Features and Design
This Multimedia Projector is designed with the most advanced technology for portability, durability, and ease of use. It uses built-in multimedia features, a palette of 1.07 billion colors, and matrix liquid crystal display (LCD) technology.

Short Throw & Wide-Range Zoom Lens
The 2x Short Throw & Wide-Range Zoom Lens is capable of throwing a 100” diagonal image from a distance of 9.8’ (3.0 m) to 20.0’ (6.1 m).
◆
Automatic Slide Shutter
The automatic slide shutter protects the lens from dust and scratches. It opens and closes automatically as you press the POWER ON/STAND-BY button.

Lens Shift
The Lens Shift function provides a greater installation flexibility. You can use the projector at desired places without images being distorted (see page 14).
◆
Color Management
The Color management function allows you to adjust the details of picture colors to suit your preference and viewing environments (see pages 32 – 33).

Auto Iris
The integration of the lamp aperture enhances the contrast and depth of the projected image.
◆
Compatibility
The projector accepts signals from multiple sources: computers, analog TV systems (PAL, SECAM, NTSC,
NTSC4.43, PAL-M, and PAL-N), component video, S-video,
RGB scart, and HDMI.

Wide Selection of Image Modes
You can select an ideal image mode for the viewing environment or for your desired picture quality (see page
27). The five different kinds of images of your choice can also be stored (see pages 28 – 33).

Power Management
The Power management function reduces power consumption and maintains the lamp life (see page 41).

Logo
The Logo function allows you to customize the screen logo
(see page 40). You can capture an image for the screen logo and use it for the starting-up display or between presentations.

The brightness of the projection lamp can be selected (see
pages 23, 29).

Simple Computer System Setting
The Multi-scan system of the projector conforms to almost all computer output signals quickly (see page 26).

16 : 9 Wide Screen
The wide LCD panels with 1920 x 1080 resolution (16:9 aspect ratio) can project the image from component video signals such as DVD players and HDTV devices in full screen.

Interlace-Progressive Conversion
High-quality picture technology is available that converts an interlaced signal into a progressively-scanned one (see

The projector has two HDMI (High Definition Multimedia

Before installing and operating the projector, read this manual thoroughly.
The projector provides many convenient features and functions. Operating the projector properly enables you to manage those features and maintains it in good condition for many years to come.
Improper operation may result in not only shortening the product life, but also malfunctions, fire hazard, or other accidents.
If your projector seems to operate improperly, read this manual again, check operations and cable connections and try the solutions in the “Troubleshooting” section in the back of this manual. If the problem still persists, contact the dealer where you purchased the projector or the service center.

– This projector produces intense light from the projection lens. Avoid staring directly into the lens as much as possible, otherwise eye damage could result. Be especially careful that children do not stare directly into the beam.
– Install the projector in a proper position. Otherwise it may result in fire hazard.
– Allowing the proper amount of space on the top, sides, and rear of the projector cabinet is critical for proper air circulation and cooling of the unit. The dimensions shown here indicate the minimum space required. If the projector is to be built into a compartment or similarly enclosed, these minimum distances must be maintained.
– To not cover the ventilation slot on the projector. Heat buildup can reduce the service life of your projector, and can also be dangerous.

– If the projector is unused for an extended time, unplug the projector from the power outlet.
– Do not project the same image for a long time. The afterimage may remain on the LCD panels by the characteristic of panel.

When hanging the projector from the ceiling, clean the air intake vents, air filters, and the top of the projector periodically with a vacuum cleaner. If you leave the projector unclean for a long time, the cooling fans can be clogged with dust, and it may cause a breakdown or a disaster.

