PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Contents General overview First time use of the 1752A Builder Completing an IPC-1752A Class A Declaration Completing an IPC-1752A Class C Declaration Completing an IPC-1752A Class D Declaration Contact Information General overview PTC developed the 1752 Builder to help suppliers fill in the IPC-1752A form they received with a material declaration request from their customer. The IPC-1752A form comes in a format called XML, recognizable by a file name that looks like “filename.xml”. This tool will enable you to fill in the declaration form you received using a 3-step process: 1. Load the file you received 2. Fill in the requested data 3. Save the completed form back to your computer After this process, the declaration form will be ready to be submitted back to your customer who requested that you fill in the form. PTC will not keep any of your product data. Any declaration you create in this tool will be deleted after 80 hours of inactivity. In order not to loose your work, make sure to export any incomplete forms you do not expect to be working on for a prolonged period of time. You can later import an incomplete form and continue on it then. This user guides describes step by step how to fill in 2 commonly requested versions of the IPC-1752A form: Class A and Class D. You can fill in other versions or combinations of versions of the form in the same way as described here. This tool supports material declarations of the following types: • • • • • Class A Class C Class D Class A combined with Class C Class A combined with Class D PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 1 of 24 First time use of the 1752A Builder In order to protect your data, we require every user to register the first time you use the 1752 Builder tool as shown in image 1. The next time you use the tool you can log in with your username and password that you create during registration Image 1: First time user registration Image 2: Registered user login You can click the “forgot your password?” link to reset your password if you need to. PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 2 of 24 After logging in you will see a home page that lists the declarations (1752A forms) that you are working on, if any. If you do not have declarations in progress, or if older declarations have timed out and have been removed from the system, you will see the message “No declarations in database”. Image 3 shows this home page with this message highlighted in the red circle. Image 3: Home page with “No declarations in database” message To start working on a new declaration, or to continue working on a previously saved declaration, click on “Create New Declaration” directly under the listing of declarations that exist in the tool. This will take you to the New Declaration screen shown in image 4. Image 4: New Declaration screen You have two options for creating a new declaration, creating one from scratch or importing a form that has been sent to you or that you have saved earlier. In most cases you will start with an existing form. You do this by entering a name for the form you wish to create, selecting “Import Existing XML”, and choosing a file from your computer to import. You then select “Create” to import your form and create this new declaration you will be working on. PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 3 of 24 Image 5: Home page with a declaration present After creating a new declaration it will be shown on the home page, as shown in image 5. To the right of each declaration you will find a set of buttons enabling you to Edit, Export (to your computer), or Delete the declaration. The same edit ( ) and delete ( ) buttons are used throughout the 1752 Builder tool for editing or deleting parts of the form you are working on. When clicking the edit button on the home page you arrive at the main form definition page as shown in image 6 where the sections that can be filled in are shown and from where you can select to start editing those sections. Image 6: Form definition page PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 4 of 24 The only form section that is mandatory to fill out on any type of IPC-1752A form is the legal section. You or your customer can select all other sections at will. The legal section is the last section listed on the form definition page. Check the box next to it and an edit button will appear on the right hand side. The status of the section will be listed as incomplete until you have visited and completed the section. 1752builder checks whether the form you are creating meets the IPC-1752A rules. You can follow the trail of red “Incomplete” markers to any such error. Note that we don’t restrict the import or export of incomplete forms. Click the edit button to go to the legal page (shown in image 7). Image 7: Legal page The legal page defaults to showing the standard legal text used with the IPC1752A form. You can edit this text here, or create or add your own customer text. Make sure to check the “Supplier Acceptance” box highlighted red before finishing with your form. This validates the digital signature that will be included with your finished form. There are 2 methods shown in image 7 you can use to return to the form definition page: Selecting “Done”, or by using the breadcrumb to navigate back. Selecting “Done” saves any changes you made. PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 5 of 24 Edits you make may not be saved if you use the breadcrumb for navigation anywhere in the form. Always click the “Done” button anywhere you have made changes you want to save. The first 4 checkboxes on the form definition page determine what kind of material declaration you are working on. The first example declaration we will demonstrate is a Class A declaration. Later in the guide we will demonstrate finishing a Class D declaration. Some form information is common across declarations. If you are completing a combined request, for example a Class A request combined with a Class D request, you can complete such information under any declaration sections. This applies to: • • • Requester information Supplier information Product details If you select the first checkbox “Distribution Form”, you are creating a distribution form from scratch, not in response to your customer. In this case you will not have to fill in requester information. Completing an IPC-1752A Class A Declaration A Class A material request requires details about the information requestor, information supplier, the product(s) the information is requested for, and whether these