1. Automatic detect

1) When the Highlight program is running, the monitor automatically detects the video-playing portion of your multimedia program and activates the Highlight Zone feature. No selection is necessary.

2) Major multimedia programs: Windows Media Player, RealPlayer 8.0, video players on the broadcasters¡¯ websites, etc.

However, Automatic Detect may not work with a DVD player. (In this case, change the setting to Manual

Detect mode to create a Highlight Zone.)

3) Select Disable Auto Detect from the menu when you wish to deactivate the Automatic Detect feature.

Since this disables the Auto Detect capability of the monitor, the monitor does not automatically create a

Highlight Zone.

(When you first install the program, Automatic Detect is the default.)

2. Manual detect

In Manual Detect mode, you can either select a window or use the Drag function to create a Highlight Zone.

1 Selecting a window:

Click the Highlight icon( )on the Windows taskbar once to activate( )the cursor.

On-Screen Display (Highlight Zone II)

4. Other Features

The Highlight Zone function remembers the variables of the selected areas in Automatic and Manual Detect modes, respectively.

1 If the window selected as a Highlight Zone is moved or its size changed, the Highlight Zone changes accordingly.

2 If an un-selected window overlaps the window selected as a Highlight Zone, the Highlight Zone of the selected window turns off.

However, it does not turn off the Zone completely and only makes the window shift to standby mode while the settings are saved. When the window is re-activated, the Highlight Zone turns on again with the settings unchanged.

* When the Highlight Zone is created using the Drag function, the Zone functions independently of the above since it uses a random portion of the screen instead of a particular window.

Note 1 : How to cancel the saved variables of a selected window.

1) When a window selected in Automatic Detect mode is replaced with another window also selected in Automatic Detect mode, only the last selection is saved, and the Highlight Zone function is deactivated for the previous windows.

2) In Manual Detect mode, only the window (or the frame window) created last is saved, and the

Highlight Zone function is de-activated for the previous windows.

The Highlight Zone is de-selected when the program used to create the selected window is closed.

The variables of the Highlight Zone created using the Drag function are not saved.

Note 2 : The changes saved under Picture Setting of the Highlight Zone menu remain effective even after the program is closed using Exit Program.

(The next time you start the Highlight Zone program, the settings are shown as previously saved.)

3. MouScreen Q & A

Question

I cannot run the program.

Answer

Check to ensure the USB port of the monitor is connected to a root port or a hub USB port connected to the computer.

If not connected properly, the MouScreen program will not run, displaying the following message:

The screen condition has changed drastically while being adjusted.

If you see the above message even when the monitor port is correctly connected to the computer, this means the operating system does not recognize the USB monitor. In this case, disconnect and then reconnect the

USB port/cable before running the program. The operating system should now recognize the USB monitor.

Make sure you close the MouScreen program before changing the vertical frequency or resolution. Do not run the MouScreen program together with OSD.

Otherwise, the program may not work properly as data stored in the monitor may be different from those in the program.

If you close and rerun the program, it will work properly because it reads the modified data while reloading.

Self-Test

Feature Check

Your monitor provides a self test feature that allows you to check whether your monitor is

functioning properly.

1. Turn off both your computer and the monitor.

2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer.

3. Turn on the monitor.

If your monitor works normally, the following screen appears.

Failure of any of the boxes to appear indicates a problem with your monitor. This box also appears during normal operation if the video cable becomes disconnected or damaged.

4. Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable; then turn on both your computer and the monitor.

If your monitor screen remains blank after using the previous procedure, check your video controller and computer system; your monitor is functioning properly.

If there is something wrong with the input signal, a message appears on the screen or the screen goes blank although the power indicator LED is still on. The message may indicate that the monitor is out of scan range or that you need to check the signal cable.

The location and the position of the monitor may influence the quality and other

features of the monitor.

1. If there are any sub woofer speakers near the monitor, unplug and relocate the woofer to another room.

2. Remove all electronic devices such as radios, fans, clocks and telephones that are within 3 feet (one meter) of the monitor.

3. Degauss the monitor if any devices were removed from the area.

z z

A monitor recreates visual signals received from the computer. Therefore, if there is trouble with the computer or the video card, this can cause the monitor to become blank, have poor coloring, noise, Sync. Out of Range, 68.7kHz 168Hz PP, etc. In this case, first check the source of the problem, and then contact a service center or your dealer.

Judging the monitor's working condition

If there is no image on the screen or a "Sync. Out of Range, 68.7kHz 168Hz PP" message comes up, disconnect the cable from the computer while the monitor is still powered on.

{

If there is a message coming up on the screen or if the screen goes white, this means the monitor is in working condition.

{

In this case, check the computer for trouble.

Dot Pitch

The image on a monitor is composed of red, green and blue dots. The closer the dots, the higher the resolution. The distance between two dots of the same color is called the 'Dot Pitch'.

Unit: mm

Vertical Frequency

The screen must be redrawn several times per second in order to create and display an image for the user. The frequency of this repetition per second is called Vertical Frequency or Refresh

Rate. Unit: Hz

Example: If the same light repeats itself 60 times per second, this is regarded as 60 Hz.

