Advanced Settings

:: Setup Menu Overview

Setup Menu Categories

The Setup Menu includes advanced options for your R6540 DVD

Recorder. The factory default settings are appropriate for the majority of users.

Setup Menu Navigation

The following buttons are used to display and navigate within the

Setup menu:

Press to enter and exit the Setup menu.

Press to select and change menu items.

Press to select and change menu items. is often used to return to the previous menu.

Press to confirm your selections.

:: Language Settings

Use to set your preferred language for on-screen menus, DVD disc menus, audio soundtracks and subtitles:

Press Setup.

Use the / buttons to select Language and press Play /Enter.

Choose from the following:

On-Screen/Menu Language

Sets your preferred language for the DVD Recorder’s on-screen displays and setup menus.

• Use the / buttons to select On-Screen and press Play /Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select English (default), Español or

Français and press Play /Enter.

Disc Menu Language

Sets your preferred language for DVD disc menus:

• Use the / buttons to select Disc Menu and press Play /Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select English, Spanish, French, or

Default (the disc’s default language) and press Play /Enter.

• Languages vary from disc to disc. The disc itself may override your selection.

Audio Language/Format

Sets your preferred language for DVD audio soundtracks:

• Use the / buttons to select Audio and press Play /Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select English, Spanish, French, or

Default (the disc’s default language) and press Play /Enter.

• Languages vary from disc to disc. The disc itself may override your selection.

Subtitle Language

Sets your preferred language for DVD subtitles:

• Use the / buttons to select Subtitle and press Play /Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select English, Spanish, French, Off, or

Default (the disc’s default language), and press Play /Enter.

• The default setting is OFF.

• Subtitles vary from disc to disc. The disc itself may override your selection.

:: Tuner/Video Settings

Use to search for channels and set your video output settings.

Press Setup.

Use the / buttons to select Tuner/Video and press Play /

Enter.

Choose from the following:

Antenna/Cable

Indicates how you receive incoming channels:

• Use the / buttons to select Antenna/Cable and press Play /

Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select Antenna or Cable, whichever you have connected to the ANTENNA IN jack on the back panel of

Channel Search

Automatically searches for channels:

• Use the / buttons to select Channel Search and press Play /

Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select Confirm (or Cancel) and press

Play /Enter.

• The DVD Recorder will search for all channels in your area and add them to your master channel list.

Add/Delete Channels

Allows you to add or delete channels from your master channel list:

• Use the / buttons to select Add/Del CH and press Play /

Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select the channel you wish to add or delete and press Play /Enter.

TV Aspect Ratio

Sets your preferred aspect ratio for DVD movies:

• Use the / buttons to select TV Aspect and press Play /Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select from the following:

16:9 Widescreen

Select if you have a widescreen 16:9 television.

4:3 Letterbox

Select if you have a standard 4:3 television and prefer to watch widescreen versions of DVD movies (if available). Movies will display in letterbox format; i.e., black bars will appear above and below the picture.

4:3 Fullscreen

(Default) Select if you have a standard 4:3 television and prefer to watch full-screen versions of DVD movies (if available). The movie will be formatted to fill the entire screen.

• Press Play /Enter to confirm your selection.

Video Output

Sets the Video Output to match the method you used to connect the

DVD Recorder to your TV.

• Use the / buttons to select Video Output and press Play /

Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select from the following:

Video & S-Video

(Default) Select if you connected the DVD player to your TV using the Composite Video or S-Video output.

Component

Select if you connected the DVD player to your TV using the

Component Video output. If you select Component, you also have

the option of selecting Interlaced or Progressive Scan (see “Output

Format” on page 42).

• Press Play /Enter to confirm your selection.

Output Format

Sets the Component Video Output to standard Interlace or Progressive

Scan.

• Use the / buttons to select Output Format and press Play /

Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select from the following:

Interlace

(Default) Select if your TV does not accept Progressive Scan input.

Progressive

Select if your TV accepts a Progressive Scan input for superior video quality. This option will only be available if you set Video

Output to Component; see page 41.

• Press Play /Enter to confirm your selection.

Modulator Output

Sets the Modulator Output channel to 3 or 4. This is the channel your

TV uses to view the DVD Recorder when using the Antenna Out con-

nection; see page 13.