products are compliant or not and whether any and which exemptions apply. To fill in this data you need to check the first box on the form definition page and then click the edit ( ) icon. If you have received this information request from somebody else, the checkbox may already be checked in which case you can simply go ahead and click the edit ( ) icon. PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 6 of 24 Image 8: Form definition page for Class A declaration After clicking the edit icon you will land at a page containing the sections of the Class A declaration that need to be completed. In a new declaration, you will see requester and supplier info sections and a button to add a product. In an existing or imported declaration form you may see the following sections: • • • • Requester info – these are details about your customer Supplier info – these are details about your company Product info – these are details about your product(s) to which the declaration query apply Query list tied to these products – these are the compliance statements and/or exemptions applicable to the products this query list is tied to • Additional product info and query lists – You may use this form to submit declarations about all of your products. You should group products together that share the same characteristics (defined by having the same query answers) and create additional product groups for products with different query answers PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 7 of 24 Image 9: Initial sections shown with a new Class A declaration By clicking the edit icon to the right of the sections shown in image 9 you will be able to edit the details of these sections. Image 10: Minimum required Requester Info fields Image 10 shows the minimum information that must be completed in the requester info section. Your customer may already have completed this PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 8 of 24 information and locked it. In that case you will not be able to edit these fields. The “Lock Request Fields” checkbox in the bottom left will indicate this. If there already exists a contact, that person will show up in the contact list at the bottom of the page. You can add multiple contacts by clicking the “Add Another Person” after entering somebody’s contact details. You can also edit or delete an existing contact using the icons to the right of the contact in the contact list. Remember to click “Done” when finished in order to save your edits. Image 11: Minimum required Supplier Info fields Image 11 shows the minimum information that must be completed in the supplier info section. Here you can enter information about yourself and your company. The IPC 1752A form allows you to enter details about the main contact person in your company as well as an authorized representative. If that is the same person, you can click the “Copy From Contact” button to copy the all of the contact person’s information into the Authorized Representative section. PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 9 of 24 The response date that you can select using the calendar tool shown should be the date that the form is complete and ready to send. If there already exists a contact, that person will show up in the contact list at the bottom of the page. You can add multiple contacts by clicking the “Add Another Person” after entering somebody’s contact details. You can also edit or delete an existing contact using the icons to the right of the contact in the contact list. After clicking “Done”, your edits will be saved and you will be sent back to the declaration sections overview page. The status of the requester and supplier info sections will now be marked as “Complete” as shown in image 12. Image 12: Initial Class A sections completed A single 1752A declaration can be used to report on multiple products and multiple product families. To add a product family, click on the “Add Product Family” button. If you want to report on multiple products that do not belong to the same family but who share all other characteristics relevant to your declaration, you can treat them as a product family. PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 10 of 24 Image 13: Product family page To add a single product i.d. to your declaration, click “Add Single Product ID”. You will see a product details page where you can add information about your product. Image 14 shows this screen. The minimum amount of information that is required here is a product name and the amount of product with its unit of measurement (UOM button). PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 11 of 24 Image 14: Product details page After clicking “Done” on the product detail page you will land back on the product family page from image 13. On this page you can add additional products that fall under the same compliance query. You can also add multiple product i.d. at once through a spreadsheet upload function. To do this, select “Add Multiple Product IDs” on the Product Family page and follow the instructions provided on the screen. Now, select the “Manage Query Lists” button to add compliance details to your products. You will land at a query list page as shown in Image 15. Image 15: Query list page PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 12 of 24 On the query list page, you can select a query list from the dropdown and then add it to your list of relevant queries by clicking on the “Add Query List” button. Completing an IPC-1752A Class C Declaration This chapter builds on the information provided in the previous chapter. We will show the steps you need to perform to enter additional information that was not covered in the Class A declaration example. First we will add Substance Category Lists to one of the demo products. To do this we select to edit a product under the Class C declaration sections (drill down using the edit icon until you reach a product page). As image 23 shows, we have already added and completed a Substance Category List in the images that you will see. Image 23: Product family page with Class C declaration sections To add a substance category list, click the “Add Category Lists” button under the Substance Category Lists table, or to edit an existing list click the edit icon. PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 17 of 24 Image 24: Substance Category List On the next page (image 24) you will be able to indicate whether the concentration of substances from regulated substance categories exceed the allowed threshold. In the case of RoHS or JIG category lists you can also add applicable RoHS Annex