5.1.6 Recorder

General information about Hard Disk recording.

This Digital Satellite receiver has a build-in Hard Disk (HDD). This Hard Disk is used to record and store the digital information from Digital TV-and Radio programmes. It is similar to the HDD that is used in your PC, however the data storage is different.

In order to get the maximum performance for recording we have summarized general information below:

„ It is recommended to spend some time to get familiar with the most important functions and the techniques related to HDD recording of TV and Radio programmes.

„ The storage capacity is quite large, however not unlimited. Standard the capacity is 80 GB, normally that is sufficient for about 60 hours of TV recording.

„ The real duration of recording can differ, it depends namely on the type and the data rate of the recorded programme. Radio channel recording normally allows a longer duration than

TV channel recording.

„ Note that deleting the not needed files assures you the maximum storage capacity at all times.

„ A part of the HDD capacity should remain available at all times to ensure that the Time Shift function remains available for you at all times.

„ HDD recordings can not be copied or transferred to other digital recording sources.

„ Recordings that you want to archive can be transferred and recorded on your VCR.

„ This receiver can also be used to record programmes on your VCR directly.

„ Recording is not limited to the channel that you are currently watching, it is for example possible to watch channel number 1 and record channel number 2 at the same time.

Condition however is that the programmes belong to the same “ programme bouquet ”, meaning they are transmitted via the same satellite transponder.

„ Timer recording sessions can be easily started via the Electronic Programme Guide.

„ One of the big advantages of a receiver with build in HDD is the “ time shift ” function; you can start watching a programme while that same programme is still being recorded. Or you can pause a live programme that you are watching, and proceed watching it at any later moment. The HDD has recorded the information that you missed so you won't miss any part of the programme you have been watching.

28

PART 1 z English

The 4 different ways of recording.

1. Record on demand: Push the record button and record instantly what you are watching

2. Timer Recording : Use the convenient EPG timer function to record selected programmes

3. Time Shift Recording: Allows you to pause a live programme, record it from the moment you left and proceed watching as from the moment you paused it.

4. Picture recording: You can make “ snapshots ” from running TV programmes or from Video recordings and store them on the HDD.

The details on how to use these functions will be described in the following paragraphs.

Note: Recording of copyright protected materials is only allowed for personal use. In order to avoid infringements of local laws we recommend you to check the applicable laws in your country.

„ Once you press the REC button a second time, a screen with text “ Recording ” will appear. With the LEFT/RIGHT button you can select the record duration: 30 / 60 / 120 or 180 Minutes. Confirm your selection with OK .

„ If you want to stop the recording, press the „ ( STOP ) (button. The message “ Save as ” will appear in your TV screen. The information of the recorded programme has been recorded on the HDD, once you press “ YES ” that information will be stored on the

HDD. If you select “ NO ” the recorded information will not be stored. “ Cancel ” will stop the save process and the recording will proceed.

Special functions, available during Record on demand:

„ With the (PAUSE) button you can hold the picture. The “ Pause ” symbol will appear in the left upper part of the screen to indicate that the pause function is active.

„ At any later moment you can start viewing again by pressing the (PLAY) button.

„ Since you have paused the recording during the live event, a time shift is present now.

„ By pressing the (FFW) (Fast Forwards) button you can quickly view, and catch up with the live event. (Note that during FFW playing you will not hear audio).

„ You can select different speeds during (FFW) and (RWD) by pressing the corresponding buttons more then once, speeds between 2 X - 32 X are available. The selected speed will be displayed at the left upper part of the screen.

PID

The Moving Picture Experts Group is founded by the ISO. MPEG is a standard method for digital transmission of video and audio.

A network which is also known as a bouquet is a set of channels that is offered by a single broadcaster.

Referring to the Phase Alternate Line colour system adopted by European broadcasters.

This function gives you the possibility to 'lock' other several functions of the receiver to prevent unau¬thorized users such as children to view channels that are not suitable for them. A PIN code is required to use of the parental lock.

The transmitted packages have identifiers (PID) that tells the receiver what to do with the received information. Satellite receivers normally use four types of

PID, these are V-PID (video PID), A-PID(audio PID), P-PID (Programme PID) and data PID (EPG information).
