Frequently Answers and Questions

How does the Auto Drain operate?
The Auto Drain valve is normally closed and opens each time the steam generator drains. The valve is held closed throughout the steambath cycle and remains closed after the steambath or until the steam generator cools to about 120°F. The valve will remain open for 3 minutes total. After 2.5 minutes the water solenoid valve will open and flush the tank.
What is the purpose of the thermostatic switch?
The thermostatic switch prevents the drain from dumping boiling water. It takes approximately 6 hours for the steam generator to cool and drain after a steambath cycle.
How do I test the Auto Drain?
After all plumbing and electrical connections are made, turn the unit on and listen for the water filling. When it is full and the water stops flowing, immediately turn the unit off to prevent water from heating. The water should drain out. Observe the water draining and make sure it does not back up or splash out of the floor drain. Correct as necessary.
What are some important considerations for installing the Auto Drain?
Make sure the directional arrow on the valve points away from the steam unit. Using ½ inch pipe, connect the drain outlet to the drainage system. The pipe must be pitched down away from the steam generator; the water will drain by gravity. Do not connect the Auto Drain pipe to the steam line, Safety Relief Valve line, or to the drain pan. Be sure to follow National and Local plumbing codes.