III or Annex IV exemptions. Other fields that are important to understand are: • • • Mass: This is an editable field where you enter the total amount of substances used that fall in the substance category. UOM: Use this drop down to select the unit of measure of the substance category mass. If you select Mass %, this indicates that this is a mass concentration expressed in percent weight of the product. Concentration: This is an optional editable field where you can enter the concentration of a regulated substance category in % of product mass. Completing an IPC-1752A Class D Declaration This chapter builds on the information provided in the previous chapters. We will show the steps you need to perform to enter additional information that was not covered in the Class A declaration example. First we will add material and substance details to one of the demo products. To do this we select to edit a product under the Class D declaration sections (drill down using the edit icon until you reach a product page). PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 18 of 24 As image 25 shows, 2 tables are included in the Class D form that were not present with the Class A and Class C forms: A list of Sub-Products and a Homogeneous Material List. A sub-product is a sub-unit of a complex product. These can be added in the same way as you add products. In this document we will focus on homogeneous materials. We have already added the materials in the images that you will see. Image 25: Product family page with Class D declaration sections To add a material, click the “Add Material” button under the Homogenous Material List table, or to edit an existing material click the edit icon. PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 19 of 24 Image 26: Material definition page On the next page (image 26) you will provide the name of the material you will be providing details about and the amount of that material that is used in your product(s). You can optionally also declare to what material group this material belongs. You will also use this page to define the number of substance categories that are present in the material. Each substance category can contain multiple substances. Those will be listed under the substance category name when they have been created. Select the edit icon to edit the name of a substance category and the substances contained therein. PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 20 of 24 Image 27: Substance definition page The substance definition page shown in image 27 has multiple selectors and dropdowns as listed below, several of which are mandatory under the IPC-1752A standard. On this page you declare the substance category this set of substances belong to, and you list the substances that belong to this category. Use the “Add substance” button to add a substance and the delete icon to remove a substance. • • • • • Substance category name field: This mandatory field can be editable of a drop-down list, dependent on the selection used in the “Level” dropdown to the right of the field Level field: This drop-down determines whether the substance category is on a JIG list of whether it has a name that can be edited by you. Authority dropdown: This dropdown is set to CAS by default or can be changed to “Other” in case you are listing substances that do not have a CAS number. Substance name field: This field an editable text field that will initially say “…Start typing…”. When you start typing a name that partly matches a CAS name, the matching CAS names will show up in a drop-down (after typing your first 2 characters). The drop-down will become shorter the more characters you type. Click on the name you are searching for or type the full name you want to enter in case it is not listed. If you click on a name in the drop down, the corresponding CAS number will automatically be filled in in the identity field next to the name field. Identity field: This field lists the CAS number or other identity indicator for the substance. It is an editable text field that will initially say “…Start typing…”. When you start typing a number that partly matches a CAS number, the PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 21 of 24 • • • • matching CAS numbers will show up in a drop-down (after typing your first 2 characters). The drop-down will become shorter the more characters you type. Click on the number you are searching for or type the full number you want to enter in case it is not listed. If you click on a number in the drop down, the corresponding CAS name will automatically be filled in in the Substance name field next to the identity field. Exemption: This dropdown provides you with a list of RoHS exemption numbers to select from in case such an exemption applies to this substance. Substance Mass: This is an editable field where you enter the amount of the substance used. It is only editable if the “Has Mass” check box is checked (default). UOM: Use this drop down to select the unit of measure of the substance mass. If you select Mass %, this indicates that this is a mass concentration expressed in percent weight of the product (as opposed to concentration relative to homogeneous material which is used in the substance concentration field). Substance Concentration: This is an editable field where you can enter the concentration of a regulated substance. This concentration is expressed in mass % relative to the mass of the homogeneous material the substance is used in. The “Has Mass” checkbox needs to be unchecked when you are using this field. This completes the minimum required sections of the Class D declaration. The final section we will discuss covers the inclusion of electronics industry manufacturing process information. Image 28: Manufacturing Info selected for inclusion in this declaration PTC IPC-1752A Builder User Guide v1.0 Page 22 of 24 As image 28 shows, manufacturing info is not an individually editable section. This is because manufacturing methods may differ by product in the electronics industry. Select the declaration Type you are working on to edit the manufacturing info for a part or product family. Image 29: Manufacturing Info edit buttons present with each product Each product now has its own section with manufacturing info that can be edited. The common use for these sections is to specify the details of the soldering process that has been used in the manufacture of a printed circuit board. Image 30 shows the details than can be entered for these processes. Note that you can add details about multiple terminals you may be using by clicking the “Add Terminal” button.
