monitoring, break points and other diagnostic tools.
Web Visualization
Web visualization is a specific form for visualization created in WAGO-I/O-PRO. WAGO-I/OPRO can process the visualization objects of a project, so they can be loaded in XML format
when downloading to an ETHERNET controller (XML description). A Web server also processes
the control data XML format and makes the constantly updated visualization available. As a
result, it can be accessed and displayed in a Web browser on any other computer connected to
the Internet (e.g., remote maintenance).

ETHERNET/IP adapts the proven Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) to standard
ETHERNET architecture. CIP includes an
extensive library of messages and services
for a multitude of automation processes
including control, security, safety (CIP
safety), synchronization, drive control and
information.
With appropriate project planning of the
“network scanner” (master) and the selection of suitable switches, excellent system
performance can be achieved.
Configuration data, diagnostics, and system information are transmitted via TCP/
IP-based “explicit messages.” Here, there
is a distinction between “unconnected
messaging” (irregular, low priority) and
“connected messaging” (regular, higher
priority) with reserved bandwidth. Regardless of message type, coexistence with
any ETHERNET protocols is guaranteed.

All 750/753 and 767 Series ETHERNET/IP fieldbus couplers and controllers support real-time communication per Common Industrial Protocol
(CIP).
In addition, the devices offer MODBUS/TCP and UDP protocol support
(server and client*), e.g., for direct cross-data communication with one
another and/or for the incorporation of control panels and PC applications.
Browser-based start-up can occur via Web-Based Management (optional). The Web server also offers user-specific visualization possibilities.

PROFINET IO
PROFINET IO unites the advantages of
the classic PROFIBUS DP with the benefits
of ETHERNET-based communication. Both
standard network topologies and infrastructure components can be used.
This allows PROFINET IO to offer a continuous solution, from the field level to the
control level.
For the parameterization of complex field
subscribers (PROFINET devices), such as
safety components, there are high-per-
formance services available that coexist
with Web services, as well as IT service
and management protocols (TCP/IP, http,
SNMP). To fulfill real-time requirements
and telegram prioritization, the optimized
PROFINET RT protocol has been expanded to include features such as “quality of
service.”
The PROFINET controller (master) thus
ensures regulated, sequential “request/
response” traffic, with cycle times that can
be set individually per subscriber.

PROFINET IO Controller
Characteristics and Use: WAGO PROFINET IO Fieldbus Couplers
WAGO‘s 750 and 767 Series Fieldbus Couplers integrate WAGO‘s entire portfolio of I/O
modules into PROFINET as I/O devices. Configuration (via GSDML files), as well as operation
and diagnostics, can occur completely via the master interface‘s standardized tools.
The master writes configuration and parameter data permanently into the coupler, permitting
hardware exchange without intervention in the software.
Fail-safe I/O modules (750, 753 Series) enable applications up to SIL3 according to the
PROFIsafe V2.0 specification.
The configuration of placeholder modules, and the start-up of hardware configuration that
deviates from the project planning, is provided for all couplers. Standard-compliant diagnostics
provides detailed information about the coupler and module status.
The error behavior of I/O modules can be individually parameterized in preparation for
communication failures. Integrated switches permit the implementation of a line topology.

SERCOS III
With SERCOS III, automation devices
such as controllers, servo drives and I/O
peripherals communicate via a uniform
real-time ETHERNET interface.
Transmitted data is based on a very efficient real-time protocol, which guarantees
the shortest cycle times and the greatest
repetition accuracy. The runtimes are
minimized thanks to the complete absence
of hubs and switches. Data is read/written
in defined blocks by the network subscribers (which are typically connected in a

redundant ring) “on the fly” during the
flow of the telegrams.
This enables direct cross-communication
within a cycle.
The redundant ring structure increases
system availability and enables “hot-plugging” of stations that can be identified directly by the network master based on the
uniform device model. The highly synchronous time slot process allows, in addition
to the real-time communication, acyclic
ETHERNET communication services.
SERCOS III adapts CIP safety for securityoriented applications up to SIL3.

EtherCAT®
EtherCAT® (Ethernet Control Automation
Technology) is a high-performance, realtime ETHERNET communication system
for industrial automation. The EtherCAT®
protocol allows data to be transported
directly within a standard ETHERNET
frame using its own Ethertype (0x88A4).
The data sequence is independent of the
physical order of the network subscribers
and can be addressed randomly.

In contrast to standard ETHERNET, the
EtherCAT® frames are processed by slaves
in the flow. The slaves can be read and
written in the same frame. The EtherCAT®
telegram structure is thus ideal for distributed I/O. Broadcast, multicast and crosscommunication are possible.
The complete protocol processing takes
place within the slave hardware and is
thus independent of the run-time of protocol stacks, CPU performance of the master
or software implementation. Bandwidth
utilization is maximized because each
subscriber/date does not always need its
own frame. The result is extremely short
cycle times of ≤ 100 μs.
EtherCAT® accommodates a wide variety
of topologies including line, tree, ring or
star without additional infrastructure devices. The XML interface (device description file) is easy to implement and simplifies
configuration.
Characteristics and Use: WAGO EtherCAT® Fieldbus Couplers
The 750-354 EtherCAT® Fieldbus Coupler boasts very powerful data transfer capability.
While the EtherCAT® telegram passes through the device, only the data is taken from
the telegram intended for the fieldbus coupler. The coupler, in turn, adds the required
process data. A special EtherCAT® communication unit, consisting of an EtherCAT® slave
controller (ESC), controls the entire process data exchange with the EtherCAT® master.
High transmission speed and data exchange reliability is provided by transferring lower
communication levels into hardware. Both mailbox, as well as cyclic and acyclic data,
can be transmitted and processed via CoE (CAN application layer over EtherCAT®).
Easy and time-saving commissioning of the fieldbus coupler is achieved via automatic
address assignments and ESI file integrated into the engineering tool of the EtherCAT®
master. Both line-in and line-out RJ-45 connectors are located on the front of the coupler,
providing easy configuration of line structures.