Horizontal Frequency

The time to scan one line connecting the right edge to the left edge of the screen horizontally is called Horizontal Cycle. The inverse number of the Horizontal Cycle is called Horizontal

Frequency. Unit: kHz

Interlace and Non-Interlace Methods

Showing the horizontal lines of the screen from the top to the bottom in order is called the Non-

Interlace method while showing odd lines and then even lines in turn is called the Interlace method. The Non-Interlace method is used for the majority of monitors to ensure a clear image.

The Interlace method is the same as that used in TVs.

Plug & Play

This is a function that provides the best quality screen for the user by allowing the computer and the monitor to exchange information automatically. This monitor follows the international standard VESA DDC for the Plug & Play function.

Resolution

The number of horizontal and vertical dots used to compose the screen image is called

'resolution'. This number shows the accuracy of the display. High resolution is good for performing multiple tasks as more image information can be shown on the screen.

Example: If the resolution is 1024 X 768, this means the screen is composed of 1024 horizontal dots (horizontal resolution) and 768 vertical lines (vertical resolution).

Highlight Zone II

The Highlight Zone ensures the clear and sharp display of animated multimedia or photo images by enhancing the brightness of a certain area on the screen.

Highlight Zone II features a combination of the circuitry and the program built on the proprietary technology of SEC.

This offers an easy-to-use interface that highlights the video-playing portion of your multimedia program by automatically detecting and highlight the desired area by dragging.

MouScreen™ S/W

MouScreen is a software program that controls the condition of the monitor by using the USB communications. It uses a mouse to control all the functions. You can select items or sub functions by clicking the left button on the mouse.

USB(Universal Serial Bus)

USB is a connectivity specification for attaching peripherals to computers and is designed to meet Microsoft Plug and Play specification.

AB2 Written Eco-document acompanying the products

Congratulations! You have just purchased a TCO'95 approved and labelled product! Your choice has provided you with a product developed for professional use. Your purchase has also contributed to reducing the burden on the environment and to the further development of environmentally-adapted electronic products.

Why do we have environmentally-labelled monitors?

In many countries, environmental labelling has become an established method for encouraging the adaptation of goods and services to the environment. The main problem as far as monitors and other electronic equipment are concerned is that environmentally harmful substances are used both in the products and during their manufacture. Since it has not been possible so far for the majority of electronic equipment to be recycled in a satisfactory way, most of these potentially damaging substances sooner or later enter Nature.

There are also other characteristics of a monitor, such as energy consumption levels, that are important from both the working and natural environment viewpoints. Since all types of conventional electricity generation have a negative effect on the environment (acidic and climateinfluencing emissions, radioactive waste, etc.) it is vital to conserve energy. Electronic equipment

in offices consumes an enormous amount of energy, since it is often routinely left running continuously.

What does labelling involve?

This product meets the requirements for the TCO'95 scheme, which provides for international environmental labelling of monitors. The labelling scheme was developed as a joint effort by the

TCO (The Swedish Confederation of Professional Employees), Naturskyddsforeningen (The

Swedish Society for Nature Conservation) and NUTEK (The National Board for Industrial and

Technical Development in Sweden).

The requirements cover a wide range of issues: environment, ergonomics, usability, emission of electrical and magnetic fields, energy consumption and electrical and fire safety.

The environmental demands concern among other things restrictions on the presence and use of heavy metals, brominated and chlorinated flame retardants, CFCs (freons), and chlorinated solvents. The product must be prepared for recycling and the manufacturer is obliged to have an environmental plan, which must be adhered to in each country where the company conducts its operations policy. The energy requirements include a demand that the monitor after a certain period of inactivity shall reduce its power consumption to a lower level, in one or more stages. The length of time to reactivate the monitor shall be reasonable for the user.

Labelled products must meet strict environmental demands, for example in respect of the reduction of electric and magnetic fields, along with physical and visual ergonomics and good usability.

Environmental Requirements

Brominated flame retardants are present in printed circuit boards, cables, wires, casings and housings. In turn, they delay the spread of fire. Up to thirty percent of the plastic in a computer casing can consist of flame retardant substances. These are related to another group of environmental toxins, PCBs, which are suspected to give rise to similar harm, including reproductive damage in fish eating birds and mammals, due to the bioaccumulative processes.

Flame retardants have been found in human blood and researchers fear that disturbances in foetus development may occur. z

TCO'95 demand requires that plastic components weighing more than 25 grams must not contain organically bound chlorine and bromine.

Lead

Lead can be found in picture tubes, display screens, solders and capacitors. Lead damages the nervous system and in higher doses, causes lead poisoning. z

TCO'95 requirement Permits the inclusion of lead since no replacement has yet been developed.

Cadmium

Cadmium is present in rechargeable batteries and in the colour generating layers of certain computer displays. Cadmium damages the nervous system and is toxic in high doses. z

TCO'95 requirement states that batteries may not contain more than 25 ppm (parts per million) of cadmium. The colour-generating layers of display screens must not contain any cadmium.

