RI-R44 / RI-R44-485 INSULATION CONTROL RELAY
Introduction
RI-R44 (-485) is a device that allows the insulation monitoring to earth of AC networks up to 440V isolated (IT
systems). By applying a DC component measure signal between the insulated line and earth it’s possible to control
the insulation resistance by detecting the generated leakage current.
The TRIP (red) and ALARM (yellow) LED are used to identify the status of the instrument:
- Yellow LED turned on indicates an insulation lower than the Alarm threshold but higher than the Trip threshold
- Red LED turned on and relay activated indicate an insulation lower than the Trip threshold
The Trip threshold can be set by dip-switch while the Alarm threshold is set, for default, at 200% of Trip threshold
(via communication port it’s possible to modify it).
Via switch is possible to select the automatic or manual (with frontal button) RESET.
If the measured value is higher than TRIP threshold and lower than ALARM threshold, a RESET, after a TRIP
status, will deactivate the relay and will turn off the red led while the yellow led will remain turned on.
WARNING!
Read carefully the manual before the installation.
These instruments must be installed by qualified personnel to avoid damage to persons or things.
Disconnect the power supply before to work on the instrument.
The manufacturer has not responsibility for electrical safety in the event of improper use of the device.

TRIP relay normally energized.
Reset mode - Micro-switch [3]
MAN = manual reset with frontal button. AUTO-RESET = automatic reset.
Validation tripping time of the TRIP relay - Micro-switch [4]
0 = typical tripping time 1÷2,5 sec. 5sec = typical tripping time plus 5 seconds.
In the time selected the insulation value must remain below the threshold value set.

ON/DATA LED [7]: It indicates the presence of the auxiliary power supply and the eventual activity on the Modbus
RTU communication interface (the led switch off for a short time to each answer from the device).
TRIP LED [8]: If it’s turned on indicates an insulation level lower than the threshold set and the tripping of the TRIP
relay.
ALARM LED [9]: The light turned on and fixed indicates an insulation level under the alarm threshold (default:
200% of the TRIP threshold). If the light flashes, it indicates an insulation higher than the maximum measureable
(function normally disabled and that can be activated by the communication port).
TEST button [10]: The pressure of the key for 2/3 seconds simulates an insulation value equal to 0 for a time of
approximately 3 seconds in the way to test the functioning of the instrument (switching on the red and yellow LED;
tripping relay).
RESET button [11]: It is used for resetting the relay after the tripping and for the turning off of the alarm visual
signals.