• Use the / buttons to select Modulator Output and press Play

/Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select Off, Channel 3, or Channel 4.

• Select Off if you are using the Line Out connection and want the

Antenna input signal to pass through to your TV.

• Press Play /Enter to confirm your selection.

• Be sure to set your TV to the same channel you selected above.

:: Clock/System Settings

Use to set the clock, parental controls and other system settings.

Use the / buttons to select Clock/System and press Play /

Enter.

Choose from the following:

Set Clock

Sets the DVD Recorder’s internal clock (important for accurate timer recordings):

• Use the / buttons to select Set Clock and press Play /Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select hours, minutes, month, day, and year.

• Use the / buttons to set each of the above items.

• Press Play /Enter to save.

• Press Clear to exit without saving.

Ratings

Enables a password-protected rating system to block playback of discs with objectionable material:

• Use the / buttons to select Ratings and press Play /Enter.

• Enter a 5-digit password and press Play /Enter. NOTE: If this is the first time you have used the player, you must enter the original factory password (“99999”), before you can enter your own personal password.

• Store your password in a safe place so you can recall it later.

• You will be prompted to enter your password again to confirm.

• Use the / buttons to select the desired rating (from 1-Kids

Safe to 8-Adult).

• Press Play /Enter to confirm your selection.

Password

Sets or changes the password for the Ratings feature:

• Use the / buttons to select Password and press Play /Enter.

• Enter a 5-digit password and press Play /Enter. NOTE: If this is the first time you have used the player, you must enter the original factory password (“99999”), before you can enter your own personal password.

• Store your password in a safe place so you can recall it later.

• You will be prompted to enter your password again to confirm.

Screen Saver

Enables or disables Screen Saver:

• Use the / buttons to select Screen Saver and press Play /

Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select On or Off.

• If you select On, the DVD+RW icon will appear whenever the unit is left alone for several minutes to protect your TV screen.

Angle Mark

Enables or disables Angle Marks during DVD playback:

• Use the / buttons to select Angle Mark and press Play /

Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select On or Off.

• If you select On, a camera icon will appear on screen whenever an alternative angle is available during DVD playback.

Factory Reset

Resets all Setup menu options to their original settings.

• Use the / buttons to select Factory Reset.

• Use the / buttons to select Confirm or Cancel. If you select

Confirm all custom settings will be lost and the DVD Recorder

will restart in Initial Setup mode, see page 14.

:: Disc Media Settings

Use to finalize a DVD+R disc or erase a DVD+RW disc. Only available when a DVD+R/+RW is loaded.

Use the / buttons to select Disc Media and press Play /

Enter.

Choose from the following:

Finalize DVD+R

Finalizes a DVD+R disc so it will play in most DVD players.

• Use the / buttons to select Finalize.

• Use the / buttons to select Confirm (or Cancel). If you select

Confirm, the DVD+R will be closed to further recording and will be compatible with most DVD players.

Erase DVD+RW

Erases a DVD+RW disc so it can be recorded over again.

• Use the / buttons to select Erase.

• Use the / buttons to select Confirm (or Cancel). If you select

Confirm, the DVD+RW will be erased.

:: Recording Settings

Use to set the default recording quality and Auto Chapter setting.

Use the / buttons to select Recording.

Recording Quality

Sets the default quality level for DVD recording:

• Use the / buttons to select Quality and press Play /Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select from the following:

HQ - 1 hr.

Select for High Quality mode (comparable to DVD quality)

SP - 2 hrs.

Select for Standard Play mode

LP - 3 hrs.

Select for Long Play mode (comparable to S-VHS quality)

EP - 4 hrs.

Select for Extended Play mode

SLP - 6 hrs.

Select for Super Long Play mode (comparable to VHS quality).

• Press Play /Enter to confirm your selection.

Auto Chapter

Enables Auto Chapter mode, where the DVD Recorder will automatically create new Chapters on your DVD+R/+RW every 5 minutes during recording.

• Use the / buttons to select Auto Chapter and press Play /

Enter.

• Use the / buttons to select On or Off and press Play /Enter.
