Controlling the TV with the
Supplied Remote
You can control your TV (Sony only) with the supplied remote.
Controlling TVs with the remote
You can control the TV by using following buttons.

Using the THEATRE SYNC
Function
THEATRE SYNC allows you to turn on your
Sony TV and this system, changes the system mode to “DVD,” and then switches the TV’s input source you set with one button push.
Preparing for the THEATRE
SYNC function
Register the TV’s input source connected to this system.
Press and hold TV INPUT* while entering
the code for the TV’s input source connected to this unit (see the table) using the number buttons.
* Functions as both TV INPUT and DISPLAY button.
The TV’s input source is selected.
Set your TV’s input to the input you used to connect the unit. For details, see the operating instructions of your TV.

Operating the THEATRE SYNC function
Point the remote to the direction of TV and this unit, then press THEATRE SYNC once.
If this function does not work, change the transmit time. The transmit time varies depending on the TV.
To change the transmit time
Press and hold TV CH +* while entering the
code for transmit time (see the table) using the number buttons.
The transmit time from the remote is selected.
* Functions as both TV CH + and PRESET + button.

Enjoying Karaoke
You can enjoy karaoke (singing along with a disc) by setting the system to karaoke mode.
You can connect two microphones (not supplied) to the unit.
Setting the system to karaoke mode

Note
• Microphone sound may drop when changing discs.
• Before connecting, press MIC VOL – to set the microphone volume to minimum.
• You cannot change the sound field during karaoke mode.
• In karaoke mode, the overall volume may drop.
• If you set [TEST TONE] to [ON] (page 89) during
the karaoke mode, the karaoke mode is set to off automatically.
• Microphone sound is not output when:
– the microphone is not connected to the unit properly.
– the microphone volume is set to minimum.
Tip
• The karaoke play is performed with the audio channel
you selected using AUDIO (page 48).
Adjusting the microphone
You can adjust the microphone volume and level of the echo effect.
To adjust the microphone volume
Press MIC VOL +/– to adjust the microphone volume.
To add the echo effect
Press ECHO.
Each time you press ECHO, the echo level changes as follows:

To cancel the echo effect, select “ECHO OFF.”
Note
• If howling occurs:
– move the microphone away from the speakers.
– lower the microphone volume or echo level.
– lower the overall volume.
Dolby Digital Karaoke format
(DVD only)
Dolby Digital format, which reproduces surround sound using 5 channels, can also contain the “Dolby Digital Karaoke” format which is specialized for karaoke. In the Dolby
Digital Karaoke format discs, guide melody and guide vocal tracks are recorded in addition to the accompaniment. You can select them when the system is in karaoke mode.

Changing the key of a song
(Key Control)
You can change the key to suit your vocal range, except when the system is in stop mode.
Press KEY CON # or 2 to suit your vocal
range in karaoke mode.
You can adjust the key higher or lower in

• Depending on the discs, you may not be able to change the key.
• The key automatically returns to the original key when:
– you turn off the power.
– you change the function.
– the disc tray is opened.
– you stop playback.
– the title or track changes.
– you change the album.
– the play item is changed during PBC playback.

– you cancel karaoke mode.
Playing karaoke with any stereo disc (Karaoke Pon)
You can enjoy karaoke with a stereo-recorded disc, even if it is a non-karaoke disc, by reducing the sound of the vocals.
Press KARAOKE PON in karaoke mode.
To cancel Karaoke Pon mode
Press KARAOKE PON again.
Note
• This function may not work well in the following cases:
– Only a few instruments are playing
– A duet is playing
– The vocals on the disc deviate from the center
– Monaural-recorded discs (the accompaniment is also reduced)
– Multiplex
• During Karaoke Pon mode, the stereo effect is reduced.
• Karaoke Pon mode is automatically canceled when:
– you turn off the power.
– you change the function.
– the disc tray is opened.
– AUDIO stream is changed.
– you set [VOCAL SELECT] to other than [OFF].
– you cancel karaoke mode.
Selecting the vocals (Vocal
Select)
(DVD VIDEO, VIDEO CD, CD only)
When playing a DVD with the Dolby Digital
Karaoke format in karaoke mode, you can turn on or off the guide vocal recorded in the karaoke track.
When playing a VIDEO CD/CD in karaoke mode, you can listen to the vocals.
You can also change the guide vocal channel.
You can select different kinds of vocals.

Selecting the scoring mode
(Score Mode)
When karaoke mode is turned on, you can use the scoring mode.
Your score is calculated by comparing your voice with the music source.

• The highest score is reset when the system is turned off.
• The score mode function may be canceled when certain remote buttons are pressed.
• In some cases, you may not be able to use the scoring mode.
Tip
• The [SCORE MODE] setting is automatically changed to [EASY] when the system is turned off.

Using the Sound Effect
Reinforcing bass frequencies
You can reinforce bass frequencies.
Press DYNAMIC BASS.
Bass frequencies are effectively reinforced.
To turn off the sound effect
Press DYNAMIC BASS again.
Using the Sleep Timer
You can set the system to turn off at a preset time, so you can fall asleep listening to music.
You can preset the time in 1 or 10-minutes increments.

Available DIGITAL MEDIA PORT adapters vary in each area.

• Do not connect an adaptor other than the DIGITAL
MEDIA PORT adapter.
• Do not connect or disconnect the DIGITAL MEDIA
PORT adapter to/from the unit while the system is turned on.
• Depending on the type of DIGITAL MEDIA PORT adapter (not supplied), the images are also output. In this case, the system outputs the composite video signal only regardless of the type of video signal.
Playing the connected component on the system

Deactivating the Buttons on the Unit
(Child Lock)
You can deactivate the buttons on the unit
(except for "/1) for preventing misoperation, such as child mischief (child lock function).
When the child lock function is activated, the buttons on the unit are locked and “ ” lights up in the front panel display. (You can operate the system by using the remote.)

• When you operate the buttons on the unit while the child lock function is on, “CHILD LOCK” appears in the front panel display.
