WARNING!

DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur:

• Harness mode: use only with children who weigh between 25 and 90 lbs (11.3 and 40.8 kg) and whose height is between 30 and 58 in. (76.2 and 147.3 cm) and are at least 2 years of age.

• Booster mode: use only with children who weigh between 40 and 120 lbs (18.1 and 54.4 kg) and whose height is between 45 and 62 in. (114.3 and 157.5 cm).

• Snugly adjust the belts provided with this child restraint around your child.

• Secure the top anchorage strap provided with this child seat.

• Use only the vehicle’s lap and shoulder belt system when restraining the child in this booster seat.

• Secure this child restraint with the vehicle’s child restraint anchorage system if available or with a vehicle belt.

• Do not use the lower anchors of the child restraint anchorage system (LATCH system) to attach this child restraint when restraining a child weighing more than 40 lbs (18.1 kg) with the internal harnesses of the child restraint.

• Follow all instructions on this child restraint and in the written instructions located in the pocket behind the cover of the child seat.

• Register your child restraint with the manufacturer.

• The top tether MUST be used in harness mode for children that weigh more than 65 lbs (29.5 kg). Britax recommends that the top tether be used at all times when installing the child seat.

Using the top tether will improve the stability of your child seat and reduce the risk of injury.

• Use this child seat forward-facing only.

• This child seat cannot be in the recline position when used in booster mode.

• According to accident statistics, children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seating positions than in the front seating positions.

• This child seat must not be used in the home, in boats, or other non-certified applications.

• To prevent injury due to deterioration or hidden damage, discontinue use of this child seat when it is older than nine years or has been in a moderate or severe crash. See Serial Number and Manufactured Date Label located on the child seat shell.

• The primary protection for occupants of a vehicle in a collision is the body of the vehicle itself. A child seat may not protect a child when the vehicle is seriously im pact ed. However when correctly installed, a child seat will substantially improve the chances for survival in most crashes.

• Secure this child seat even when it is not occupied. In a crash, an unsecured child seat may injure vehicle occupants.

• Never use the harness or adjuster strap to lift or carry this child seat. Doing so could damage the harness adjuster and webbing.

Always carry this child seat by the shell or tether straps.

• The use of non-Britax covers, inserts, toys, accessories, or tightening devices is not approved by Britax. Their use could cause this child seat to fail Federal Motor Vehicle Safety

Standards or not perform as intended in a crash.

• Always check the back seat upon leaving your vehicle to prevent leaving a child restrained in a child seat alone in the vehicle.

Safety Information

Important Notes

• Verify that the child seat is securely installed and the harness is properly adjusted around the child each time the child seat is used.

• Discontinue use of this child seat if it has been in a moderate or severe crash. It is not necessary to replace a car seat after a

minor crash defined by the US National Highway Traffic Safety

Administration (NHTSA) as:

* The vehicle is driveable from the crash site; and

* The vehicle door nearest the child seat was not damaged; and

* No vehicle occupants were injured; and

* There is no visible damage to the child seat; and

* The airbags (if present) did not deploy.

• Adjust the harness to fit the clothes the child is wearing. Remove bulky coats and/or jackets before putting the child in child seat.

• Cover the child seat when the vehicle is parked in direct sunlight.

Metal parts of child seat could become hot enough to burn a child.

• Store the child seat in a safe place when it is not being used. Avoid placing heavy objects on top of it.

• Do not leave children alone in a vehicle, even for a short time.

• Do not, except as described in this booklet, attempt to disassemble any part of the child seat or change the way the harness or vehicle’s seat belts are used.

• Do not leave loose objects, e.g. books, bags, etc., in the back of a vehicle. In the event of a sudden stop, loose objects will keep moving, potentially causing serious injuries.

• Do not leave folding vehicle seats unsecured or unlatched. In the event of a sudden stop, a loose seat back could cause the child seat not to perform as intended.

• Do not allow children to play with this child seat.

Certification

This restraint conforms to all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety

Standards (FMVSS 213) and is certified for use in motor vehicles.

