Frequently asked questions

Transaction Logging is a feature of TurboIMAGE that allows all changes to a data base to be written to a disc or tape file. These changes can be reapplied to the data base in the event of a system interrupt.

Transaction Logging is intended to bridge the gap between daily backups. Any time after the first users get into the data base after a backup, the changes they make to the data base are subject to loss due to unforeseen events.

Roll-forward and roll-back are the two main Transaction Logging types. Roll-forward involves restoring the data base from a backup and reapplying all subsequent changes. Roll-back means backing out those transactions that were incomplete at recovery time.
