The Cambridge Sensors microdot is a portable whole blood testing system that delivers quick and accurate results. It consists of three main parts: the meter, test strips, and control solutions. The meter has an LCD screen that displays blood glucose results and symbols to guide the user through testing. It also has up/down toggle buttons for scrolling through memory, setting time and date, and an eject button for releasing test strips. The test strips have a top edge where blood is applied, a white channel to check if enough blood has been applied, and contact bars that are inserted into the meter. The control solutions come in high and low concentrations and are used to validate the performance of the meter and test strips. The microdot stores the 500 most recent blood glucose and control solution test results with date and time in its memory. It also provides 14-day averages of blood glucose test results. Control solution tests should be performed whenever a new vial of test strips is opened, if the system is not working properly, or if the blood glucose test results differ from the patient's symptoms. The microdot should be used with Microdot Control Solutions and Test Strips for accurate results. The test strips should be stored at room temperature between 50-86°F (10-30°C) and should not be refrigerated or frozen.

Open manualFrequently Answers and Questions
When should a control solution test be conducted?
You should conduct a control solution test any time you open a new vial of test strips, whenever you suspect the system is not working properly, if blood glucose results differ from a resident's symptoms, if you believe results are inaccurate, if the meter is dropped, or if the test strip vial has been left open for an extended period.
What should be done if control solution test results are out of range?
First, repeat the test. If the result is still out of range, check if the vial was at room temperature, if the control solution bottle was shaken well, and if the control solution's expiration or discard date has passed. Do not test blood until control results are within the expected ranges. If issues persist, contact Customer Service.
What do 'Lo' and 'Hi' messages on the meter display indicate?
'Lo' indicates a blood glucose level lower than 20 mg/dL (severe hypoglycemia). 'Hi' indicates a blood glucose level higher than 525 mg/dL (severe hyperglycemia). In both cases, you should recheck the level and follow your facility's protocol for treating severe low or high blood sugar.
How should used lancets and test strips be disposed of?
Used lancets should be disposed of in an approved sharps container. Used test strips can be disposed of by simply pressing the eject button on the meter.
How do I clean and disinfect the Microdot Xtra Meter?
First, remove the anti-microbial meter cover. Clean the outside with a lint-free cloth dampened with soapy water or isopropyl (70%-80%). To disinfect, use a 1:10 dilution of household bleach (0.5%-0.6% sodium hypochlorite) to dampen a paper towel, then wipe the meter thoroughly, or use commercially available germicidal wipes. Be careful not to get liquid into the test strip dock or key code parts.
