Edge 580

PN 1143-0041-04 - All plastics version

PN 1143-0041-06 - All materials version

Due to the frequent changes in optical fashion an edger of the superior range of optical machinery has to be versatile. With this aim

WECO has advanced the well approved edger much further to adapt it to the increasing demands of nowadays markets. The focus was set on the individual processing of highly curved wrap lenses as well as the drilling function.

The new Edge 580 is not only an extension to predecessor regarding functionality but offers as well a way higher operating speed that brings the machine close to an industrial edging center without any deduction when it comes to quality and precision!

Key features of WECO Edge 580

> Special bevel program for Hi-curve lenses

> Handy additional features in drilling mode

> Optimized timing in operation makes it fast

> Mini-bevel for best fi tting precision and esthetic appearance of thin frames

> Auto program for Chemistrie® solar clips

> Extensive range of feasible applications

Special program for high curve lenses

With its specially shaped diamond wheel it is now possible to alter the appearance of the bevel by setting the bevel backside lowering individually. The amount of reduction can be applied individually for every point of the lens outline in a comprehensive screen. So you can adapt the bevel to your frames’ demands to achieve a good fi t even on highly curved wrap frames. The bevel is sharper by 20° in comparison to a standard bevel what leads to a tight fi t in the frame groove whereas the backside of the bevel is extended to allow an easy mounting even with thicker temple parts.

> New diamond wheel with a dedicated Hi base profi le

> Angle of the bevel backside adjustable individually in every point before edging for perfect fi tting

> Comprehensive screen preview and esthetic smoothing of the lenti chamfer for a perfect result

Optimized edging cycle time

With the optimized cycles in edging and measuring and grace to a faster wheel speed we are now able to present to you an edger that can be used very effi ciently and prolifi cally. The measurement cycle before the roughing can be omitted to speed up the cycle time. With an advanced drive technology and a newly developed diamond wheel your valuable time is saved that you can use for your customers. The advanced and improved processes facilitate your work fl ow in the lab a lot and increase effi ciency. Further it offers:

> High speed due to optimized processes

> Faster machining achieved by new edging technology

> Optimized measuring cycle increases precision and productivity

Useful additional functions for drilling

The newly designed electric WECO drill unit allows drilling optical lenses under an angle to achieve a good fi t in the rimless mounting parts. Therefore even lenses with a high curve can be drilled precisely directly inside the machine without any possible errors by swapping the lens into as separate drill-center. Additional plotting info can be done beforehand on the CAD blocker in a big, comprehensive screen. The angle to be drilled is then derived from the hole co-ordinates of the job and the lens curve that was felt by the machine. Like this, the lenses can be mounted without any manual post processing. With great ease you can process holes, slot-holes, oblongs, notches and blind holes. In case the need of a post processing arises, the drilling process can be redone with a different diameter at a fi ngertip. The drilling co-ordinates can be displayed and altered directly at the edger so that the peripherals remain available for other jobs and that there’s no need to call the job again on another device. The result is a perfectly machined rimless job – exactly what your customers expect from you.

> Drilling perpendicular to front and back surface

> Drilling perpendicular to a given lens curve

> Up to 20 co-ordinates per side.

> Holes, slots, oblongs and notches can be done as holes or blind holes

> Individual post processing of the holes on the edger’ screen menu at a fi ngertip

> Receipt of the Drilling plan by VCA/OMA protocol from any host possible

Mini-bevel for highest fi tting precision

With the edge 580 all lenses are being measured individually.

Therefore, not on any lens all the measurements are taken, already in the beginning a decision is taken which fi gures are needed in this specifi c job confi guration. Besides the standard bevel programs there is a manual bevel program available, that allows you to manipulate the bevel position In any point of the lens shape and to gain the full control of the bevel before touching your precious lens.

Even more, a mini-bevel is available in every program. It reduces the bevel size and gives you a higher precision when mounting the lens into the frame. It also avoids the formation of a whitish ring around the lens on thin frames that is visible when you place a standard bevel into small frames.

> Standard bevel programs

> Individual placement of the bevel in anual mode

> Mini-bevel with adjustable facet size for perfect fi t and esthetic appearance

Chemistrie™ Sunlens function

The popular Chemistrie™ magnetic sunlens technology uses small magnets embedded in the lens to attach the sun lens to the prescription lens utilizing Eyenavision’s patented technology. Briot has developed special software that guides the operator step-by-step through the processes to create Chemistrie™ Sunlenses on the Edge 580.

This straight forward user interface makes it easy for the operator to achieve excellent results. Lenses are permanently magnetized through the placement of miniature magnets that enable the layering of base-curved matched lenses for sun protection or for refractive use. Features and benefi ts of the software include:

> Simplifi ed user interface.

