Frequently Answers and Questions

How do I change the saw blade?
Disconnect the tool from the power source. Turn the handle clockwise to release tension on the saw blade. Remove the blade first from the pulleys and then from the blade guide. Before installing a blade, clean chips and wax that may have accumulated on blade guides and pulley tires. Insert the blade into the blade guides and then position it on the pulleys. Make sure the teeth on the left side of the machine point toward the rear of the machine. Turn the handle counterclockwise as far as it will go to place tension on the saw blade. Start and stop the saw two or three times to seat the blade on the pulleys.
What type of lubricant should I use on my band saw blade?
Never use liquid coolant with your band saw. Porter-Cable Lube Wax is available as an accessory and is recommended when cutting aluminum, brass, and thick materials. Cast iron should be cut dry. With the saw running, apply wax momentarily to both sides of the blade. Reapply wax intermittently as needed.
What happens if the wax clings to the pulleys?
After prolonged cutting, the wax will cling to the pulleys of your band saw. This does not affect the operation of the machine. Disconnect the machine from the power source and wipe the wax from the pulleys.
How do I know if I need to add lubricant to the gear chamber?
Remove the band saw blade to prevent accidental contact. Remove the oil filler plug and gasket. Stand the saw on the front pulley housing and start the motor. With the motor running, observe whether the lubricant is being carried over the top of the worm gear teeth. If not, stop the motor and add a small amount of lubricant. Repeat this process until the lubricant is carried over the top of the worm gear teeth while the motor is running. Do not overfill the gear chamber. If you do, the pressure created by the pumping action of the gears will force lubricant through the seals into the motor chamber and may cause damage to the motor as well as gear failure. Install the oil plug and gasket.
