READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING. WARNING! Use this appliance only for its intended purpose as described in this Owner’s Manual. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should be followed, including the following: Operating Instructions ■ This refrigerator must be properly installed and located in accordance with the Installation Instructions before it is used. ■ Do not allow children to climb, stand or hang on the shelves in the refrigerator. They could damage the refrigerator and seriously injure themselves. ■ Do not touch the cold surfaces in the freezer compartment when hands are damp or wet. Skin may stick to these extremely cold surfaces. Installation Instructions ■ Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any other appliance. Consumer Support Troubleshooting Tips ■ In refrigerators with automatic icemakers, avoid contact with the moving parts of the ejector mechanism, or with the heating element that releases the cubes. Do not place fingers or hands on the automatic icemaking mechanism while the refrigerator is plugged in. 2 ■ Keep fingers out of the “pinch point” areas; clearances between the doors and between the doors and cabinet are necessarily small. Be careful closing doors when children are in the area. ■ Unplug the refrigerator before cleaning and making repairs. NOTE: We strongly recommend that any servicing be performed by a qualified individual. ■ Setting the freezer control to the 0 (off) position does not remove power to the light circuit. ■ Do not refreeze frozen foods which have thawed completely. DANGER! RISK OF CHILD ENTRAPMENT PROPER DISPOSAL OF THE REFRIGERATOR Before You Throw Away Your Old Refrigerator or Freezer: ■ Take off the doors. ■ Leave the shelves in place so that children may not easily climb inside. CFC Disposal Your old refrigerator may have a cooling system that used CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons). CFCs are believed to harm stratospheric ozone. If you are throwing away your old refrigerator, make sure the CFC refrigerant is removed for proper disposal by a qualified servicer. If you intentionally release this CFC refrigerant you can be subject to fines and imprisonment under provisions of environmental legislation. Installation Instructions USE OF EXTENSION CORDS Operating Instructions Child entrapment and suffocation are not problems of the past. Junked or abandoned refrigerators are still dangerous…even if they will sit for “just a few days.” If you are getting rid of your old refrigerator, please follow the instructions below to help prevent accidents. Safety Instructions www.GEAppliances.com Because of potential safety hazards under certain conditions, we strongly recommend against the use of an extension cord. However, if you must use an extension cord, it is absolutely necessary that it be a UL-listed (in the United States) or a CSA-listed (in Canada), 3-wire grounding type appliance extension cord having a grounding type plug and outlet and that the electrical rating of the cord be 15 amperes (minimum) and 120 volts. Troubleshooting Tips Consumer Support 3 WARNING! HOW TO CONNECT ELECTRICITY Do not, under any circumstances, cut or remove the third (ground) prong from the power cord. For personal safety, this appliance must be properly grounded. The power cord of this appliance is equipped with a 3-prong (grounding) plug which mates with a standard 3-prong (grounding) wall outlet to minimize the possibility of electric shock hazard from this appliance. Operating Instructions Safety Instructions IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION. READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING. Have the wall outlet and circuit checked by a qualified electrician to make sure the outlet is properly grounded. If the outlet is a standard 2-prong outlet, it is your personal responsibility and obligation to have it replaced with a properly grounded 3-prong wall outlet. Installation Instructions The refrigerator should always be plugged into its own individual electrical outlet which has a voltage rating that matches the rating plate. This provides the best performance and also prevents overloading house wiring circuits which could cause a fire hazard from overheated wires. Never unplug your refrigerator by pulling on the power cord. Always grip plug firmly and pull straight out from the outlet. Repair or replace immediately all power cords that have become frayed or otherwise damaged. Do not use a cord that shows cracks or abrasion damage along its length or at either end. When moving the refrigerator away from the wall, be careful not to roll over or damage the power cord. USE OF ADAPTER PLUGS (Adapter plugs not permitted in Canada) Because of potential safety hazards under certain conditions, we strongly recommend against the use of an adapter plug. Troubleshooting Tips However, if you must use an adapter, where local codes permit, a temporary connection may be made to a properly grounded 2-prong wall outlet by use of a UL-listed adapter available at most local hardware stores. The larger slot in the