This restraint is not certified for aircraft use because of possible belt buckle installation interference in harness mode and because aircraft do not have shoulder belts required for booster mode.

Child Seat Fit Requirements

Harness Mode:

WARNING!

Harness mode use of this child seat is ONLY for children who meet ALL of the following requirements. If the child does not meet all harness mode requirements because the child is too small, another type of child seat MUST be used.

If your child does not meet all harness mode requirements because they are too large, you may need to use this child seat in booster mode. Thoroughly review all fit requirements before using the child seat.

Children must:

1 be at least two years of age and

2 weigh between 25 and 90 lbs (11.3 and 40.8 kg) and

3 stand between 30 and 58 in. (76.2 and 147.3 cm) in height and

4 the top of the child’s ears must be below the top of the head restraint when seated and

5 the lap belt is routed under the armrests, low across the child’s upper thighs.

NOTE: Britax recommends booster mode only after the child outgrows harness mode.

Installing the Child Seat

General Information

Harness Mode

WARNING!

• Install forward-facing only.

• DO NOT use anything to raise the child seat off of the vehicle seat.

• Use the vehicle belt (not lower connectors) for harness mode installations with children who weigh more than 40 lbs

(18.1 kg).

• The top tether MUST be used in harness mode for children that weigh more than 65 lbs. Britax recommends that the top tether be used at all times when installing the child seat. Using the top tether will improve the stability of your child seat and reduce the risk of injury.

• Use this child seat in harness mode with children at least 2 years of age and who weigh between

25 and 90 lbs (11.3 – 40.8 kg) and who stand between 30 and 58 in.

(76.2 – 147.3 cm) in height. Britax recommends using harness mode until your child outgrows its fit requirements. See the Child Seat

Fit Recommendations section on page 4 for more information.

• This seat may be used in either the upright or recline position in harness mode (see figures at right).

Installing the Child Seat

Booster Mode

WARNING!

• Position forward-facing only in a seating position with a lap-shoulder belt.

• Use only the vehicle’s lap and shoulder belt system when securing a child in booster mode. Never secure a child with a lap belt only in booster mode.

• Always secure the unoccupied child seat.

• If the lower anchors in your vehicle prevent proper vehicle belt fit across your child you cannot use LATCH to position this seat in booster mode. See below.

The vehicle belt fits properly when the lap part sits low across the child’s upper thighs (b) and the shoulder part lies across the center of the child’s chest and does not contact the child’s neck when routed through the upper belt guide (a).

• This child seat can be used in booster mode with children who weigh between 40 and 120 lbs

LATCH system does not interfere with the vehicle belt function and alignment when securing your child.

Installing the Child Seat: Harness Mode

Lap-Shoulder Belt with CLICKTIGHT

Before you begin:

• Check that your vehicle has a top tether anchor.

* The top tether MUST be used in harness mode for children that weigh more than 65 lbs (29.5 kg). Britax recommends that the top tether be used at all times when installing the child seat. Using the top tether will improve the stability of your child seat and reduce the risk of injury. Check your vehicle owner’s manual for tether anchor locations.

• Loosen the Versa-Tether and place it over the child seat back to keep it from becoming pinned between the child seat and vehicle seat during installation.

• Adjust the child seat to desired position and place forward facing on the vehicle seat.


2 Pull the vehicle belt out and route along the green belt path. Verify that the belt is not twisted and then buckle.

3 Remove slack from the lap part (a), then shoulder part (b) of the vehicle belt.

4 Close the CLICKTIGHT.

* A click confirms the

* The child seat is secure when

Firmly press the Versa-Tether hook over a designated vehicle tether anchor. Remove slack.

Secure excess webbing with the elastic strap.

2 Route the lower connector strap along the green belt path and firmly press the lower connectors onto their adjacent lower anchors.

3 Pull the end of the lower connector strap to remove slack.

Positioning the Child Seat: Booster Mode

LATCH with CLICKTIGHT


IMPORTANT: It is not necessary to use LATCH to position this child restraint in booster mode. To use this seat in booster mode without

LATCH, see instructions for Securing Your Child on page 18.

