TX Matrix Plus Rack-Mounting Requirements
The TX Matrix Plus router can be installed in many types of racks. Follow these guidelines:
•
The rack rails must be spaced widely enough to accommodate the TX Matrix Plus router chassis's external dimensions: 52.0 in. (132.1 cm) high, 36.2 in. (91.9 cm) deep, and 21.4 in. (54.4 cm) wide. The center-mounting brackets and front-mounting flanges extend the width to 23 in. (58.4 cm) racks.
•
If the horizontal spacing between the rails is wider than the center-mounting brackets or front-mounting flanges, use approved wing devices to narrow the opening between the rails as required.
•
The rack must be strong enough to support the weight of the fully configured TX Matrix
Plus router, up to 925 lb (420 kg).
• We recommend that you install one TX Matrix Plus router in its own dedicated rack.

1.
Load the TX Matrix Plus router onto the lift, making sure the router rests securely on the mechanical lift.
CAUTION: Do not lift the TX Matrix Plus router using the handles on the sides of the chassis. Use these handles only to help position the TX Matrix
Plus router.
2.
Using the lift, position the TX Matrix Plus router in front of the rack, centering it in front of the mounting shelf.
3.
Lift the chassis slightly above the surface of the mounting shelf, and position it as close as possible to the shelf.
4.
Carefully slide the TX Matrix Plus router onto the mounting shelf, so that the bottom of the chassis and the mounting shelf overlap by approximately 2 inches.
5.
With four people pushing on the front-mounting flanges, slide the TX Matrix Plus router onto the mounting shelf until the center-mounting brackets (open-frame racks) or front-mounting flanges (four-post racks) contact the rack rails. The shelves ensure that the holes in the center-mounting brackets and the front-mounting flanges of the chassis align with the holes in the rack rails.
6.
Move the lift away from the rack.
7.
Install a mounting screw into each of the mounting holes aligned with the rack, starting from the bottom.
8.
Visually inspect the alignment of the TX Matrix Plus router. If the router is installed properly in the rack, all the mounting screws on one side of the rack should be aligned with the mounting screws on the opposite side, and the router should be level.

Step 8: Connect Power to a Seven-Input 420-A Power Supply in a TX Matrix Plus Router
The input power tray weighs 3.7 lb (1.7 kg).
To connect the DC source power cables to the seven-input 420-A power supply:
1.
Gather the following tools:
• 7/16-in. (11 mm) nut driver, with a minimum of 23 lb-in. (2.6 Nm) and 25 lb-in. (2.8
Nm) tightening torque, for tightening nuts to terminal studs on each power supply.
CAUTION: You must use an appropriate torque-controlled tool to tighten the nuts. Applying excessive torque damages the terminal studs and power supply. The maximum torque that may be applied to this nut is
25 in-lb (2.8 Nm).
• Phillips (+) screwdriver, number 2.
2.
Ensure that the voltage across the DC power source cable leads is 0 V and that there is no chance that the cable leads might become active during installation.
3.
Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
4.
Switch the circuit breakers on the power supply faceplate to the OFF position (O).

Use a 7/16-in. (11 mm) nut driver or wrench to tighten the nut. Apply between 23 lb-in.
(2.6 Nm) and 25 lb-in. (2.8 Nm) of torque to each nut.
CAUTION: You must use an appropriate torque-controlled tool to tighten the nuts. Applying excessive torque damages the terminal studs and power supply. The maximum torque that may be applied to this nut is 25 in-lb
(2.8 Nm).
CAUTION: You must ensure that power connections maintain the proper polarity. The power source cables might be labeled (+) and (–) to indicate their polarity. There is no standard color coding for DC power cables. The color coding used by the external DC power source at your site determines the color coding for the leads on the power cables that attach to the terminal studs on each power supply.
CAUTION: All inputs on the DC power supply in slot PEM0 must be powered by dedicated power feeds derived from feed A, and all inputs on the DC power supply in slot PEM1 must be powered by dedicated power feeds derived from feed B. This configuration provides the commonly deployed A/B feed redundancy for the system.

TX Matrix Plus Safety Warnings
WARNING: See installation instructions before connecting the router. This is a summary of safety warnings. For a complete list of warnings for this router, including translations, see the TX Matrix Plus Router Hardware Guide.
WARNING: The intrabuilding port(s) of the router is suitable for connection to intrabuilding or unexposed wiring or cabling only. The intrabuilding port(s) of the router MUST NOT be metallically connected to interfaces that connect to the OSP or its wiring. These interfaces are designed for use as intrabuilding interfaces only (Type 2 or Type 4 ports as described in GR-1089-CORE, Issue
4) and require isolation from the exposed OSP cabling. The addition of primary protectors is not sufficient protection to connect these interfaces metallically to OSP wiring.
CAUTION: Before removing or installing components of a router, attach an
ESD strap to an ESD point and place the other end of the strap around your bare wrist. Failure to use an ESD strap could result in damage to the router.
•
Only trained and qualified personnel should install or replace the router.
•

33
TX Matrix Plus Router Quick Start
•
Before installing the chassis, remove components as described in the TX Matrix Plus
Router Hardware Guide.
• The router should be mounted at the bottom of the rack.
•
If the rack is provided with stabilizing devices, install the stabilizers before mounting or servicing the router in the rack.
• When removing or installing an electrical component, always place it component-side up on a flat antistatic surface or in an electrostatic bag.
•
When you install the router, always make the ground connection first.
•
Do not work on the system or connect or disconnect cables during electrical storms.
• Before working on equipment that is connected to power lines, remove jewelry, including rings, necklaces, and watches. Metal objects heat up when connected to power and ground and can cause serious burns or become welded to the terminals.
•
Failure to observe these safety warnings can result in serious physical injury.
TX Matrix Plus Preventing Electrostatic Discharge Damage
Many TX Matrix Plus router hardware components are sensitive to damage from static electricity. Some components can be impaired by voltages as low as 30 V. You can easily generate potentially damaging static voltages whenever you handle plastic or foam packing material or if you move components across plastic or carpets. Observe the following guidelines to minimize the potential for electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage, which can cause intermittent or complete component failures:
•
Always use an ESD wrist strap or ankle strap, and verify that it is in direct contact with your skin.
CAUTION: For safety, periodically verify the resistance value of the ESD strap. The measurement should be in the range of 1 to 10 Mohms.
• When handling any component that has been removed from the chassis, verify that the equipment end of your ESD strap is attached to one of the ESD points on the chassis, which are shown in
and
•
Avoid contact between the component and your clothing. ESD voltages emitted from clothing can still damage components.
• When removing or installing a component, always place it component-side up on an antistatic surface, in an antistatic card rack, or into an electrostatic bag (see
). If you are returning a component, place it into an electrostatic bag before packing it.
