Two keys to outstanding photos and movies

You won’t see them but they are there: Sony’s 16.1 megapixel* Exmor ®

APS HD CMOS sensor and BIONZ ® image processing engine. This winning combination — the same as found in higher-grade DSLR cameras — delivers richly detailed images with smooth tonal gradations and vivid colors thanks to the large APS-C sensor. The high resolution gives you a great deal of freedom when cropping so you can create the most pleasing composition without sacrificing image quality.

Low-light capability for expanding photographic horizons

Thanks to a maximum sensitivity of ISO 16000, dimly lit scenes can be shot without flash, allowing you to capture the ambience of existing lighting. High sensitivity also lets you use fast shutter speeds to freeze action. What’s more, the Exmor-BIONZ duo keeps noise to a minimum when shooting at high ISO settings while area-specific noise reduction

— technology that controls the amount of noise reduction depending on which part of the image it is applied — maintains sharpness along edge lines and provides the optimal balance between acceptable levels of noise and resolution. For added convenience, NEX-3N can also automatically adjust sensitivity between ISO 200 and 3200.

Area-specific noise reduction

This intelligent technology — initially introduced on Sony Series cameras starting with 99 — adjusts the level of noise reduction for different areas of the image.

A fun camera made specially for you and yours.

Easy operability and handling ensure carefree shooting.

Beautifully composed self-portraits made easy

NEX-3N’s tiltable LCD screen flips up 180° to make shooting selfportraits a snap. Rather than shooting blind and hoping for the best, you can now carefully compose the perfect shot. Include other people, experiment with interesting angles or shoot against famous landmarks. When you press the shutter, the camera counts down for three seconds so you can put on your best smile.

Added controls — including a new zoom lever — for effortless one-handed operation

A handy new zoom lever allows smooth zooming* even when shooting self-portraits, bringing compact camera convenience to the realm of interchangeable-lens models. In addition, the right side of the control wheel can be used to adjust ISO or programmed as a Fn (Function) button. Together, these controls further enhance NEX-3N’s outstanding one-handed usability.

* Including optical zoom with Sony power zoom lenses.

Intelligently positioned zoom lever

Programmable control wheel

Newly designed anti-slip grip

No matter how you shoot, the new grip fits your hand perfectly. Whether taking self-portraits or casual snaps, the natural form ensures quick, comfortable handling and makes the camera so easy to carry around. In addition, the textured grip prevents slipping even when shooting onehanded or when using exceptionally large lenses.

Compact, easy-to-carry kit lens

SELP1650 is half the length of SEL1855.

For the ultimate in portability and compatibility with NEX-3N, try versatile SELP1650, the 16 to 50 mm zoom kit lens. Measuring just 29.9 mm (1.18”) — half the size of SEL1855 when fully retracted — the lens is ideal when travelling or anytime a compact, lightweight camera-lens combo is desired.

Precious moments you’ll cherish forever.

Produce stunning photos and movies that always impress.

Beautifully composed photos with new Auto Object Framing

Give your photos a professional look with Auto Object Framing.

This savvy function analyzes portraits, close-ups or images of moving subjects then crops them after you take the shot to produce photos with maximum appeal. Featuring advancements like exceptional two-person portrait capability along with Face

Detection and Tracking Focus, Auto Object Framing not only turns ordinary photos into stunning compositions but does so effortlessly, automatically recognizing the scene then cropping accordingly. And thanks to Sony’s By Pixel Super Resolution

Technology and high-resolution Exmor sensor, images can be radically cropped without marked loss of image quality.

Notes:

• Cropping results vary depending on shooting situations.

• The original image is saved along with the cropped version.

Built-in pop-up flash

for photos in any light

When you need a little extra burst of light, the built-in pop-up flash (GN6; ISO 200·m) does the trick. Combined with NEX-3N’s maximum sensitivity of ISO 16000, the flash ensures lovely photos in dimly lit interiors or at night. A variety of flash modes can be used to add appealing catch lights to portraits, brighten backlit subjects and convey the feeling of motion.

Note:

When using the included E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS (SELP1650) lens, illumination

from the built-in flash may be partially obstructed at wide-angle focal lengths.

