The TLE7242 G and TLE8242 L are four channel pre-driver ICs designed to control proportional solenoid valves. They are used to ensure precise current control in the presence of system disturbances and varying component parameter values. The devices regulate the current flowing in the solenoid valve over a current range of 0A to 1.2A (typical when a 0.2 Ohm sense resistor is used) with 11 bit resolution. The devices also include a P-I controller with programmable gain values KP and KI. This application note describes a method for determining the KP and KI values for a given set of application conditions.