adapter must be aligned with the larger slot in the wall outlet to provide proper polarity in the connection of the power cord. When disconnecting the power cord from the adapter, always hold the adapter in place with one hand while pulling the power cord plug with the other hand. If this is not done, the adapter ground terminal is very likely to break with repeated use. If the adapter ground terminal breaks, DO NOT USE the refrigerator until a proper ground has been established. Attaching the adapter ground terminal to a wall outlet cover screw does not ground the appliance unless the cover screw is metal, and not insulated, and the wall outlet is grounded through the house wiring. You should have the circuit checked by a qualified electrician to make sure the outlet is properly grounded. Consumer Support READ AND FOLLOW THIS SAFETY INFORMATION CAREFULLY. On some models Water Filter Cartridge Lining up the arrow on the cartridge and the cartridge holder, place the top of the new cartridge up inside the holder. Do not push it up into the holder. The water filter cartridge is located in the back upper right corner of the refrigerator compartment. When to Replace the Filter on Models With a Replacement Indicator Light Slowly turn it to the right until the filter cartridge stops. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. As you turn the cartridge, it will automatically raise itself into position. Cartridge will rotate about 1/2 turn. There is a replacement indicator light for the water filter cartridge on the dispenser. This light will turn orange to tell you that you need to replace the filter soon. Cartridge Holder Place the top of the cartridge up inside the cartridge holder and slowly turn it to the right. The filter cartridge should be replaced when the replacement indicator light turns red or if the flow of water to the dispenser or icemaker decreases. When to Replace the Filter on Models Without a Replacement Indicator Light The filter cartridge should be replaced every six months or earlier if the flow of water to the water dispenser or icemaker decreases. Filter Bypass Plug Installing the Filter Cartridge If you are replacing the cartridge, first remove the old one by slowly turning it to the left. Do not pull down on the cartridge. A small amount of water may drip down. On models without a replacement indicator light, apply the month and year sticker to the new cartridge to remind you to replace the filter in six months. (on some models) Run water from the dispenser for 3 minutes (about one and a half gallons) to clear the system and prevent sputtering. Fill the replacement cartridge with water from the tap to allow for better flow from the dispenser immediately after installation. Press and hold the RESET WATER FILTER pad (on some models) on the dispenser for 3 seconds. NOTE: A newly-installed water filter cartridge may cause water to spurt from the dispenser. Filter Bypass Plug You must use the filter bypass plug when a replacement filter cartridge is not available. The dispenser and the icemaker will not operate without the filter or filter bypass plug. When replacing the crispers, make sure you slide them through the crisper guides. About the automatic icemaker. A newly-installed refrigerator may take 12–24 hours to begin making ice. Automatic Icemaker (on some models) Power Switch Feeler Arm The icemaker will produce seven cubes per cycle—approximately 100–130 cubes in a 24-hour period, depending on freezer compartment temperature, room temperature, number of door openings and other use conditions. If the refrigerator is operated before the water connection is made to the icemaker, set the power switch in the O (off) position. When the refrigerator has been connected to the water supply, set the power switch to the l (on) position. If ice is not used frequently, old ice cubes will become cloudy, taste stale and shrink. If ice cubes get stuck in the icemaker, the green power light will blink. To correct this, set the power switch to O (off) and remove the cubes. Set the power switch to l (on) to restart the icemaker. After the icemaker has been turned on again, there will be a delay of about 45 minutes before the icemaker resumes operation. NOTE: In homes with lower-than-average water pressure, you may hear the icemaker cycle multiple times when making one batch of ice. Troubleshooting Tips The icemaker will fill with water when it cools to 15°F. A newly-installed refrigerator may take 12 to 24 hours to begin making ice cubes. Throw away the first few batches of ice to allow the water line to clear. Be sure nothing interferes with the sweep of the feeler arm. It is normal for several cubes to be joined together. Installation Instructions Green Power Light Icemaker Safety Instructions About crisper removal. There is an upper freezer shelf above the icemaker that can be used for storage. Ice Storage Drawer To access ice, pull the drawer out. Consumer Support To remove the drawer, pull it straight out and lift it past the stop location. Icemaker Accessory Kit If your refrigerator did not come already equipped with an automatic icemaker, an icemaker accessory kit is available at extra cost. Check the back of the refrigerator for the specific icemaker kit needed for your model. 