IMPORTANT: Use lower anchors only to position this child seat in your vehicle seat. Secure your child using the vehicle’s lapshoulder belt system.

• Check that your vehicle has lower anchors.

Securing Your Child

Harness Mode

WARNING!

• Never route the vehicle belt over the child when using this child seat in harness mode.

• Adjust the belts provided with this child seat so they fit snugly around your child. A snug strap should not allow any slack. It lies in a relatively straight line without sagging. It does not press on the child’s flesh or push the child’s body into an unnatural position.

• Adjust the harness to fit the clothes the child is wearing.

Remove bulky coats and/or jackets before putting the child in the child seat.

• Verify that the child seat is secure and the harness is properly adjusted around the child each time the child seat is used.


Always check the seat area for debris and remove it to prevent interference with the harness adjuster mechanism or CLICKTIGHT.

Place the child in the child seat and position the harness straps around the child.

Fasten the harness buckle.

* Proper connection is confirmed with an audible click after inserting each buckle tongue.

6 Pull the harness adjuster strap to tighten the harness.

* The harness should have a snug fit around the child. A snug strap should not allow any slack. It lies in a relatively straight line without sagging. It does not press on the child’s flesh or push the child’s body into an unnatural position. You should not be able to pinch excess webbing.

Pull the harness adjuster away from the child seat (parallel to the ground) to tighten.

Do not pull sideways.

7 Fasten the chest clip.

* The correct height for the chest clip is at the middle of the chest at armpit level.

* The HUGS chest pads may be placed in any position that is comfortable for the child within the range of the correctly placed chest clip.

Securing Your Child

Booster Mode

WARNING!

• Only use a lap-shoulder belt to secure the child in booster mode.

• Use the shoulder belt guides on the child seat to ensure proper fit.

• Ensure the lap part of the vehicle belt sits low across the child’s upper thighs and that the shoulder part does not contact the child’s neck.


• If your vehicle seat back is adjustable, ensure it is in the upright position before placing the child seat on the vehicle seat.

• Adjust the child seat to the upright position and place forward facing on the vehicle seat, if not already installed

(see page 14).

1 Adjust the head restraint so the bottom of the shoulder belt guides are in the closest position at or above the child’s shoulders. The child’s ears should be below the top of the head restraint.

2 Pull the vehicle belt out and route the shoulder part through the shoulder belt guide.

TIP: Raising the head restraint to the highest position will allow for easier access to the shoulder belt guide.

3 Fasten the vehicle belt across the child.

* The lap part of the vehicle belt must be routed low across the child’s upper thighs.

4 Remove slack from the vehicle belt.

* The shoulder part must lie

across the center of the child’s

chest, at or above the child’s

shoulder.

Harness and Head Restraint Height Adjustment

IMPORTANT: Make all adjustments for the fit of your child before using the child seat. Place the child seat on the floor and have your child sit in the seat. Follow the instructions on the following pages to make the proper adjustments to the harness, buckle, and head restraint.

Adjusting Buckle Position

1 Unbuckle the harness by pressing the release button and pulling the tongues.

2 Open the CLICKTIGHT.

3 Unhook the retaining clips at the back of the seat cover. Pull the seat cover forward and over the belly pad.

2 Lift and slide the harness height adjuster into the desired position.

* Ensure the head restraint has locked into position.

IMPORTANT: In harness mode, the harness height adjuster also adjusts the height for the head restraint. Always adjust the harness straps to the closest position at or above your child’s shoulders.

4 Turn and pull the buckle retainer through the slot in the child seat shell.

IMPORTANT: In booster mode the vehicle belt must be in the closest position at or above the child’s shoulder through the shoulder belt guide.

IMPORTANT: Select the slot closest to, but not under the child.

1 Turn and push the buckle retainer through the slot in the child seat shell.

2 Pull the EZ-Buckle belly pad through the corresponding slot in the seat cover. Place the seat cover back in its original position and attach the retaining clips.

* Adjust the seat and ensure that it is locked into the desired position before installing in the vehicle.

* Ensure the top of the child seat does not rest against the top of the vehicle seat back while reclining.

* Pay attention while adjusting

the recline to keep hands clear

of any pinch point.