Safety Instructions
All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the product is operated.
Read all of the instructions given here and retain them for later use. Unplug this projector from AC power supply before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the projector.
For added protection to the projector during lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet. This will prevent damage due to lightning and power line surges.
Do not expose this unit to rain or use near water... for example, in a wet basement, near a swimming pool, etc...
Do not use attachments not recommended by the manufacturer as they may cause hazards.
Do not place this projector on an unstable cart, stand, or table. The projector may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult, and serious damage to the projector. Use only with a cart or stand recommended by the manufacturer, or sold with the projector. Wall or shelf mounting should follow the manufacturer’s instructions, and should use a mounting kit approved by the manufacturers.
An appliance and cart combination should be moved with care. Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the appliance and cart combination to overturn.
Slots and openings in the back and bottom of the cabinet are provided for ventilation, to ensure reliable operation of the equipment and to protect it from overheating.
The openings should never be covered with cloth or other materials, and the bottom opening should not be blocked by placing the projector on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This projector should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register.
This projector should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase unless proper ventilation is provided.
Never push objects of any kind into this projector through cabinet slots as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock.
Never spill liquid of any kind on the projector.
Do not install the projector near the ventilation duct of airconditioning equipment.
This projector should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supplied, consult your authorized dealer or local power company.
Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can result in fire or electric shock. Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Do not locate this projector where the cord may be damaged by persons walking on it.
Do not attempt to service this projector yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
Unplug this projector from wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: a. When the power cord or plug is damaged or frayed.
b. If liquid has been spilled into the projector.
c. If the projector has been exposed to rain or water.
d. If the projector does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions as improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the projector to normal operation.
e. If the projector has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged.
f. When the projector exhibits a distinct change in performance, this indicates a need for service.
When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used replacement parts specified by the manufacturer that have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
Upon completion of any service or repairs to this projector, ask the service technician to perform routine safety checks to determine that the projector is in safe operating condition.

Safety Instructions
Air Circulation
Openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation. To ensure reliable operation of the product and to protect it from overheating, these openings must not be blocked or covered.
Installing the Projector in Proper Position
Install the projector properly. Improper installation may reduce the lamp life and cause fire hazard.

Do not tilt the projector more than 20 degrees from side to side.

CAUTION
Hot air is exhausted from the exhaust vent. When using or installing the projector, the following precautions should be taken.
– Do not put any flammable objects or spray can near the projector. Hot air is exhausted from the ventilation holes.
– Keep the exhaust vent at least 3’ (1 m) away from any objects.
– Do not touch a peripheral part of the exhaust vent, especially screws and metallic part. This area will become hot while the projector is being used.
– Do not put anything on the projector. Objects put on the cabinet will not only get damaged but also cause fire hazard by heat.
Cooling fans are provided to cool down the projector.
The fan’s running speed is changed according to the temperature inside the projector.

CAUTION

Moving the Projector
When moving the projector, make sure that the automatic slide shutter is closed, retract the adjustable feet, and lock the lens with the Lens Shift Lock to prevent damage to the lens and cabinet.
When the projector is unused for an extended period, put it into a suitable case.
Care must be taken when handling the projector; do not drop, bump, subject it to strong forces, or put other things on the cabinet.
CAUTION ON CEILING MOUNTING
For ceiling mounting, you need the ceiling mount kit designed for this projector. When not mounted properly, the projector may fall, causing hazards or injury. For details, consult your dealer. The warranty on this projector does not cover any damage caused by use of any nonrecommended ceiling mount kit or installation of the ceiling mount kit in an improper location.
CAUTION IN CARRyING OR
TRANSPORTING THE PROjECTOR
– Do not drop or bump the projector, otherwise damages or malfunctions may result.
– When carrying the projector, use a suitable carrying case.
– Do not transport the projector by courier or any other transport service in an unsuitable transport case. This may cause damage to the projector. For information about transporting the projector by courier or any other transport service, consult your dealer.
– Do not put the projector in a case before it is cooled enough.

The AC Power Cord supplied with this projector meets the requirement for use in the country you purchased it.
AC Power Cord for the United States and Canada:
AC Power Cord used in the United States and Canada is listed by the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and certified by the Canadian Standard Association (CSA).
AC Power Cord has a grounding-type AC line plug. This is a safety feature to be sure that the plug will fit into the power outlet. Do not try to defeat this safety feature. Should you be unable to insert the plug into the outlet, contact your electrician.

Point the remote control toward the projector (Infrared Remote Receiver) when pressing any buttons. Maximum operating range for the remote control is about 16.4’ (5 m) and 60 degrees in front of the projector.

Open the battery compartment lid.
Pull up the lid and open it.

Install new batteries into the compartment.

For correct polarity (+ and –), be sure battery terminals are in contact with pins in the compartment.

Replace the compartment lid.
* When the batteries of the remote control are replaced, the remote control code automatically returns to the initial code (Code 1) (p.41).
To ensure safe operation, please observe the following precautions:

Use two (2) AA or LR6 type alkaline batteries.

