Otter has a handy fold out shower stall that will be shown to you at orientation.
GALLEY SYSTEMS
Propane Stove/Oven
The galley has a three burner gimbaled propane stove with oven. It is fueled from a propane tanks located in a locker on the starboard deck. The manual valve on the top of the tank should be kept closed whenever the stove is not in use. When opening the valve, turn until it is all the way open and just snug, otherwise gas may seep around the valve stem. Therefore, the tank valve should be turned off prior to retiring for the evening, while cruising, and upon returning the boat at the end of your charter.
To turn the propane on:
1. Check to see burners and oven are turned off.
2. Turn on the propane tank valve.
3. Turn on the circuit breaker switch marked “LPG” on the electrical panel.
To light the burners:
1. Turn burner knob on and continue to hold the knob in while pushing the spark button or clicking the handheld butane lighter to light the burner. (Should the burner not light, be certain that you push the knob in as you turn it back off).
2. Continue to hold the knob in for 10 to 15 seconds, as it needs to warm the thermo-coupler before it will stay lit to avoid gas leakage.
To light the oven or broiler:
1. Push and turn the oven/broiler knob to the desired position. Hold the red button in while clicking the handheld butane lighter to light the broiler or oven. Hold the red button in for 10 to 15 seconds, as it needs to warm the thermo-coupler before it will stay lit to avoid gas leakage. Should the broiler or oven not light, be certain that you push the knob in as you turn it back off.
For cooking underway, the stove is gimbaled. Un-latch the base of the stove to allow it to swing freely. Relatch upon returning to dock.
After using the stove or oven:
1. Turn the propane solenoid switch off.
2. Turn the “Gas Valve” switch off on the electrical panel.
3. Close the valve on the propane tank before retiring for the evening, and at the end of your charter.
A full tank of propane normally lasts a little more than two weeks.
Refrigeration
Turn on refrigeration circuit breaker at the electrical panel. The thermostat in the freezer should always be set at “2”. The freezer is outboard of the refrigerator. Tupperware containers are left aboard for help in organizing supplies. Ice cube trays are also aboard.

Barbeque
The barbecue is mounted on the aft starboard railing. Attach a propane bottle to the regulator. Carefully light the unit with a butane lighter. The barbecue generates a lot of heat and cooks hot and fast. Please clean up the BBQ when finished using it to prevent grease and dirt from soiling the boat. Note: Propane bottles
are not stocked by AYC. You will need to purchase one if extras are not found on board.
Caution -- For safety reasons, do not store an opened propane bottle within the salon or engine compartment. Chances are these will leak slightly once opened and propane gas could settle into low spaces.
Store these bottles in the lazarette. Ensure flammable materials are not near the barbecue.
HEATING SYSTEMS
Diesel Furnace
Otter is equipped with a Dickinsen diesel forced air furnace. The furnace provides heat much like that of a wood stove (consistent and quiet). The air outlet vents are in the aft stateroom and salon. The furnace burns very little fuel and has minimal drain on the batteries.
Before using, remove the solid stainless cap on the stove pipe on the cabin top. Locate the stove pipe extension and Charlie Noble stove pipe cap in the hanging locker next to the furnace. Place these on the stove pipe.
Always use the stove pipe extension when motoring and when at dock or anchor.
Always remove the extension and use only the Charlie Noble when sailing to prevent snagging the stove pipe with the sail sheets.
One can use gloves to remove the stove pipe without shutting down the furnace. Be careful as it is hot. Place partway in the white stove pipe carrier to cool on the cabin top before returning to the locker.
To turn on furnace:
1. Turn on the power switch (up direction) to the fuel pump that feeds the furnace. It is located on the inside the hanging locker next to the furnace on the aft side of the door. This switch must be left on while using the furnace. When using the furnace, you may hear a slight clicking sound from under the seat cushion forward of the galley sink.

2. Open the furnace door on the front of the furnace by unscrewing the knob. Turn the fuel control knob to “3 “ and wait two minutes for fuel to flow into the bottom of the fire pot. Turn off the fuel switch.
3. Place five squares of toilet paper in the bottom of the fire pot in contact with the diesel fuel. Use the spiral shaped pushing tool located in the game locker aft of the hanging locker on the starboard side near the furnace.
4.
5.
Light the toilet paper in the furnace with a butane lighter (located over the microwave) and immediately close and lock the furnace door.
Turn on the fan rocker switch located on the starboard bottom side of the furnace.
Control the fan velocity with the rheostat next to the rocker switch to a gentle flow.
This will help the fuel to combust.
