2/Scope. Ohio Medical Pediatric ISU, ISU

The ISU and Pediatric ISU are vacuum regulators that provide either intermittent or continuous suction. They are used for NG (intermittent) or pharyngeal/tracheal (continuous) suctioning throughout the hospital. The Pediatric ISU has a maximum vacuum limit of 135 mmHg (18.0 kPa), which can be adjusted between 80 and 150 mmHg (10.7 and 20.0 kPa).

What is the difference between the ISU and the Pediatric ISU?

The Pediatric ISU has a limited vacuum setting and a low gauge for use with infants and small children.

How do I adjust the suction level?

Turn the mode selector knob to | (CONT) and rotate the suction control knob until the vacuum gauge indicates the required setting.

How do I adjust the timing cycles?

The timing cycles can be adjusted using the timing valves. The adjustment procedures are outlined in Section 8.6 Timing Cycle Adjustment of this manual.

What is the pre-use checkout procedure?

The pre-use checkout procedure must be performed before using the ISU on each patient. It involves testing the regulator for correct operation, including checking the gauge reading, suction level, and timing cycles.

How do I clean and sterilize the ISU?

The ISU can be cleaned with a solution of warm water and mild detergent. The only acceptable method of sterilization is with gas (ethylene oxide). Do not steam autoclave or liquid sterilize the ISU.
