Printing the Test Patterns

Using the operator panel, there are two test patterns you can generate to check the operation of the printer:

Color pattern verifies color and font generation

Font pattern verifies font generation and print style

To print the test patterns, you must be automatically feeding paper. Make sure the paper selection lever is set to the back.

Use letter-size or A4-size paper when printing the test patterns. If you attempt to print on a smaller sheet, ink will get on the platen. If this happens, see Chapter 6, Maintaining the

Printer, for a description of how to clean the platen.

Color Pattern

Starting

To start the color pattern, follow these steps:

1. Turn off the printer.

2. Make sure paper is loaded.

3. Press and hold the FF button, and press the POWER button until the printer beeps.

4. When the POWER lights starts to flash, release both buttons.

When the POWER light stops flashing, the printer starts to print the color pattern.

The color pattern is one page. The following sample shows part of the pattern:

Suspending

To suspend printing of the pattern, press the ON LINE button. You can press it again to resume printing.

Stopping

To stop printing the color pattern, press the POWER button to turn off the printer. The printer stops printing and ejects the current sheet of paper.

Font Pattern

You can print the font pattern in both printer control modes: Epson LQ mode or BJ-10 mode. The printer prints all characters in the available print styles and pitches.

Starting

To start the font pattern, follow these steps:

1. Turn off the printer.

2. Make sure paper is loaded.

3. Press and hold the PRINT MODE button, and press the POWER button until the beeps.

4. When the POWER light starts to flash, release both buttons.

When the POWER light stops flashing, the printer starts to print the font pattern.

In Epson LQ mode (DIP switch 11 is on), the font pattern looks like this:

In BJ-10 mode (DIP switch 11 is off), the font pattern looks like this:

Suspending

To suspend printing of the pattern, press the ON LINE button. You can press it again to resume printing.
