4. SETUP FLOW FOR PRINTING FEATURES
Setup Flow for Microsoft Windows Workstation
This equipment supports USB printing, LPR printing, SMB printing, Peer-to-Peer printing, and IPP printing for Windows computers. The required configurations are different for each printing system.
- If the equipment is connected using a USB cable, set up USB printing.
"Setup Flow for USB Printing" Page 35
- If the equipment is connected in the network but you are not sure which printing system you will use, choose the proper printing system according to operating systems of clients in your network:
- For Windows 98/Me: SMB Printing or Peer-to-Peer Printing

- It assumes using SMB printing in a small network. If you can use the Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000,
Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003 as a print server, it is recommended to set up for printing via
Windows print server.

Setup Flow for Peer-to-Peer Printing
This equipment provides the Peer-to-Peer Utility that enables a peer-to-peer connection over the TCP/IP network. The Peer-to-Peer Utility allows users to add a Peer-to-Peer TCP/IP port by searching the equipment in the local area network. If an administrator does not allow printer sharing in a Microsoft network, (that means that the SMB print service is disabled), he can permit users to connect to this equipment using the Peer-to-Peer Utility.

Setup Flow for IPP Printing
This equipment can be used with the IPP printer connection for Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows
Server 2003, and in a TCP/IP network. Even though IPP printing can be used in the local area network, this method is commonly used to print over the Internet. If you allow IPP printing through the Internet, you must configure the DNS server to enable users to access this equipment over the Internet using the HTTP protocol.
This is useful when users want to print to this equipment from outside the local area network.

Setup Flow for Printing via Windows Print Server
When you want to manage all print jobs in the print server instead of directly printing to this equipment, the
Microsoft’s Client Server network solution is helpful. In this case, an administrator sets up the sharing printer using LPR printing in Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Server 2003. Then clients can install the printer driver from the Windows print server using SMB printing.