Always replace batteries in sets.
●
Do not use a new battery with a used battery.
●
Avoid contact with water or liquid.
●
Do not expose the remote control to moisture or heat.
●
Do not drop the remote control.
●
If the battery has leaked on the remote control, carefully wipe the case clean and install new batteries.
●
Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type.
●
Dispose of used batteries according to the instructions.

Installation
Positioning the Projector
This projector is designed to project on a flat projection surface having a focus range of 3.9’ (1.2 m) to 30.2’ (9.2 m) at maximum zoom and 7.9’ (2.4 m) to 60.4’ (18.4 m) at minimum zoom. Refer to the figure and table below for the screen size and distance between the projector and screen.

• The brightness in the room has a great influence on picture quality. It is recommended to limit ambient lighting in order to obtain the best image.

Adjustable Feet
Projection angle can be adjusted up to 6.5 degrees with the adjustable feet.
Rotate the adjustable feet and tilt the projector to the proper height; to raise the feet, rotate the both feet clockwise.
To lower or to retract the adjustable feet, rotate the both feet counterclockwise.

Installation
Moving the Lens
The projection lens can be moved up and down or left and right manually with the Lens Shift Rings, enabling you to adjust the position of a projected image. After adjusting the position, lock the lens with the Lens Shift Lock.

• The best image is generally obtained at the central axis of the lens shift.
• With maximum lens shift in each direction, image distortion may be observed at the edge of the screen.
• With the maximum horizontal lens shift, the maximum vertical lens shift cannot be obtained, and vice versa.
• The Lens Shift Rings are locked at the factory. Make sure that the Lens Shift Lock is released before using the Lens Shift Rings.

Connecting the AC Power Cord
This projector uses nominal input voltages of 100 – 120 V AC and it automatically selects a correct input voltage. It is designed to work with the single-phase power systems having a grounded neutral conductor. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, do not plug into any other type of power system.
If you are not sure of the type of power being supplied, consult your authorized dealer or service station.
Connect the projector with all peripheral equipment before turning it on.
CAUTION
The AC outlet must be near this equipment and must be easily accessible.

When the projector is connected to an outlet with the AC power cord and the Main On/Off switch is on, it is in stand-by mode and consumes a little electric power. Turn the Main On/

Turning On the Projector

Complete peripheral connections (with a computer, VCR, etc.) before turning on the projector.

Connect the projector’s AC power cord into an AC outlet and turn the Main On/Off switch on. The POWER indicator lights red.

Press the POWER ON/STAND-BY button on the top control or on the remote control.
The POWER indicator turns green and the cooling fans start to operate. As the automatic slide shutter opens, a preparation display appears on the screen and the countdown starts.

After the countdown, the input source that was selected the last time appears on the screen.

Turning Off the Projector

Press the POWER ON/STAND-BY button on the top control or on the remote control. “Power off?” appears on the screen. Press the POWER ON/STAND-BY button again to turn off the projector.
When the Power off confirmation function is set to “Off,” the projector can be turned off without the confirmation message. (See “Power off confirmation” on page 40.)
The automatic slide shutter closes and the POWER indicator starts to blink red. The blinking continues for about 90 seconds while the cooling fans are running.

When the projector is cooled down enough to be turned on again, the POWER indicator stops blinking. Then you can turn the Main On/Off switch off and unplug the AC power cord.
“Power off?” disappears after 4 seconds.

• If the automatic slide shutter is closed during operation, the projector is automatically turned off for safety. Be sure to turn off the projector by pressing the POWER ON/STAND-BY button on the top control or on the remote control after use.
• While the POWER indicator is blinking, the lamp is being cooled down and the projector cannot be turned on. Wait until the POWER indicator stops blinking to be turned on again.
• The running speed of cooling fans is changed according to the temperature inside the projector.

How to Operate the On-Screen Menu

The menus have a hierarchical structure, with a main menu that is divided into submenus, which are further divided into other submenus. For each adjustment and setting procedure, refer to respective sections in this manual.

Remote Control Operation
For some frequently used operations, using the remote control is advisable. Just pressing one of the buttons enables you to have the desired operation quickly, and no need for calling up the On-Screen Menu.

Press the LIGHT button to light up the remote control buttons. The light is automatically turned off when no buttons on the remote control are pressed for 10 seconds.
RESET button
Press the RESET button to reset the adjusted data. All adjustments return to their previous figures. When a main menu item is selected, its entire submenu items are reset; when a submenu item is selected, only the selected item is reset. This function is limited to when selecting the Image Adjustment Menu (pp.28
– 33) and Picture Adjustment Menu (p.34).