The figure above shows typical locations for lower anchors and tether anchors in a vehicle. Check your vehicle owner’s manual for the exact lower anchor locations and seating positions (if equipped), information on use with a child seat, and for the maximum weight rating for the lower anchors.

Standard vehicle seat spacing between lower anchors is 11 inches

(27.9 cm). This child seat can be used in a seating position with up to 20 inches (50.8 cm) of space between the lower anchors if the vehicle manufacturer allows.

Using the Lower Connectors

The lower connectors are located under the CLICKTIGHT in the lower connector storage area.

Store the lower connectors when not in use.

To remove the lower connector from the storage slot or lower anchor:

1 Press and hold the red release button.

2 Pull the lower connector from the storage slot or lower anchor.


Using the Versa-Tether

WARNING!

• Attach the Versa-Tether only to tether anchors identified by your vehicle manufacturer as tether anchorage points.

• If your vehicle does not currently have a tether anchor attachment, refer to your vehicle owner’s manual or contact your vehicle man u fac tur er for assistance. DO NOT modify your vehicle without advice from your vehicle manufacturer.

• The top tether MUST be used in harness mode for children that weigh more than 65 lbs (29.5 kg). Britax recommends that the top tether be used at all times when installing the child seat. Using the top tether will improve the stability of your child seat and reduce the risk of injury.

Tether anchor locations vary from vehicle to vehicle. Check your vehicle owner’s manual and look for the tether anchor symbol shown in the diagram to help identify where the top tether anchor point is located in your vehicle.

To attach the lower connector to the storage slot or lower anchor:

Firmly push the lower connector into the slot or lower anchor until a click is heard.

NOTE: Fold the lower connector strap and adjuster so that they lie flat within the lower connector storage area. Attach the lower connectors to the anchors located at the front of the storage area.

To attach the Versa-Tether to a tether anchor:

1 Remove the webbing from the elastic strap and loosen the

Versa-Tether.

2 Firmly press the hook over the a tether anchor point.

IMPORTANT: Use the elastic strap to contain extra webbing. Always ensure any excess webbing is contained within your vehicle.

Energy-Absorbing Versa-Tether

The Versa-Tether can indicate when the child seat has been in a moderate or severe crash and replacement of the child seat is necessary.

Figure 1 shows the tether when the child seat is acceptable for continued use (provided the child seat has not been involved in a crash). The colored stitching will be intact and the webbing will be held under a tether label.

Figures 2 and 3 show examples of when the child seat is unacceptable for continued use.

If the tether label is torn, or if one or both of the loops have pulled through the back side of the shell and/or any of the colored stitching has ripped, the child seat is no longer acceptable for use.

IMPORTANT: Discontinue use of child seat if it has been involved in a moderate or severe crash, regardless of whether the loops have pulled through the back side of the shell and the colored stitching has been ripped.

Compatible Vehicle Seat Belts

Vehicle seats and seat belts differ from vehicle to vehicle. Refer to your vehicle owner’s manual for specific information about your vehicle belts and their use with child seats.

Incompatible Vehicle Seat Belts

WARNING!

The following types of vehicle seat belts are NOT compatible with this child seat. If any of the belt types listed below are in the chosen seating position, choose another vehicle seating position or check your vehicle owner’s manual for information on installing a car seat in your vehicle.

1 Lap-shoulder belts with top or bottom anchor points on the vehicle door.

2 Motorized, automatic vehicle seat belts.

3 Lap-shoulder belts that have a separate retractor each for the lap section and shoulder section.


Vehicle Seating Positions

WARNING!

Some vehicles have no seating positions which are compatible with this child seat or any other child seat.

If in doubt, contact the vehicle manufacturer for assistance.

Forward-facing vehicle seats MUST be used with this child seat. Side-facing or rear-facing seats CANNOT be used. See diagram below.

DO NOT place a child seat in the front seat of a vehicle with a passenger air bag unless deactivated.

Cleaning the Buckle

If your child eats and drinks while in the child seat, you may need to check the buckle periodically and rinse out any accumulated debris or dried liquids.

