SPECIFICATIONS

The main criteria in the design of collet knobs and accessories have always been function, styling, handling and simplicity of use.

Accessories, including caps, pointers, figure dials and nut covers have been designed to push-fit into the collet knob body to give added versatility.

Quality materials

All collet knobs, caps, pointers and nut covers are made from Nylon 6 and have a matte finish. The transparent figure dials are made from polycarbonate and the colored dials are of Nylon 6.

Collets, sleeves and nuts, already installed into the knobs during manufacture, are of brass. All molded parts are stable in the temperature range of -20°C to +70°C.

All knobs shown are available in black 5, or gray 6 as standard. Other colors available to special order. Please state color required.

What’s a collet knob?

How it works:

It’s very simple. The collet knob is disassembled as shown on right. The collet slides on top of the potentiometer and as the nut is tightened over the collet, the collet grips the pot 360° to insure a secure fit.

Advantages of Collet Knobs

1. Brass is used for the metalwork which retains its original state.

2. Fixing is from the top allowing access when knobs are close to each other.

3. Can easily be moved to a precise, new position on the shaft.

4. Because there is no exposed set screw the knob is electrically isolated from the pot.

Quality Materials

Material for push-on knobs, pushbuttons, 02, 03, 04 and 05 slider knobs: Nylon 6.

Material for two-piece pointer push-on knobs, double injected push-on knobs and 01 slider knobs: ABS.

Shaft configuration

Our push-on knobs have been designed to provide a simple and secure shaft attachment. The internal molding grips the shaft securely, with ‘D’ shape, splined or slotted configurations. Some

‘D’ shape shafts feature an integral metal compression ring. For full details of shaft configurations and sizes, please refer to the part numbers section on page 13.

Line positioning for flatted shafts

As standard, line printing, if required, will be in the position detailed in the drawings below. Should you require alternative line positioning, please state the location with your order. The printed line may be positioned centrally in any flute; flutes are at increments of 60° on 11mm knobs, 45° on 15mm knobs, 36° on 21mm knobs and 30° on 29mm knobs.

The 15mm bar knob is shown below in the Selco standard form, with the wings perpendicular to the shaft ‘flat’. However, the angle of the wings to the ‘flat’ of the shaft may be altered by 45° increments if required.

Trio – Three Color Control Knobs

Complementing Selco’s other Push-on knobs is Trio; a range of rotary push-on control knobs produced from a three shot molding process offering unique opportunities of color coding without additional assembly or printing.

Molded from nylon, the body has a contrasting matte textured finish, while the pointer is gloss. A wide range of standard colors are offered and custom combinations can be supplied to special order.

Selco’s facility for high-definition printing, down to a charachter height of less than 1mm, is available for those customers who require special markings on slider knobs, pushbuttons and push-on knobs. The fine, matte textured finish provides an excellent surface on which to print, permitting a high quality, durable and cost effective added feature. This facility is available to customers wishing to personalise items with a designation, instruction, logo or other legend, in any color.

Two Color and Soft Touch Push-on Knobs

In addition to our conventional range of push-on knobs, we offer more specialized items, each incorporating design features tailored to meet the changing requirements of some customers. A two shot molding process is used so that the cap/pointer is an integral part of the knob, thus avoiding subsequent assembly costs. Two color variants are molded in

A.B.S., while the soft touch knobs are of polypropylene and thermoplastic elastomer to provide a smooth velvet feel.

Slider Knobs

Selco’s slider knobs are designed and shaped to provide a stylish appearance with ease of control.

The extensive range, in a matte finish, is intended to suit the needs of both applications and users. Various materials are used depending on the design. Where nylon is specified this will match the finish of other Selco control knobs and pushbuttons molded in this material.

Likewise soft touch versions will complement the rotary push-on knobs with the same finish.

Slider knobs are available, as standard, with black body moldings but other colors are available to special order. Lines, whether printed or molded are supplied in white, as standard, but other colors are available to special order and can complement control knobs and pushbuttons, if required. Apart from the tang sizes shown, others may be able to be accommodated.