R, Gamma G, and Gamma B and then press the Point 8 or OK buttons to display the gamma adjustment window. The colored gamma pointer indicates where you are making an adjustment.
The white gamma pointer indicates where the value is set.

• Default position of the gamma pointer is located in the center of the gamma bar. Once you make an adjustment, the gamma pointer remains where the adjustment is made.
• The values are set to 0 when no adjustment is made.
Use the Point 7 8 buttons to move the colored gamma pointer between the gamma bars (9 bars) to select a desired gamma bar.
Use the Point ed buttons to move the colored gamma pointer within the gamma bar (from -15 to +15 except for the left and right end bars) to adjust the gamma value. The adjustment you make reflects on the screen as you change the adjustment value.

COLOR MANAGEMENT LIST
Select Color management in the Advanced menu and then press the Point

or OK buttons. The COLOR MANAGEMENT
LIST appears. You can store up to eight (8) color management data in the list.
In the COLOR MANAGEMENT LIST, the adjusted color data are check marked reflecting the changes in the image. You can choose whether to apply the data in the list to the image.
Clear the check mark if you do not want to apply the data; select the check mark and then press the OK button. The check mark disappears.
If you want to readjust the color, select a color data box in the list and press the OK button. The COLOR SELECTION window appears and you can readjust the color. See below for color selection.
If you want to delete a particular data in the list, select the DEL box and then press the OK button. A confirmation box appears.
Select [Yes] and then press the OK button.
Press the OK button when selecting the following items.
ALL DEL . . . . . . Delete all the data in the list. Press the OK button and a confirmation box appears. Select
[Yes] and press the OK button.
COLOR M. . . . . Go to COLOR SELECTION.
EXIT . . . . . . . . . Exit the Color management mode and return to the Advanced menu. To store the adjusted data, see “Store” on the next page.

LIST disappears and the Color management pointer appears.
Use the Point ed 7 8 buttons to move the pointer to a spot where you want to adjust the color and then press the
OK button. The image freezes and the COLOR SELECTION window appears. (Note that when certain colors are chosen, an exclamation mark is displayed indicating that these colors are not adjustable.)

buttons to select COLOR LEVEL, COLOR
PHASE, or GAMMA and the Point 7 8 buttons to adjust them. While adjusting, the changes are reflected in the image accordingly. If you press the MENU button while operating the color selection, the Color management pointer will be reset.
After adjusting, press the OK button to go to the COLOR
MANAGEMENT LIST.

OK buttons. The User Image Mode Menu appears. Use the Point ed buttons to choose one of the five (5) user image modes and press the Point

Select [Yes] and then press the OK button.
To exit the User Image Mode Menu, go to the Quit icon and press the Point

or OK buttons. The stored data can be called up by selecting “User image 1 – 5” in the Image Mode Selection on page 27.

Some input source employ special signal formats which may not be tuned by the auto-tuning system of this projector.
Picture Adjustment enables you to precisely adjust several parameters manually to match those signal formats. The parameters manually adjusted is stored for every input.

• The adjusting range for the Horizontal and Vertical positions, and
Total dots differs depending on the input signal. When the video signal format is 480i or 575i, the adjusting range for the Horizontal position will be from -8 to +8.
• The Auto adj. function cannot be operated with the video input, some incompatible computer input and digital signals.

• When the adjustment exceeds the signal range of Horizontal and

Full
Fit the image to the screen by expanding the width of the image uniformly. This function can be used to project a squeezed video signal at the wide video aspect ratio of 16:9.
Zoom
Fit the image to the screen size (16:9 aspect ratio) by expanding the width and height of the image uniformly.
With the input signals other than 1080p, 1080i or 720p, this function is used to project a letterboxed picture (the 4:3 aspect ratio picture with a black bar at the top and bottom) at the wide video aspect ratio of 16:9.
When the input signal is 1080p, 1080i or 720p, a letterboxed picture in a 16:9 screen can be projected by expanding at the wide video aspect ratio of 16:9.
In the Zoom mode, you can also adjust the display range with the vertical adj. function. See “Vertical adj.” on the next page for details.
Normal
Fit the image to the center of the screen at the normal video aspect ratio of 4:3.
Natural wide
Modify the image to fit the screen size by stretching the image to make it look natural.
When the video signal format is 480i, 575i, 480p, or 575p, the 4:3 aspect ratio image is modified to fit the screen size (16:9 aspect ratio.)
When the video signal format is 1080p, 1080i, or 720p, the 4:3 aspect ratio image in 16:9 signals is modified to fit the screen size
(16:9 aspect ratio.)
Anamorphic
Modify the 2.35:1 aspect ratio image in 16:9 signals to fit the screen size by stretching the image in a vertical direction. This function can be selected only when 1080i, 1080p, or 720p signals are selected.
In the Anamorphic mode, you can also adjust the display range with the vertical adj. function. See “Vertical adj.” on the next page for details.