> Default settings to ensure accurate placement and depth of the magnets.

> Archiving of RX and Sunlens jobs for easy reproductions.

Highest Quality Technology for High Base Curves

PN 1114-0511-31

16

Precise Tracing as a basis for precise Edging

The quality of the edging result of a spectacle lens is directly related to the tracing of the frame. Due to the continuously changing styles in fashion and in frame materials, the demands on scanning increase. On the one hand frames should not be distorted, on the other hand the tracing stylus must always stay inside the frame groove. Consistent tracing pressure, based purely on gravity force, makes the Trace 2 HC the most accurate and precise tracer.

The fast growing remote edging segment requires the most reliable and precise tracer. The Trace 2 HC consistently and precisely captures not only the shapes of frames, patterns and demo lenses fully automatic, but lets you replicate the results time and time again. Frames are traced using threedimensional technology, which takes into account the curve and (tilt or angle) of the frame and detects the width o the bridge – even for extreme shapes.

And of course, data transfer to your host software and software of different lens manufacturers is standard.

Intelli-Stylus - the solution for high base curves

For the most highly curved frames, to remain accurate is a big challenge. Weco took its already proven technology to the next level

– The Trace 2 HC. The Intelli-Stylus, due to our unique patented

Floating Technology reproduces the most extreme shapes, even for highly curved frames and shallow grooves. Finally a technology that easily lets you trace both sides of a high-base curve frame.

> Trace both sides of frames with high base curves

> Automatic detection of the bridge size

> Stability due to double guided stylus

> Consistent tracing pressure minimizes distortion.

Advantages at a glance

> Trace both sides of frames with high base curves

> Tracing of small b-sizes down to 17 mm

> Reliability and stability based on long time experience

> Replicability due to self-calibration

> Proven clamping technology for delicate frames

> Small footprint

> Low maintenance

CAD III

The sole CNC centring system without system and parallax error!

PN 1112-0011-00

The CAD III is the computer-centring device for high-precision and reliable blocking of spectacle lenses of any type.

The innovative technology is an absolute technical sensation, combination with the high-resolution display. On the display the spectacle lenses and the mould are presented in upright position, the right way round and distortion-free. The centring result is identical with the centring on the monitor.

The patented Cartesian positioning of the spectacle lens retainer guarantees maximum precision in blocking, as block errors are now excluded. The gentle motorised blocking facility guarantees that your high-quality spectacle lenses will be treated carefully in blocking. With the CAD III you can rely on good results - and be sure to have satisfi ed customers, too!

Centring on the monitor

> The whole centring process is displayed on the monitor.

The subsequent centring result then corresponds to what the user can see on the monitor.

> Spectacle lens and mould are displayed in upright position, the right way up and distortion-free. The raw glass diameters and near-sight segments are identifi ed easily and reliably.

> Simple, precise and quick drilling data acquisition for drilling lenses (in system with the Edge 450 drill)

> Contrast and brightness can be adjusted variably and thus adapted to all kinds of spectacle lenses

Lens retainer

> Three specially positioned pins automatically match each rear side of a spectacle lens, thus holding the spectacle lens in a stable position

> The front surface of the spectacle lens is automatically aligned in vertical position to the block direction

> Blocking errors are therefore a thing of the past

Indispensable tool

1. binocular insight

The observer sees the spectacle lens and the mould at the same time in natural size. Movements of the head do not infl uence the centring result at all.

2. Splitting mirror

The splitting mirror combines the mould and spectacle lens. The mould and spectacle lens both appear with the same distance.

Parallax errors are therefore no longer possible.

3. LCD-monitor

The high-resolution monitor displays the mould and centring data.

The input menus are adapted to the user’s centring procedure.

4. Spectacle lens

Effect and geometry of the spectacle lenses have no more infl uence on the centring result.

5. Reference layer

The spectacle lens is automatically transported to the parallax-free layer. That makes the centring result independent of the geometry of the spectacle lens.

In the past you had to compensate these three centring errors.

If you use the CAD III the following three errors can no longer occur

(see fi gures 1 -3):

1 Parallax error

The centring result changes as a result of moving the head.

2 Projection error

Prismatic effects of the spectacle lenses lead to deviations.

3 block errors

Occur when the front surface of the spectacle lens is not vertical to the blocking direction.

Optical Trace functionality

Tracing is the fi rst step in the workfl ow of lens manufacturing and historically this measurement has been performed with a Tracer.

