Frequently Answers and Questions

How do I properly mix fuel for the J-501 engine?
Use Jacobsen Premium 501 Two Cycle Oil and regular grade gasoline (leaded or non-leaded). For a 6 oz. can of oil, pour the entire contents into a clean 2-1/2 gallon container and add 2.4 gallons of gas. For a 12 oz. can of oil, pour the entire contents into a clean 5 gallon container and add 4.8 gallons of gas. Shake the container vigorously after mixing and before each refill.
What maintenance should I perform on the J-501 engine?
Clean the air filter every 25 hours of operation and at the beginning of each season. Clean the air intake screen and cooling fins periodically. Clean and reset the spark plug gap at 0.040' every 100 hours of operation or prior to each season.
How do I store the J-501 engine?
Remove all fuel from the tank by removing the fuel line from the carburetor and draining it into a container. Drain the carburetor bowl by pushing up on the drain valve. Pour 2 tablespoons of oil into the cylinder, crank the engine slowly twice, and replace the spark plug.
