This set employs laser. Therefore, be sure to follow carefully the instructions below when servicing.

WHEN SERVICING, DO NOT APPROACH THE LASER EXIT
WITH THE EYE TOO CLOSELY. IN CASE IT IS NECESSARY TO
CONFIRM LASER BEAM EMISSION. BE SURE TO OBSERVE
FROM A DISTANCE OF MORE THAN 30cm FROM THE
SURFACE OF THE OBJECTIVE LENS ON THE OPTICAL
PICK-UP BLOCK.
Caution: Invisible laser radiation when open and interlocks defeated avoid exposure to beam.

Body or clothes electrostatic potential could ruin laser diode in the optical block. Be sure ground body and workbench, and use care the clothes do not touch the diode.

Select the desired test mode in accordance with the requirement.
1. Status/Media Display Mode
1-1. How to Start up the Status/Media Display Mode
While pressing the DVD/CD button, connect the AC plug to the power outlet.
All of the FL displays turn on and then the test mode starts.
1-2. How to Quit the Status/Media Display Mode
Disconnect the AC plug from the power outlet to exit the test mode.
Alternately, quit the test mode by the following operation.
· Press any of the FUNCTION buttons. (Buttons other than the DVD/CD button)
· Press the POWER button.

2. Front End Test Mode
2-1. How to Start up the Front End Test Mode
· Starting up this mode from the Status/Media display mode
Press the “ENTER” button and the “PLAY” button at the same time for 3 seconds or more in the Status/Media display mode.
· Starting up from the normal mode
From the remote control, input the following commands in the order starting from “RETURN” ™ “ANGLE” ™ “RETURN” ™ “C” within 2 seconds while the disc is stopped.
After the FRONT END test mode has started up, the FL display is changed to “FE TEST”.
2-2. How to Quit the Front End Test Mode
Disconnect the AC plug from the power outlet to exit the test mode.
Alternately, quit the test mode by the following operation.
· Press any of the FUNCTION buttons. (Buttons other than the DVD/CD button)
· Press the POWER button.

Each operation is described below.
2-3-1. Sled advance in FWD
The optical pickup moves toward the outer circumference when the “FF” buttons of the main unit or the “1” button of the remote control unit is pressed in the STOP status.
Because the optical pickup will not stop movement even when it reaches the outermost circumference, press the “STOP” of the main unit or the “6” button of the remote control unit b.
2-3-2. Sled advance in RWD
The optical pickup moves toward the inner circumference when the “RWD” button of the main unit or the “2” button of the remote control unit is pressed in the STOP status.
2-3-3. Spindle continuous kick (forward rotation)
The spindle rotates in the forward direction when the “ECO” button of the main unit or the “3” button of the remote control unit is pressed in the STOP status.
To stop the rotation, press “STOP” of the main unit or “6” of the remote control unit.
2-3-4. Laser ON/OFF
Laser of the pickup is turned on or off when the “ENTER” button of the main unit or the “4” button of the remote control unit is pressed in the STOP status.
The display changes as shown below by every pressing of the “ENTER” button of the main unit.

2-3-5. PLAY (ALL SERVO ON)
When the “PLAY” button of the main unit or the “7” button of the remote control unit is pressed in the STOP status, the disc detection and the disc identification are performed. Then the machine enters the Test Play mode.
Neither picture nor audio is output during Test Play mode.
To quit the Test Play mode, press “STOP” of the main unit or “6” of the remote control unit.
2-3-6. STOP (ALL SERVO OFF)
The machine returns to the STOP status when “STOP” of the main unit or “6” of the remote control unit is pressed.

3-1. How to Start up the Test Display Mode
From the remote control, input the following commands in the order starting from “RETURN” ™ “ZOOM” ™ “RETURN” ™ “C” within 2 seconds in the normal mode while the disc is stopped.
After the Test Display mode has started up, the FL displays the message “H***_*_*” for 4 seconds.
3-2. How to Quit the Test Display Mode
Disconnect the AC plug from the power outlet to exit the Test Display mode.
Alternately, quit the Test Display mode by the following operation.

In the Test Display mode, NTSC/PAL identification and region can be confirmed from the FL display message “H***_*_*” that appears for