9 On some models To Use the Dispenser Select CUBED ICE or WATER . Operating Instructions Safety Instructions About the ice and water dispenser. Installation Instructions Spill Shelf , CRUSHED ICE Press the glass gently against the top of the dispenser cradle. The spill shelf is not self-draining. To reduce water spotting, the shelf and its grille should be cleaned regularly. If no water is dispensed when the refrigerator is first installed, there may be air in the water line system. Press the dispenser arm for at least two minutes to remove trapped air from the water line and to fill the water system. To flush out impurities in the water line, throw away the first six glassfuls of water. CAUTION: Never put fingers or any other objects into the ice crusher discharge opening. Ice Storage Drawer on Dispenser Models Locking the Dispenser (on some models) Press the LOCK CONTROL pad for 3 seconds to lock the dispenser and control panel. To unlock, press and hold the pad again for 3 seconds. Dispenser Light This pad turns the night light in the dispenser on and off. The light also comes on when the dispenser cradle is pressed. If this light burns out, it should be replaced with a 6 watt maximum, 12 volt DC bulb. Rotate To remove: Set the icemaker power switch to the O (off) position. Pull the drawer straight out and then lift past the stop position. Troubleshooting Tips To replace: When replacing the drawer, make sure to push it firmly into place. If it does not go all the way back, remove it and rotate the drive mechanism 1/4 turn. Then push the drawer back again. Drive Mechanism Important Facts About Your Dispenser ■ Do not add ice from trays or bags to the storage bin. It may not crush or dispense well. Consumer Support ■ Avoid overfilling glass with ice and use of narrow glasses. Backed-up ice can jam the chute or cause the door in the chute to freeze shut. If ice is blocking the chute, poke it through with a wooden spoon. ■ Beverages and foods should not be quick-chilled in the ice storage bin. Cans, bottles or food packages in the storage bin may cause the icemaker or auger to jam. 10 ■ To keep dispensed ice from missing the glass, put the glass close to, but not touching, the dispenser opening. ■ Some crushed ice may be dispensed even though you selected CUBED ICE. This happens occasionally when a few cubes have been left in the crusher. ■ After crushed ice is dispensed, some water may drip from the chute. ■ Sometimes a small mound of snow will form on the door in the ice chute. This condition is normal and usually occurs when you have dispensed crushed ice repeatedly. The snow will eventually evaporate. www.GEAppliances.com Cleaning the Outside Dispenser drip area. The dispenser drip area, (on some models) beneath the grille, should be wiped dry. Water left in this area may leave deposits. Remove the deposits by adding undiluted vinegar to the well. Soak until the deposits disappear or become loose enough to rinse away. Keep the outside clean. Wipe with a clean cloth lightly dampened with kitchen appliance wax or mild liquid dish detergent. Dry and polish with a clean, soft cloth. Do not wipe the refrigerator with a soiled dish cloth or wet towel. These may leave a residue that can erode the paint. Do not use scouring pads, powdered cleaners, bleach or cleaners containing bleach because these products can scratch and weaken the paint finish. Cleaning the Inside Unplug the refrigerator before cleaning. If this is not practical, wring excess moisture out of sponge or cloth when cleaning around switches, lights or controls. Use warm water and baking soda solution— about a tablespoon (15 ml) of baking soda to a quart (1 l) of water. This both cleans and neutralizes odors. Rinse and wipe dry. Avoid cleaning cold glass shelves with hot water because the extreme temperature difference may cause them to break. Handle glass shelves carefully. Bumping tempered glass can cause it to shatter. Do not wash any plastic refrigerator parts in the dishwasher. Condenser There is no need for routine condenser cleaning in normal home operating environments. However, in environments that may be particularly dusty or greasy, the condenser should be cleaned periodically for efficient refrigerator operation. Cleaning the condenser: The condenser is located inside the back of the refrigerator. To access it, first unplug the refrigerator. Then remove the access cover. The condenser is on the right side. Troubleshooting Tips After cleaning the door gaskets, apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the door gaskets at the hinge side. This helps keep the gaskets from sticking and bending out of shape. Drain opening in freezer compartment. During yearly cleaning, remove bottom freezer basket and flush a solution of baking soda—1 teaspoon (5 ml) and 2 cups (500 ml) of hot (not boiling) water— through the drain line with the help of a meat baster. This will help eliminate odor and reduce the likelihood of a clogged drain line. If drain becomes clogged, use a meat baster and baking soda solution to force the clog through the drain line. Installation Instructions To help prevent odors, leave an open box of baking soda in the fresh food and freezer compartments. Operating Instructions The dispenser cradle (on some models). Before cleaning, lock the dispenser by pressing and holding the LOCK CONTROL pad for 3 seconds. Clean with warm water and baking soda solution—about a tablespoon (15 ml) of baking soda to a quart (1 l) of water. Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry. The door handles and trim. Clean with a cloth dampened with soapy water. Dry with a soft cloth. Safety Instructions Care and cleaning of the refrigerator. Consumer Support 11 Behind the Refrigerator Be careful when moving the refrigerator away from the wall. All types of floor coverings can be damaged, particularly cushioned coverings and those with embossed surfaces. When pushing the refrigerator back, make sure you don’t roll over the power cord or icemaker supply line (on some models). Pull the refrigerator straight out and return it to position by pushing it straight in. Moving the refrigerator in a side direction may result in damage to the floor covering or refrigerator. Operating Instructions Safety Instructions Care and cleaning of the refrigerator. Preparing for Vacation For long vacations or absences, remove food and unplug the refrigerator. Clean the interior with a baking soda solution of one tablespoon (15 ml) of baking soda to one quart (1 l) of water. Leave the doors open. If the temperature can drop below freezing, have a qualified servicer drain the water supply system (on some models) to prevent serious property damage due to flooding. Installation Instructions Set the icemaker power switch to the O (off) position and shut off the water supply to the refrigerator. Preparing to Move Secure all loose items such as grille, shelves and drawers by taping them securely in place to prevent damage. Consumer Support Troubleshooting Tips Be sure the refrigerator stays in an upright position during moving. 12 www.GEAppliances.com Turning the control to the 0 (off) position does not remove power to the light circuit. ROLLERS The rollers have 3 purposes: ■ Rollers adjust so the door closes easily when opened about halfway. ■ Rollers adjust so the refrigerator is firmly positioned on the floor and does not wobble. ■ Rollers allow you to move the refrigerator away from the wall for cleaning. WATER SUPPLY TO THE ICEMAKER (on some models) To adjust the rollers, remove the base grille by pulling it out at the bottom. If the refrigerator has an icemaker, it will have to be connected to a cold water line. A GE water supply kit (containing tubing, shutoff valve, fittings and instructions) is available at extra cost from your dealer, by visiting our Website at www.GEAppliances.com (in Canada, at www.geappliances.ca) or from Parts and Accessories, 800.626.2002. Turn the roller adjusting screws clockwise to raise the refrigerator, counterclockwise to lower it. Use an adjustable wrench (3/8″ hex head bolt) or pliers. REFRIGERATOR LOCATION • Do not install the refrigerator where the temperature will go below 60°F (16°C) because it will not run often enough to maintain proper temperatures. • Install it on a floor strong enough to support it fully loaded. To replace base grille, line up the clips on back of grille between the bar and the bottom of the cabinet. Push forward until grille snaps into place. 14 Installation Instructions DOOR ALIGNMENT After leveling, make sure that doors are even at the top. To make the doors even, adjust the refrigerator door. Using a 5/16″ socket wrench, turn the door adjusting screw to the right to raise the door, to the left to lower it. (A nylon plug, embedded in the threads of the pin, prevents the pin from turning unless a wrench is used.) After one or two turns of the wrench, open and close the fresh food door and check the alignment at the top of the doors. 5/16″ Socket Wrench To remove the base grille, open the doors and then pull the grille straight out. Raise 15 Installation Instructions INSTALLING THE WATER LINE BEFORE YOU BEGIN WHAT YOU WILL NEED Recommended copper water supply kits are WX8X2, WX8X3 or WX8X4, depending on the amount of tubing you need. Approved plastic water supply lines are GE SmartConnect™ Refrigerator Tubing (WX08X10002, WX08X10006, WX08X10015 and WX08X10025). When connecting your refrigerator to a GE Reverse Osmosis Water System, the only approved installation is with a GE RVKit. For other reverse osmosis water systems, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations. If the water supply to the refrigerator is from a Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System AND the refrigerator also has a water filter, use the refrigerator’s filter bypass plug. Using the refrigerator’s water filtration cartridge in conjunction with the RO filter can result in hollow ice cubes and slower water flow from the water dispenser. This water line installation is not warranted by the refrigerator or