Optical smoke detectors detect smoke. They are not suitable for fi res that generate very little smoke.

Dust from a workshop or garage and steam from a bathroom or kitchen can fi ll the smoke chamber and lead to false alarms. The proper type of detector in this case is a heat detector or raise of heat detector, which trigger an alarm above a certain temperature (e.g.: 60°) or a certain rise in temperature

(e.g.: 5° in three minutes).

Draughts from open windows, air shafts and fans can prevent the smoke from reaching the optical chamber of the detector.

In this case, the detector will not trigger the alarm.

The ABUS fl ood is a technical detector. It reacts to water and other liquids. As soon as the detector‘s sensors come into contact with water, it sounds the alarm via an integrated siren. This allows damage caused by broken pipes or burst water hoses from washing machines to be detected so that quick action can be taken to prevent the damage.

Optical smoke detectors must not be installed at the highest point in a building with a pointed roof. The reason for this is: The warm air that rises from the rooms will form a warm cushion of air and the smoke will not reach the detector.