Tips and Troubleshooting

TIP: When installing the child seat with the vehicle seat belt and the vehicle buckle stalk is too long:

• Consult your vehicle owner’s manual to see if you can lower the vehicle buckle position by twisting the vehicle buckle stalk a maximum of three full rotations to shorten to appropriate length.

• Be sure the vehicle buckle release is facing outward after twisting.

Troubleshooting

Problem: The CLICKTIGHT will not close with a click to signal that it is secure.

Possible Solution: There may be debris or other objects interfering with the mechanism. Ensure the seat area is clear of any obstructions and try closing the CLICKTIGHT again.

Problem: The harness is hard to adjust.

Possible Solution: The yoke may be caught on a strap or other component of the child seat. Remove the obstruction and try adjusting the harness again.

Problem: The adjuster strap is fraying at the sides.

Possible Solution: Pull the harness adjuster strap away from the child seat (parallel to the ground) to tighten. Do not pull sideways.

Doing so may cause the harness adjuster strap to fray at the sides.

Problem: The buckle will not fasten with a click after each tongue is inserted.

Possible solution: There may be debris in the buckle mechanism.

Clean the buckle as shown on page 44 and try fastening the buckle again.

• Use el sistema de cinturón de seguridad de banda horizontal y transversal del vehículo (no los conectores inferiores) para instalaciones en modo de arnés con niños que pesan más de 18,1 kg (40 lb).


• Utilice este asiento de seguridad para niños en modo de arnés con niños de al menos 2 años de edad, con un peso comprendido entre

11,3 y 40,8 kg (25 y 90 lb) y una altura entre de 76,2 a

147,3 cm (30 y 58 pulg.). Britax recomienda utilizar el modo de arnés hasta su niño sea demasiado grande para utilizar el modo de arnés. Consulte la sección Recomendaciones de ajuste del asiento de seguridad para niños en la página 52 para obtener más información.

ADVERTENCIA!

• Coloque el asiento orientado hacia delante solo en un asiento que disponga de cinturón de banda horizontal y transversal.

• Solo debe usarse el sistema de cinturón de seguridad de banda horizontal y transversal del vehículo cuando se esté sujetando al niño mediante el modo regulable. Nunca se debe sujetar a un niño solo con un cinturón de banda horizontal cuando se esté utilizando el modo regulable.

• Los asientos de seguridad para niños siempre deben estar bien sujetos, aunque no estén ocupados.

• Si los anclajes inferiores de su vehículo impiden que el cinturón del vehículo quede bien ajustado al niño, no podrá utilizar el sistema LATCH para colocar este asiento en modo regulable. Observe el siguiente diagrama.

ADVERTENCIA!

• Nunca se debe pasar el cinturón del vehículo por encima del niño cuando se utilice este asiento de seguridad para niños en modo de arnés.

• Ajuste los cinturones que se incluyen con el asiento de seguridad para niños de manera que queden perfectamente ajustados al niño. Para que una correa esté perfectamente ajustada, no debe quedar holgada. Debe formar una línea relativamente recta, sin torsiones. No debe oprimir la piel del niño ni provocar que el cuerpo adopte una postura que no sea natural.

• Ajuste el arnés teniendo en cuenta la ropa que lleve puesta el niño. Antes de colocar al niño en el asiento, quítele cualquier chaqueta o abrigo abultado que lleve.

• Cada vez que use el asiento de seguridad para niños, compruebe que esté bien sujeto y que el arnés esté perfectamente ajustado al tamaño del niño.

Antes de comenzar:

Compruebe siempre que no haya suciedad acumulada en el asiento y, de haberla, límpiela, para evitar que interfiera con el mecanismo de ajuste del arnés o el CLICKTIGHT.

de HUGS pueden colocarse en cualquier posición que resulte cómoda para el niño, siempre que dicha posición esté dentro de los parámetros establecidos .

Tense la correa de ajuste del arnés tirando de ella hacia fuera del asiento de seguridad para niños (de manera paralela al suelo).

No tire hacia los lados.