The adjusted value is only effective in the Zoom and Anamorphic mode. When the Reset button is pressed while the Vertical adj. dialog box is displayed, the adjusted value returns to 0.
The Vertical adj. dialog box cannot be displayed when the On-

• When starting to capture a new image, the previously stored image is cleared even if you cancel the capturing.

Setting
Power management
For reducing power consumption as well as maintaining the lamp life, the Power management function turns off the projection lamp when the projector is not used for a certain period.
When this function is “On” and if the input signal is interrupted and no button is pressed for more than 30 seconds, the timer display with “No signal” appears on the screen. It starts the countdown until the lamp is turned off. The countdown time is set to five (5) minutes.
When the countdown time has elapsed, the lamp is turned off to cool itself down. The POWER indicator is blinking red during the cooling-off period. When the lamp has been fully cooled down, the POWER indicator changes to green blinking. In this condition, the projection lamp can be turned on when the input signal is reconnected or any button on the top control or remote control is pressed.
Press the Point 8 or OK buttons to switch On/Off.
Remote control
Two different remote control codes are assigned to this projector: the factory-set code (Code 1) and the secondary code (Code 2).
This switching function prevents interference from other remote controls when several projectors or video equipment next to each other are used at the same time.
When operating the projector in Code 2, the code for both the projector and the remote control must be switched to Code 2.
To change the code of the projector:

Shutter demo

Test pattern
A test pattern for zoom and focus adjustment is available for use when setting up the projector.
Filter counter
This function is used to set a frequency for the filter cleaning.
When the projector reached a specified time between cleanings, a
Filter warning icon appears on the screen, notifying the cleaning is necessary.
Use the Point
8 button to select the desired timer [Off/ 50H/ 100H/
200H/ 300H/ 400H/ 500H] and press the OK button. After cleaning the filter, be sure to select [Reset] and set the timer. The Filter warning icon will not turn off until the filter counter is reset.
For details about resetting the timer, refer to “Resetting the Filter
Counter” on page 48.
Cleaning
This function is used to clean the inside of the projector. Using a blower at the same time is more effective. See page 46.
Press the Point 8 or OK buttons, then the projected image is blacked out temporarily regardless of whether or not an input source is selected.
To cancel the cleaning function, set the projector back into the right position, then press any other button during cleaning operations.

Fan control
Choose the running speed of cooling fans from the following options according to the environment, where there is a drastic elevation of room temperature while the projector is being used.
Normal ....... Normal speed.
Mode 1 ...... Faster than Normal mode. Use this mode when you want to increase the cooling effect when operating the projector in the environment, where there is a drastic elevation of room temperature.
Mode 2 ...... Faster than Mode 1 mode. Use this mode when you want to increase the cooling effect when operating the projector in the environment, where there is a more drastic elevation of room temperature.

Lamp counter reset
This function resets the lamp replacement counter. When replacing the projection lamp, reset the lamp replacement counter with this function. See page 50 for operation.

Warning Indicator
The WARNING indicator shows the state of the function that protects the projector. Check the state of the WARNING indicator and the POWER indicator to take proper maintenance.
The projector is shut down and the WARNING indicator is blinking red.
When the temperature inside the projector reaches a certain level, the projector is automatically shut down to protect its inside. The
POWER indicator is blinking while the projector is being cooled down. When the projector has cooled down sufficiently (to its normal operating temperature), it can be turned on again by pressing the POWER ON/STAND-BY button.