icemaker manufacturer. Follow these instructions carefully to minimize the risk of expensive water damage. Water hammer (water banging in the pipes) in house plumbing can cause damage to refrigerator parts and lead to water leakage or flooding. Call a qualified plumber to correct water hammer before installing the water supply line to the refrigerator. To prevent burns and product damage, do not hook up the water line to the hot water line. If you use your refrigerator before connecting the water line, make sure the icemaker power switch is in the O (off) position. Do not install the icemaker tubing in areas where temperatures fall below freezing. When using any electrical device (such as a power drill) during installation, be sure the device is double insulated or grounded in a manner to prevent the hazard of electric shock, or is battery powered. All installations must be in accordance with local plumbing code requirements. • Copper or GE SmartConnect™ Refrigerator Tubing kit, 1/4″ outer diameter to connect the refrigerator to the water supply. If using copper, be sure both ends of the tubing are cut square. To determine how much tubing you need: measure the distance from the water valve on the back of the refrigerator to the water supply pipe. Then add 8′ (2.4 m). Be sure there is sufficient extra tubing (about 8′ [2.4 m] coiled into 3 turns of about 10″ [25 cm] diameter) to allow the refrigerator to move out from the wall after installation. GE SmartConnect™ Refrigerator Tubing Kits are available in the following lengths: 2′ (.6 m) – WX08X10002 6′ (1.8 m) – WX08X10006 15′ (4.6 m) – WX08X10015 25′ (7.6 m) – WX08X10025 Be sure that the kit you select allows at least 8′ (2.4 m) as described above. NOTE: The only GE approved plastic tubing is that supplied in GE SmartConnect™ Refrigerator Tubing kits. Do not use any other plastic water supply line because the line is under pressure at all times. Certain types of plastic will crack or rupture with age and cause water damage to your home. 16 Installation Instructions Install the shutoff valve on the nearest frequently used drinking water line. WHAT YOU WILL NEED (CONT.) • A GE water supply kit (containing tubing, shutoff valve and fittings listed below) is available at extra cost from your dealer or from Parts and Accessories, 800.626.2002. • A cold water supply. The water pressure must be between 20 and 120 p.s.i. (1.4–8.2 bar) on models without a water filter and between 40 and 120 p.s.i. (2.8–8.2 bar) on models with a water filter. 1 SHUT OFF THE MAIN WATER SUPPLY Turn on the nearest faucet long enough to clear the line of water. 2 CHOOSE THE VALVE LOCATION Choose a location for the valve that is easily accessible. It is best to connect into the side of a vertical water pipe. When it is necessary to connect into a horizontal water pipe, make the connection to the top or side, rather than at the bottom, to avoid drawing off any sediment from the water pipe. • Power drill. • 1/2″ or adjustable wrench. • Straight and Phillips blade screwdriver. • Two 1/4 ″ outer diameter compression nuts and 2 ferrules (sleeves)—to connect the copper tubing to the shutoff valve and the refrigerator water valve. OR • If you are using a GE SmartConnect™ Refrigerator Tubing kit, the necessary fittings are preassembled to the tubing. 3 DRILL THE HOLE FOR THE VALVE Drill a 1/4″ hole in the water pipe (even if using a self-piercing valve) using a sharp bit. Remove any burrs resulting from drilling the hole in the pipe. Take care not to allow water to drain into the drill. Failure to drill a 1/4″ hole may result in reduced ice production or smaller cubes. • If your existing copper water line has a flared fitting at the end, you will need an adapter (available at plumbing supply stores) to connect the water line to the refrigerator OR you can cut off the flared fitting with a tube cutter and then use a compression fitting. Do not cut formed end from GE SmartConnect™ Refrigerator tubing. • Shutoff valve to connect to the cold water line. The shutoff valve should have a water inlet with a minimum inside diameter of 5/32″ at the point of connection to the COLD WATER LINE. Saddle-type shutoff valves are included in many water supply kits. Before purchasing, make sure a saddle-type valve complies with your local plumbing codes. 17 Installation Instructions INSTALLING THE WATER LINE (cont.) 4 FASTEN THE SHUTOFF VALVE 7 CONNECT THE TUBING TO THE VALVE Fasten the shutoff valve to the cold water pipe with the pipe clamp. Place the compression nut and ferrule (sleeve) for copper tubing onto the end of the tubing and connect it to the shutoff valve. Pipe Clamp Make sure the tubing is fully inserted into the valve. Tighten the compression nut securely. Saddle-Type Shutoff Valve For plastic tubing from a GE SmartConnect™ Refrigerator Tubing kit, insert the molded end of the tubing into the shutoff valve and tighten compression nut until it is hand tight, then tighten one additional turn with a wrench. Overtightening may cause leaks. Vertical Cold Water Pipe NOTE: Commonwealth of Massachusetts Plumbing Codes 248CMR shall be adhered to. Packing Nut Outlet Valve NOTE: Do not overtighten or you may crush the tubing. Washer Pipe Clamp Ferrule (sleeve) NOTE: Commonwealth of Massachusetts Plumbing Codes 248CMR shall be adhered to. Saddle valves are illegal and use is not permitted in Massachusetts. Consult with your licensed plumber. Inlet End Clamp Screw 8 FLUSH OUT THE TUBING Turn the main water supply on and flush out the tubing until the water is clear. Shut the water off at the water valve after about one quart (1 liter) of water has been flushed through the tubing. 