Funciones del asiento de seguridad para niños

Regulación de altura de reposacabezas y del arnés

IMPORTANTE: Antes de utilizar el asiento de seguridad para niños, debe realizar todos los ajustes oportunos para adaptarlo al tamaño de su hijo. Coloque el asiento de seguridad para niños en el suelo y siente a su hijo en él. Siga las instrucciones de las páginas siguientes para realizar los ajustes oportunos al arnés, a la hebilla y al reposacabezas.

1 Afloje el arnés.

2 Levante el regulador de altura del arnés, deslícelo hasta la posición deseada y suéltelo.

* Asegúrese que el reposacabezas ha bloqueado en su posición.

LATCH y los asientos (si viene equipado con ellos), cómo utilizarlos con un asiento de seguridad para niños y el peso máximo que pueden soportar.

El espacio estándar que suele quedar libre en los asientos del vehículo entre los anclajes LATCH es de 27,9 cm (11 pulgadas).

Este asiento de seguridad para niños puede colocarse en asientos con hasta 50,8 cm (20 pulgadas) de separación entre los anclajes

LATCH, si el fabricante del vehículo así lo permite.

Los conectores inferiores se encuentran situados debajo del

CLICKTIGHT en el compartimento para conectores inferiores. Guarde los conectores inferiores cuando no se estén utilizando.

Comparamento de los conectores inferiores

Para extraer el conector LATCH del compartimento o anclaje inferior:

1 Mantenga pulsado el botón rojo de desbloqueo.

2 Tire del conector LATCH para extraerlo del compartimento o anclaje inferior.

Para acoplar el conector inferior al compartimento o anclaje inferior:

Empuje el conector inferior con firmeza en la ranura o el anclaje inferior hasta oír un clic.

NOTA: Pliegue la correa del conector inferior y el dispositivo de ajuste de manera que queden bien extendidos en el compartimento para conectores inferiores. Acople los conectores inferiores a los anclajes situados en la parte frontal del compartimento.

Absorción de fuerzas Versa-Tether

El Versa-Tether puede indicar cuando el asiento de seguridad para niños ha estado implicado en un accidente moderado o grave, y es necesario reemplazarlo.

La figura 1 muestra una correa de retención cuando el asiento de seguridad para niños está en condiciones de seguir utilizándose

(salvo que el asiento de seguridad para niños haya estado implicado en un choque). Las puntadas de color estarán intactas y la correa de retención estará atrapada por una etiqueta.

En las figuras 2 y 3 se pueden observar ejemplos de cuándo el asiento de seguridad para niños debe dejar de utilizarse. Debe dejar de usarse el asiento de seguridad para niños si la etiqueta para la correa de retención está rota, si alguna de las lazadas ha salido por la parte posterior del asiento o si las puntadas de color están rotas.

Cómo cambiar de modo


• No es necesario quitar el arnés para utilizar el asiento de seguidad del niño en modo regulable. Para guardar el arnés y la hebilla siga las siguentes instrucciones. Si desea quitar el arnés y la hebilla, siga las instrucciones en la pagina 80.

Cinturones de seguridad de vehículo compatibles

Consejos y solución de problemas

CONSEJO: Al instalar el asiento de seguridad para niños con el cinturón de seguridad de vehículo si la correa de hebilla es demasiado larga:

• Consulte a su manual de propietario del vehículo para ver si usted puede bajar la posición de la hebilla girando la correa un máximo de tres vueltas completas para acortar a la longitud adecuada.

• Asegúrese de que el botón de liberación de la hebilla está hacia fuera después de torcer.

Solución de problemas

Problema: El CLICKTIGHT no se cerrará con un clic para indicar que es seguro.

Posible solución: Puede haber suciedad u otros objectos que interfieren con el mecanismo. Asegúrese de que el área del asiento esté despejado de obstrucciones y cerráis el CLICKTIGHT de nuevo.

Problema: Resulta difícil ajustar el arnés.

Posible solución: Puede que el enganche haya quedado apresado en una correa o en otra pieza del asiento de seguridad para niños.

Retire el posible obstáculo e intente ajustar el arnés de nuevo.

Problema: La correa de ajuste se está desgastando por los laterales.