Note:
• The WARNING indicator continues to blink even after the temperature inside the projector returns to normal. When the projector is turned on again, the WARNING indicator stops blinking.
Then check the items below .
– Did you provide appropriate space for the projector to be ventilated? Check the installing condition to see if ventilation slots are not blocked.
– Has the projector been installed near an Air-Conditioning/Heating
Duct or Vent? Move the installation of the projector away from the duct or vent.

Cleaning the RGB panels
Blemishes such as dust and dirt on the internal optical components of the projector tend to degrade the brightness of the screen and are likely to appear as a shadow on the screen, which can lead to deterioration of image quality.
This projector has the RGB panel cleaning holes on the underside for cleaning of the internal parts (such as optical components) of the projector. When you use the projector for a lengthy period of time or a shadow of dust appears on the projected screen, clean the inside of the projector.
Using the supplied air blower and with the Cleaning function in the Setting Menu (p.42), you can remove the dusts from the projector.

Do not attempt to pull the nozzle out of the blower. If the nozzle happened to be pulled out, put it back into the blower immediately.

Do not use the blower supplied with this projector (model: 1080HD) to clean the other models: Z3 and Z1X.
If something is wrong with the projector (such as smoke, a strange sound, or an abnormal odor) while you are cleaning, turn off and unplug the projector immediately, then call the dealer where you purchased the projector or service center.
If the nozzle is pulled out . . . .
The nozzle has the stopper. Put the stopper-side of the nozzle into the blower. Put the nozzle firmly into the blower until the stopper becomes invisible.
When putting the nozzle into the blower, hold near the stopper so that it will not break.
Be sure not to try to pull the nozzle out of the blower.

Cleaning the Air Filter
The air filter prevents dust from accumulating on the surface of the optical elements inside the projector. Should the air filter becomes clogged with dust particles, it will reduce cooling fan’s effectiveness and may result in a buildup of internal heat and adversely affect the life of the projector. Clean the air filter by following the steps below.
Unplug the AC power cord before cleaning.
Press the latch and release it. Take off the filter cover.

Pull out the air filter.
When taking out the air filter, put your fingers on the air filter’s tabs and pull. Do not try to pull the delicate filter part.
Remove dust and dirt with a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner.
Be careful not to damage the air filter and do not clean it with water.
When the air filter gets dusty and dirty, replace it with a new one. For ordering the replacement filter, contact your sales dealer.

RECOMMENDATION
We recommend avoiding dusty/smoky environments when operating the projector . Usage in these environment may cause a poor image quality .
When using the projector under dusty or smoky conditions, dust may accumulate on a lens, LCD panels, or optical elements inside the projector degrading the quality of a projected image.
When the symptoms above are noticed, contact your authorized dealer or service station for proper cleaning.
CAUTION
Do not operate the projector with the air filters removed. Dust may accumulate on the optical elements degrading picture quality. Do not put anything into the air intake vents. Otherwise it may result in malfunction of the projector.

Avoid using an excessive amount of cleaner. Abrasive cleaners, solvents, or other harsh chemicals might scratch the surface of the lens.
When the projector is not in use, make sure that the automatic slide shutter is closed.

Cleaning the Projector Cabinet
Unplug the AC power cord before cleaning.
Gently wipe the projector body with a dry soft cloth. When the cabinet is heavily soiled, apply a small amount of mild detergent and finish with a dry soft cloth. Avoid using an excessive amount of cleaner. Abrasive cleaners, solvents, or other harsh chemicals might scratch the surface of the cabinet.
When the projector is not in use, put it in an appropriate carrying case to protect it from dust and scratches.

Lamp Replacement
When the projection lamp of this projector reaches its end of life, the LAMP REPLACE indicator emits yellow light. If this indicator lights yellow, replace the lamp with a new one promptly.
The time when the LAMP REPLACE indicator should light is depending on the lamp mode.
This indicator lights yellow when the projection lamp reaches its end of life.
Top Control
CAUTION
Allow the projector to cool, for at least 45 minutes before you open the lamp cover. The inside of the projector can become very hot.
Follow these steps to replace the lamp.

Turn off the projector and unplug the AC power cord. Let the projector cool for at least 45 minutes.

Loosen the screw that secures the lamp cover, and then open the lamp cover.

Loosen the two (2) screws that secure the lamp. Pull out the lamp by using the built in handle.

Replace the lamp with a new one and secure it with the two
(2) screws. Make sure that the lamp is set properly. Put the lamp cover back and secure it with the screw.