6 ROUTE THE TUBING Route the tubing between the cold water line and the refrigerator. Route the tubing through a hole drilled in the wall or floor (behind the refrigerator or adjacent base cabinet) as close to the wall as possible. NOTE: Be sure there is sufficient extra tubing (about 8′ [2.4 m] coiled into 3 turns of about 10″ [25 cm] diameter) to allow the refrigerator to move out from the wall after installation. 18 Installation Instructions 9 CONNECT THE TUBING TO THE REFRIGERATOR (CONT.) 9 CONNECT THE TUBING TO THE REFRIGERATOR Insert the end of the tubing into the refrigerator connection as far as possible. While holding the tubing, tighten the fitting. NOTES: • Before making the connection to the refrigerator, be sure the refrigerator power cord is not plugged into the wall outlet. • If your refrigerator does not have a water filter, we recommend installing one if your water supply has sand or particles that could clog the screen of the refrigerator’s water valve. Install it in the water line near the refrigerator. If using a GE SmartConnect™ Refrigerator Tubing kit, you will need an additional tube (WX08X10002) to connect the filter. Do not cut plastic tube to install filter. For plastic tubing from a GE SmartConnect Refrigerator Tubing kit, insert the molded end of the tubing into the refrigerator connection and tighten the compression nut until it is hand tight, then tighten one additional turn with a wrench. Overtightening may cause leaks. Fasten the tubing into the clamp provided as shown to keep it in position. You may need to pry open the clamp. One of the illustrations below will look like the connection on your refrigerator. Some models have the refrigerator connection at the end of tubing located outside the compressor compartment access cover. On other models, the compressor compartment access cover must be removed in order to access the refrigerator connection at the water valve. Tubing Clamp 1/4″ Tubing Ferrule (sleeve) SmartConnect™ Tubing Refrigerator Connection Tubing Clamp On models using the refrigeration connection at the water valve, remove the plastic flexible cap. 1/4″ Tubing Ferrule (sleeve) Refrigerator Connection Place the compression nut and ferrule (sleeve) onto the end of the tubing as shown. On a GE SmartConnect Refrigerator Tubing kit, the nuts are already assembled to the tubing. SmartConnect™ Tubing 10 TURN THE WATER ON AT THE SHUTOFF VALVE Tighten any connections that leak. Reattach the access cover. 19 Installation Instructions INSTALLING THE WATER LINE (cont.) 11 PLUG IN THE REFRIGERATOR START THE ICEMAKER Set the icemaker power switch to the I (on) position. The icemaker will not begin to operate until it reaches its operating temperature of 15°F (-9°C) or below. It will then begin operation automatically if the icemaker power switch is in the I (on) position. Arrange the coil of tubing so that it does not vibrate against the back of the refrigerator or against the wall. Push the refrigerator back to the wall. NOTE: In lower water pressure conditions, the water valve may turn on up to 3 times to deliver enough water to the icemaker. 20 Safety Instructions Notes. Operating Instructions Installation Instructions Troubleshooting Tips Customer Service 21 The new high efficiency compressor runs faster and will have a higher pitch hum or pulsating sound while operating. Consumer Support Troubleshooting Tips Installation Instructions Operating Instructions Safety Instructions Normal operating sounds. The fan circulating air inside the freezer which keeps the temperatures throughout. Water dropping on the defrost heater causing a sizzling, hissing or popping sound during the defrost cycle. The flow of refrigerant through the freezer cooling coils sounds like boiling water or a gurgling noise. Cracking or popping of cooling coils caused by expansion and contraction during defrost and refrigeration following defrost. Water dripping as it melts from the evaporator and flows to the drain pan during the defrost cycle. Icemaker (on some models) The icemaker water valve will buzz when the icemaker fills with water. If the power switch is in the l (on) position, it will buzz even if it has not yet been hooked up to water. Keeping the power switch in the l (on) position before it is hooked up to water can damage the icemaker. To prevent this, set the power switch to the O (off) position. This will stop the buzzing. These sounds are normal and are due mostly to highly efficient operation. The sound of cubes dropping into the bin and water running in pipes as icemaker refills.
