Frequently Answers and Questions

What is the proper procedure for starting the engine?
The engine is equipped with programmed fuel injection for starting. To start the engine, engage the emergency stop switch clip, set the remote control lever to the NEUTRAL position, turn the engine switch to the START position. After the engine starts and if the outside temperature is below 5°C (41°F), the fast idle lever/fast idle button can be used to accelerate engine warm up.
How do I shift the gears?
When shifting the gears, move the remote control lever to the forward position (i.e. approximately 30° from the NEUTRAL position) to engage the gear into forward. Further movement of the lever will increase the throttle opening and boat forward speed. For reverse, move the lever to the REVERSE position (i.e. approximately 30° from the NEUTRAL position) to engage the gear into reverse. Further movement of the lever will increase the throttle opening and boat reverse speed. For NEUTRAL, the engine power is cut off from the propeller.
What is the correct transom height for this outboard motor?
For the BFT115A/150A, there are two transom heights: 508 mm (20.0 in) and 635 mm (25.0 in). To determine the correct transom height, the anticavitation plate should be 0 – 25 mm (0 – 1 in) below the bottom of the boat. The water level must be at least 100 mm (4 in) above the anticavitation plate, otherwise, the water pump may not receive sufficient cooling water, and the engine will overheat.