Connect the AC power cord to the projector and turn on the projector.

Reset the Lamp replacement counter (p.50).
CAUTION
For continued safety, replace the lamp with the same type lamp. Do not drop the lamp or touch the glass bulb! The glass can shatter and may cause injury.

LAMP HANDLING PRECAUTIONS
This projector uses a high-pressure lamp which must be handled carefully and properly. Improper handling may result in accidents, injury, or create a fire hazard.
●
Lamp lifetime may differ from lamp to lamp and according to the environment of use. There is no guarantee of the same lifetime for each lamp. Some lamps may fail or terminate their lifetime in a shorter period of time than other similar lamps.
●
If the projector indicates that the lamp should be replaced, i.e., if the LAMP REPLACE indicator lights up, replace the lamp with a new one IMMEDIATELY after the projector has cooled down.
(Follow carefully the instructions in the Lamp Replacement section of this manual.) Continuous use of the lamp with the LAMP REPLACE indicator lighted may increase the risk of lamp explosion.
●
A Lamp may explode as a result of vibration, shock or degradation as a result of hours of use as its lifetime draws to an end. Risk of explosion may differ according to the environment or conditions in which the projector and lamp are being used.
IF A LAMP EXPLODES, THE FOLLOWING SAFETy PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN .
If a lamp explodes, disconnect the projector’s AC plug from the AC outlet immediately. Contact an authorized service station for a checkup of the unit and replacement of the lamp. Additionally, check carefully to ensure that there are no broken shards or pieces of glass around the projector or coming out from the cooling air circulation holes. Any broken shards found should be cleaned up carefully. No one should check the inside of the projector except those who are authorized trained technicians and who are familiar with projector service. Inappropriate attempts to service the unit by anyone, especially those who are not appropriately trained to do so, may result in an accident or injury caused by pieces of broken glass.

Troubleshooting
Before calling your dealer or service center for assistance, check the items below once again.
– Make sure you have properly connected the projector to peripheral equipment as described in “Connecting to Video
Equipment” and “Connecting to a Computer” on pages 15 – 16.
– Make sure all equipment is connected to an AC outlet and the power is turned on.
– When you operate the projector with a computer and it does not project an image, restart the computer.
Problem:
No power.
Lens Shift does not work.
The initial display is not shown.
– Solutions
– Plug the power cord of the projector into an AC outlet.
– See if the automatic slide shutter is only half-open. When it is half-open, the POWER indicator blinks orange and the projector cannot be turned on (see page 18).
– See if the Main On/Off switch is on.
– Wait 90 seconds after the projector is turned off to restart the projector. The projector can be turned on after the POWER indicator turns red (see page 19).
– Check the WARNING indicator. If the WARNING indicator lights red, the projector cannot be turned on (see page 44).
– Check the projection lamp (see page 49).
– Check if the projector is installed on a flat surface.
– Release the Lens Shift Lock (see page 14).
– Make sure “Off” or “Countdown Off” are not chosen at Display function (see page
40).
– Make sure “User” or “Off” are not chosen at Logo function (see page 40).
The initial display is not same with the default one.
Filter warning icon appears during turning on the projector or switching
the input source.

– Adjust the focus of the projector (see page 22).

– Moving the projector from a cool to warm place may result in moisture condensation on the projection lens. If this occurs, leave the projector off and wait until condensation evaporates.
– Projecting from the excessive slant angle to the screen may cause keystone distortion and partial imperfect focus (see page 14).
– Check the connection between your computer or video equipment and the projector
(see pages 15 – 16).
– See if the input signal is correctly output from your computer. For some laptop computers, the setting for the monitor output needs to be changed when connecting to a projector. See your computer’s instruction manual for the setting.
– It takes about 20 seconds to display an image after turning on the projector.
– See if the selected system is corresponding to your computer or video equipment
(see pages 24 – 26).
– Select a correct input source once again through Menu operation
(see pages 25 – 26).
– Make sure the temperature is not out of the specified operating temperature (41°F
– 95°F [5°C – 35°C]).
– When “No show” is operating, the image cannot be displayed. Press the NO SHOW button or any other button on the remote control (see page 23).
– When “Cleaning” is operating, the image cannot be displayed. Press any button on the top control or on the remote control (see page 42).
– Check if “Contrast” or “Brightness” are adjusted properly (see page 28).
– Check if “Image mode” is selected properly (see page 27).
