Kinetic® DEGA-T4002
Purpose
The Kinetic DEGA-T4002 glass-mount aerial is designed for the mobile reception in vehicles of Digital Audio Broadcasts in Band III (174-224
MHz) and L-Band (1452-1492 MHz) by DAB / DAB+ / DMB-A receivers fitted with a SMB connector. It is unsuitable for any other purpose.
For information about which Bands are used in which country, see http://www.wohnort.org/dab.
When installed in accordance with the instructions the DEGA-T4002 will remain secure at speeds up to 160km/hr (100 mph) in still air.
Preparation
Before proceeding, please ensure that you have read and understood all the instructions and WARNINGS below. If you are in any doubt,
please consult your retailer or arrange professional installation.
Instructions
Some reception issues may only become apparent when the vehicle is in motion so it is recommend that before permanent installation, you
carefully road-test the aerial to your satisfaction by temporarily fixing it in place with heavy duty tape, such as duct or gaffa tape.
Remove the components from the packaging and identify (a) the external base/mast assembly (b) the internal base (c) the cable, if included
(d) the cleaning swabs and (e) the tube of silicon sealant.
Next, choose a location on the glass to mount the external base/rod assembly 1*. These positions MUST be avoided: (a) on double-glazed
and metallic glass, (b) closer than than 20mm to heated screen or other conductive elements (c) the printed, patterned edge of the screen
(d) the area swept by the wipers.
For best reception, select a position so that the aerial will be as high and as vertical as possible, well away from existing aerials, roof racks
etc.
Having selected a potential mounting site, insert the cable into the socket of the internal base and screw home, finger-tight. Check that
at the corresponding position on the inside of the screen there is space for the internal base WITH the attached cable. It is normal for the
cable to enter the base from the pillar side but reception will not be adversely affected whichever orientation of the socket is chosen. Check
also that the cable is long enough to reach from your chosen position to your DAB receiver.
2* If the glass is colder than 20° C, warm it gently but thoroughly with a hair dryer 3* or the car’s heater. Use the supplied swabs to ensure
that the selected location is spotlessly clean, dry, and free from grease etc. on both sides of the glass.
4* Peel the protective paper from the self-adhesive pad and hover the external aerial base over your chosen location, with the mast swivelled to the vertical position. When you are satisfied that it is correctly located, press firmly home. Then peel the protective paper from
the self-adhesive pad and hover the internal aerial base over the exactly corresponding position on the inside of the screen, remembering
to orientate the socket as required. When you are satisfied that it is accurately positioned, press firmly home.
Tuck the cable behind the windscreen pillar trim. Route the cable behind the trim and the dash to your DAB receiver observing in full the
warnings below. Do not coil any excess cable as this can affect the signal adversely. Push the SMB plug onto the receiver’s SMB DAB aerial
socket. (Please refer to your car’s or car radio’s instructions as to how to gain access to your receiver’s connections. If your radio has
switchable DAB aerial ‘phantom power’, ensure it’s switched ‘Off’)
Finally, to protect the external adhesive pad against rain, etc., remove the cap from the tube of silicon and, by pushing the nozzle around
the perimeter of the external base, squeeze a good bead of silicon into the gap between the aerial base and the windsceen. Once dry, any
excess silicon can be removed from the glass with a knife.
Allow 24 hours for the adhesive to reach maximum strength before driving the vehicle with the mast in place.
Normally, best reception of Band III broadcasts will be achieved by ensuring the mast is fully extended. If you wish experiment with shorter
lengths or for reception of L-Band broadcasts, always push the uppermost section in first. If necessary, to minimise wind noise, the mast
can be angled backwards by up to approx 15° C. with no significant reduction in performance (to set the mast angle, slacken the lock screw,
adjust as required, and re-tighten the lock screw).
Maintenance
Clean the aerial monthly with a very little WD40 or similar and check that neither the mast nor the external base has become loose. To
remove, warm the glass GRADUALLY to 40-50° C and cut/pry off VERY GENTLY with a sharp wood chisel 3*.
! WARNINGS !
1* THIS AERIAL IS UNSUITABLE FOR USE ON DOUBLE-GLAZED, HEATED AND METALLIZED GLASS. DO NOT INSTALL THE AERIAL
IN A MANNER THAT WOULD OBSTRUCT THE DRIVER’S VIEW OR ALLOW THE CABLE TO INTERFERE WITH THE SAFE OPERATION
OF THE VEHICLE CONTROLS OR THE VEHICLE SAFETY FUNCTIONS E.G. SEATBELTS AND AIRBAGS. DO NOT INSTALL ON THE
DRIVER’S SIDE OF THE WINDSCREEN.
2* THE AERIAL WILL BECOME DETACHED UNLESS THE GLASS SURFACE TO WHICH IT IS ATTACHED (a) IS FLAT OR ALMOST FLAT,
(b) IS SPOTLESSLY CLEAN AND DRY AND (c) IS AT A MINIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 20° C. AT TIME OF INSTALLATION AND FOR FIVE
MINUTES THEREAFTER.
3* SWITCH OFF ALL POWER BEFORE WORKING ON THE VEHICLE OR CONNECTING / DISCONNECTING ANY RADIO CABLES.
MAINS ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT USED OUTSIDE MUST NEVER BE USED IN THE WET AND MUST ALWAYS BE PROTECTED BY AN
RCD. ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION WHEN USING HAND TOOLS.