NEX-3N’s responsive autofocus keeps subjects in sharp focus, allowing you to record even moving subjects and still be assured of excellent results. The built-in microphone delivers superior audio quality, and

Creative versatility for that ‘Wow’ look.

Take your photography to new heights of artistry.

Picture Effect — Your key to an exciting photographic adventure

Every image is a potential work of art with Picture Effect — in-camera control for turning mundane shots into little gems. NEX-3N includes 15 effects that can be applied to photos or movies, giving you the means to vastly expand your artistic repertoire. The ability to view effects in real-time on the LCD screen* before the shot lets you experiment with different looks until you are satisfied with the result.

Superior Auto mode — Serious point-and-shoot simplicity

Use Superior Auto mode to shoot photos and movies with the ease of a compact digital camera. In this mode, the camera recognizes the current shooting environment then adjusts settings for optimal results. The camera that gives you more.

Advanced features, a new level of ease, and loads of fun.

Added functionality for your shooting convenience

Soft Skin Effect

Soften skin and tame unsightly wrinkles and blemishes. The pros’ choice when shooting portraits to make people look their best.

Adjustable in three levels.

MF Assist

Improve manual focusing accuracy by magnifying the scene 4.8x or 9.6x on the

LCD screen. A must have when shooting macro shots or with the aperture wide open.

Peaking function

Quickly confirm focus in the composition. A highlight — adjustable over three settings each for sensitivity level and color — appears over areas that are focused.

On

Sweep Panorama

Off

USB charging

Capture a dramatic landscape or cityscape. Just swing the camera when shooting then play back on the LCD screen or wide-screen TV.

Connect NEX-3N to a PC or AC outlet via the bundled USB cable to charge the battery without removing it from the camera.

Face Detection / Smile Shutter

Set NEX-3N to recognize faces and smiles.

Face Detection locates up to eight faces in a composition then adjusts exposure, white balance and other settings based on these faces. Smile Shutter — adjustable in three levels — automatically takes a shot when smiles in the scene are at their brightest.

Anti Motion Blur / Hand-held Twilight modes (Scene Selection) Creative Style

Employing Sony image compositing technology, these two modes deliver superb photos with reduced noise and blur when shooting handheld in low-light environments. Anti Motion

Blur mode is especially useful for decreasing blur caused by camera shake and subject movement while Hand-held Twilight mode balances exposure between the main subject and background for pleasing nighttime photos.

Tailor the look of photos and movies before shooting. Choose from one of six settings —

Standard, Vivid, Portrait, Landscape, Sunset or Black & White — depending on the scene or your creative intent.

Auto HDR (High Dynamic Range) mode / D-range Optimizer (DRO)

Decrease contrast in scenes with extremely dark and light areas. Well suited for stationary subjects, Auto HDR mode combines three images — one each for highlights, mid-tones and shadows — to produce one photo that closely resembles the scene as you saw it. DRO takes only one shot, but can be used for lowering contrast in photos with moving subjects and when using continuous shooting.

12

Speed Priority Continuous mode

Freeze fast-moving subjects by shooting at up to 4 fps. This is the ideal solution for photographing sports, children at play or other action.

Clear Image Zoom

Clear Image Zoom Conventional digital zoom

50 mm 100 mm equivalent

If you can’t seem to get close enough to the subject, press the zoom lever to activate Clear Image Zoom. This extends the reach of a lens up to 2x without markedly degrading image quality. Clear Image

Zoom employs Sony’s By Pixel Super Resolution Technology to achieve amazingly sharp zoom shots without a telephoto lens. And by combining it with NEX-3N’s Digital Zoom and Smart Zoom*, you can increase magnification up to 8x over the lens’ maximum focal length. What’s more, Clear Image Zoom supports both photos and movies so you’ll always have plenty of reach for distant subjects.

* Smart Zoom does not support movies.

Lenses

Outstanding performance in a compact zoom lens

For shooting versatility, Sony’s E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS is hard to beat. Covering commonly used focal lengths from wide angle to medium telephoto, this lightweight lens partners perfectly with NEX-

3N. The lens retracts to 29.9 mm when not in use, and features seamless power zoom over the entire zoom range — from optical through digital — via a zoom lever.

Note: If using this lens with NEX-3, NEX-5 or NEX-C3, distortion, aberration and/or light falloff at the image periphery will occur at wide-angle focal lengths.