Optical Trace functionality offers the possibility of measuring the shape of a pattern or cut lens without a Tracer. The Optical Trace function no longer employs a mechanical stylus but instead uses a digital camera for measurement ready to be processed. The fast operation of Optical

Trace and the less mechanical distortion of the frame and lens results in increased productivity.

> For lens shape measurement

> For drill hole detection

> Fast operating time of 12 seconds

> Accuracy increases due to less operator-induced mechanical distortion

> Square shapes and bent shapes are to be perfectly represented by Cad 5

Drill-hole identifi cation

When manufacturing rimless spectacles the technician must locate the drill-hole positions. With the Cad 5 drill-hole coordinates are easily located using optical trace functionality and drillhole identifi cation.

As soon as Optical Trace is activated the drill-holes are located and displayed on the screen. Additional holes and slots can be added or removed or even varied in dimension.

> Automatically fi nds holes and slots in the lens

> Precise positioning due to zoom function

> Manual adjustment of holes

> Operator can add, move and remove holes or slots

> Operator can increase or decrease holes’ diameter

> Blind holes can be added

> Positioning accuracy within 5/100 mm.

Modifi er software

A shape modifi cation for the rimless lens is often requested by the customer. Now you can simply say, “No problem, we have the solution!” Using Cad 5’s modifi er, shape modifi cation becomes reality. An added benefi t of this advanced function is to improve the processing of progressive lenses. The Modifi er is a special function to adapt the lens shape of rimless spectacles.

To do so, several programs can be applied to adjust:

> Half height, low part of the lens - for progressive lenses

> Height only

> Width only

> Height with width adaptation

> Width with height adaptation

> Circumference radius length.

Centring

Centring of the lens is achieved automatically by built in power measurement. When processing a single vision lens, the Cad 5 performs a lens optical analysis to detect the optical centre and axis identifi cation. With bifocal lenses, the lens image analysis is performed by determining the near vision segment. Progressive lenses are processed by identifi cation of the printings.

The centring of Cad 5 is briefl y summarised:

> Centring of any type of lens

> Quick identifi cation of the centring references

> Automatic recognition of any printings

> Instantaneous and automatic centring

> Comparison of the lens diameter to the requested shape

> Power identifi cation for single vision lenses with an accuracy within ± 0.125 D.

blocking

Having centered the lens, the block is applied by the integrated blocking unit. Cad 5 employs an advanced electromagnetic block system to ensure the block is held securely in the block holder, providing very high blocking accuracy.

> Blocking of any type of lens

> Electromagnetic block for perfect blocking.

Your benefi t by progress

> Optical Trace for fast and precise shape detection

> Automatic drill hole identifi cation with higher productivity for rimless spectacles

> Modifi er to modify lens shape for rimless spectacles.

Your benefi t from profi tability

> Increase of profi tability due to less operator mistakes and damages

> Less manual operations and manipulations

> No need of a lens-meter to identify the optical lens centre and axis

Bevels

Bevels

Some explanations

28

Flexible creation of bevels

After a short rough-grinding cycle, the lens bevel is processed optionally as flat bevel, free-floating V bevel, manual V bevel or computer-controlled 3D V bevel. To control the bevel, its positioning is graphically displayed on the colour screen.

> Free-floating bevel

> Manual V bevel

> Computer-controlled 3D V bevel

Free-floating bevel

In free-floating mode the bevel reproduction, during the first revolution of the grinding wheels, is automatically memorised and all further revolutions, including re-finishing operations, are computer-controlled. This process drastically improves the bevel quality on thin lenses and extreme shapes.

Manual V bevel

The manual V bevel option is used if you wish to adapt the bevel position according to specific requirements, i.e. that the lens fits into a fancy frame.

Computer-controlled 3D V bevel

In 3D V bevel mode, the lens geometry is measured during the rough-grinding cycle. Afterwards, the bevel is ground computer controlled.

For the computer-controlled 3D bevel, a range of automatic bevel options exist: Auto-Bevel, Percentage Curve or positioning of the bevel in relation to the front or rear surface of the lens.

> Auto-Bevel

> Percentage Curve

> Positioning of the bevel in relation to the front or rear surface

> Miniature bevel

Auto-bevel

Auto-Bevel mode is an automatic option that positions the bevel, taking into account the curvature of the spectacle frame and lens.

It is often used to process lenses that are difficult to adapt.

Percentage Curve

The Percentage Curve option positions the bevel according to a direct ratio of the lens edge thickness and curvature. This option can be used for all lenses in the normal range.

Positioning of the bevel in relation to the front or rear surface. The bevel is applied at a defined distance to the front or rear surface of the lens.

Miniature bevel

An adjustable miniature bevel can be employed for use in spectacle frames with a smaller groove depth.
