READ THIS MANUAL THROUGHOUT BEFORE USING THE MACHINE
This handbook forms an integral part of the machine and should be kept with it throughout its working life.
The machine includes dangerous electrically live and moving parts, which can cause serious damages to
persons or property in case of:
- incorrect use
- removal of guards or disconnection of safety devices
- poor inspection and servicing
- tampering with the electric system
These directions must be completed and updated according to applicable legal provisions and technical safety
standards.
The manufacturer may not be held responsible for failures, breaks or accidents resulting from incorrect use
of the machine or failure to follow the directions

1.1 IDENTIFICATION OF THE MACHINE
Uncapping machine designed for cutting off the cappings on D.B. standard and Langstroth frames (also
referred to as super frames/supers) with or without Hoffmann spacer, using electrically heated serrated knives
on a chain conveyor.

1.3 MACHINE OPERATORS
CAUTION! FOR SAFETY PURPOSES, THIS MACHINE SHOULD BE USED BY SKILLED STAFF ONLY, AWARE
OF THE INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED IN THIS MANUAL WHICH FORMS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE
MACHINE.
The uncapping machine has been designed for operation by a single worker.
Basic technical and mechanical skills are required to correctly operate the machine and carry out maintenance
and basic servicing.
1.4 DIRECTIONS / RECOMMENDED AND NOT RECOMMENDED USE
For efficient machine operation, the frame wood thickness must be constant and the use of spacers is
recommended if the frames are not fitted with an Hoffman spacer.
The frames should not have any protruding parts e.g. nails.
We recommend using supers with spacers at least one notch down from the hive frame number (e.g. for a
10-frame beehive, use supers with 9 frames or better still, 8 frames).
This machine should be exclusively used for uncapping frames.
1.5 HANDLING / TRANSPORT
The uncapping machine cannot be lifted or handled manually by a single person. The machine can be
transported unpacked or in suitable packing (e.g. wooden crate).
Transport is normally carried out by appointed forwarders on the customer's own responsibility.
During transport, the crate containing the machine must be firmly secured with ropes or cables to prevent it
moving about.
The machine can be handled with lift trucks or pallet trucks.
The machine weighs approximately 49 kg, the lifting equipment must therefore be of adequate capacity.

Remove the protective plexiglass shield
(figure 2), from the left side of the
machine.
Loosen the two bolts that secure the
two levers to the knives shaft.
Adjust the knifes opening until the
required cutting thickness is achieved
then tighten up to secure the bolts.
Replace the protective shield.

To facilitate centering the knives, the position “0”
relative to the knife shaft axle is marked on the lever (see
figure 2.1).

Before plugging the uncapping machine into a line power socket,
make sure that the main switch (fig. 1 B-C) is set to 'O' (as shown in
fig. 1) and that the key is NOT inserted on the panel to the left of the
machine.
Plug the DV2 uncapping machine into a power socket.
Make sure that the mushroom-head emergency button on the right of
the control panel, has not been operated.

Turn the main switch (fig. 1 B) to the right.
Control knife heating by actuating the selector switch
‘RISCALDAMENTO INSERITO’ ('Heating’ (fig. 1 E) then wait a few
seconds to allow the knives to heat up to the pre-set temperature.
Set the thermostat (fig. 1 D) as illustrated in paragraph ‘4.0
Thermoregulator operating instructions’ of this manual.
The default temperature – which has been found on average correct
– is 80/90°C.

SAFETY STANDARD OPERATION
(key on the left not inserted, key on the right rotated to the left – step by step mode with two buttons
Press and hold down both the cycle start button (fig. 1 A) and that on the left control panel.
The chain continues to move forward (step by step operation) as long as the buttons are pressed and held down.
It is also possible to load the frames after the uncapping machine has been started, in a continuous manner.
If a frame gets stuck, turn the main switch (fig. 1 C) to the left.
Hold down the ‘start cycle’ green button on the left of the machine (fig.1.1) so that the frame moves back,
then re-place the frame correctly.
To stop the uncapping machine, turn the main switch (fig. 1 C) to its 0 position.
NONNON-STANDARD OPERATION
OPERATION 1 – FOR THE MAINTENAN
MAINTENANCE STAFF ONLY
(key on the left inserted and rotated, key on the right rotated to the left – step by step mode with one button
only
Press and hold down only the cycle start button on the right (fig. 1 A).
By rotating the speed selector (fig. 1 B) to the right, the machine will operate in the FORWARD mode; by rotating the
selector to the left (fig. 1 C) the chain will move in the opposite direction in the continuous operation mode.
NONNON-STANDARD OPERATION 2 – FOR THE MAINTENANCE STAFF ONLY
(key on the left inserted and rotated, key on the right rotated to the right – continuous operation mode
By rotating the speed selector (fig. 1 B) to the right, the machine will work in the continuous FORWARD mode; by
rotating the selector to the left (fig. 1 C) the chain will move in the opposite direction in the continuous operation mode.
In case of danger, push the emergency button on the right of the control panel.
The emergency stop shall prevail over all other functions
functions and operations.

4.0 THERMOREGULATOR OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
The thermoregulator on the control panel, is fitted with a display and has four control keys.
A few seconds after plugging the DV2 into a line power socket, the display will show the knife temperature.
By pressing ‘SET’ the pre-set maximum allowed temperature is shown on the display.
To change this value, press SET (C) and then the arrow up key (A) to increase the temperature or the arrow
down key (B) to decrease it.

5.0 MAINTENANCE
CAUTION! MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT AFTER STOPPING THE MACHINE AND
DISCONNECTING ELECTRIC POWER.
No special maintenance is required.
The machine should be washed with warm water and mild detergents of the type commercially available for
stainless steel, if necessary.
Do not in any case clean the machine with steam jets.
CAUTION!
1) BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN HANDLING THE KNIFE BLADES, E.G. DURING WASHING.
2) DO NOT DIRECT WATER JETS TOWARDS ELECTRICAL PARTS.
If you expect not to use the machine for a prolonged period of time, check the state of repair of its mechanical
parts and carry out any required checking, replacement or maintenance to ensure that the machine will be
ready for use upon the next power-on.
Before periods of prolonged inactivity, coat the chromium plated parts of the machine with a thin film of
paraffin oil and then cover the machine with a tarpaulin.

5.1 CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT
Adjusting the clutch is an extremely easy
operation enabling to calibrate in an ideal way,
according to different operator requirements, the
pulling force of the frame conveyor chain.
Too 'tight' a clutch adjustment may cause
problems and could even break some frames
when they are fed on between blades.
Conversely, too 'loose' a clutch adjustment would
prevent uncapping as the frame would stop every
time that even a minor obstacle is encountered.
By using a size 4 Allen wrench, undo the 4
screws securing the round teflon guard on the
rear of the control panel.
By using two no. 22 spanners, unlock the lock
nut and tighten or loosen the nut until the right
adjustment is obtained, then re-tighten the lock
nut to fix the whole assembly. Replace the
guard before restarting the machine.
