Inspection of the Cylinder Head
Inspect as follows:
1. Inspect the cylinder head for cracks. Replace the cylinder head if needed.

3 Inspection of the Cylinder Head
NOTE: If the valve seat is damaged, replace the cylinder head.
2. Inspect the valves for damage. If damaged, replace the valve and inspect the valve seat.
3. Inspect the cylinder head for erosion on the fire deck, manifold mounting locations, and camshaft mounting surfaces.
Replace the cylinder head if needed.
4. Inspect the valve springs for damage. Replace the valve springs if needed.

5. Inspect all the threaded holes on the cylinder head. Repair as necessary.
6. Refer to tool letter 09TL-4Rev to pressure test the cylinder head.
7. For new cylinder heads only, inspect for flatness. Specifications are below.

Cleaning of the Cylinder Head
Clean as follows:
1. Steam clean the cylinder head.
2. Clean the head in a de-scaling bath.
WARNING: EYE INJURY
To avoid injury from flying debris when using compressed air, wear adequate eye protection (face
shield or safety goggles) and do not exceed 276 kPa (40 psi) air pressure.
3. Blow dry with compressed air.