Mercury

Mercury is sometimes found in batteries, relays and switches. Mercury damages the nervous system and is toxic in high doses. z

TCO'95 requirement states that batteries may not contain more than 25 ppm (parts per million) of mercury. It also demands that no mercury is present in any of the electrical or electronics components concerned with the display unit.

CFCs (freons)

CFCs (freons) are sometimes used for washing printed circuit boards and in the manufacturing of expanded foam for packaging. CFCs break down ozone and thereby damage the ozone layer in

the stratosphere, causing increased reception on Earth of ultraviolet light with consequent increased risks of skin cancer (malignant melanoma). z

The relevant TCO'95 requirement: Neither CFCs nor HCFCs may be used during the manufacturing of the product or its packaging.

TCO'99-Ecological requirements for personal computers (TCO'99 applied model only)

Congratulations!

You have just purchased a TCO'99 approved and labelled product! Your choice has provided you with a product developed for professional use. Your purchase has also contributed to reducing the burden on the environment and also to the further development of environmentally adapted electronics products.

This product meets the requirements for the TCO'99 scheme which provides for an international environmental and quality labelling labelling of personal computers. The labelling scheme was developed as a joint effort by the TCO(The Swedish Confederation of Professional Employees),

Svenska Naturskyddsforeningen(The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation), Statens

Energimyndighet(The Swedish National Energy Administration) and SEMKO AB.

The requirements cover a wide range of issuse: environment, ergonomics, usability, reduction of electric and magnetic fields, energy consumption and electrical safety.

Why do we have environmentally labelled computers?

In many countries, environmental labelling has become an established method for encouraging the adaptation of goods and services to the environment. The main problem, as far as computers and other electronics equipment are concerned, is that environmentally harmful substances are used both in the products and during their manufacture. Since it is not so far possible to satisfactorily recycle the majority of electronics equipment, most of these potentially damaging substances sooner or later enter nature.

There are also other characteristics of a computer, such as energy consumption levels, that are important from the viewpoints of both the work (internal) and natural (external) environments.

Since all methods of electricity generation have a negative effect on the environment (e.g. acidic and climate-influencing emissions, radioactive waste), it is vital to save energy. Electronics equipment in offices is often left running continuously and thereby consumes a lot of energy.

What does labelling involve?

The environmental demands has been developed by Svenska Naturskyddsforeningen (The

Swedish Society for Nature Conservation). These demands impose restrictions on the presence and use of heavy metals, brominated and chlorinated flame retardants, CFCs(freons)and chlorinated solvents, among other things. The product must be prepared for recycling and the manufacturer is obliged to have an environmental policy which must be adhered to in each country where the company implements its operational policy.

The energy requirements include a demand that the computer and/or display, after a certain period of inactivity, shall reduce its power consumption to a lower level in one or more stages. The length of time to reactivate the computer shall be reasonable for the user.

Environmental requirements

Flame retardants

Flame retardants are present in printed circuit boards, cables, wires, casings and housings. Their purpose is to prevent, or at least to delay the spread of fire. Up to 30% of the plastic in a computer casing can consist of flame retardant substances. Most flame retardants contain bromine or chloride, and those flame retardants are chemically related to another group of environmental

toxins, PCBs. Both the flame retardants containing bromine or chloride and the PCBs are suspected of giving rise to severe health effects, including reproductive damage in fish-eating birds and mammals, due to the bio-accumulative* processes. Flame retardants have been found in human blood and researchers fear that disturbances in foetus development may occur.

The relevant TCO'99 demand requires that plastic components weighing more than 25 grams must not contain flame retardants with organically bound bromine or chlorine. Flame retardants are allowed in the printed circuit boards since no substitutes are available.

Cadmium**

Cadmium is present in rechargeable batteries and in the colour-generating layers of certain computer displays. Cadmium damages the nervous system and is toxic in high doses. The relevant TCO'99 requirement states that batteries, the colour-generating layers of display screens and the electrical or electronics components must not contain any cadmium.

Mercury**

Mercury is sometimes found in batteries, relays and switches. It damages the nervous system and is toxic in high doses. The relevant TCO'99 requirement states that batteries may not contain any mercury. It also demands that mercury is not present in any of the electrical or electronics components associated with the labelled unit. There is however one exception. Mercury is, for the time being, permitted in the back light system of flat panel monitors as today there is no commercially available alternative. TCO aims on removing this exception when a Mercury free alternative is available.

CFCs (freons)

The relevant TCO'99 requirement states that neither CFCs nor HCFCs may be used during the manufacture and assembly of the product. CFCs (freons) are sometimes used for washing printed circuit boards. CFCs break down ozone and thereby damage the ozone layer in the stratosphere, causing increased reception on earth of ultraviolet light with e.g. increased risks of skin cancer

(malignant melanoma) as a consequence.

Lead**

Lead can be found in picture tubes, display screens, solders and capacitors. Lead damages the nervous system and in higher doses, causes lead poisoning. The relevant TCO'99 requirement permits the inclusion of lead since no replacement has yet been developed.

* Bio-accumulative is defined as substances which accumulate within living organisms.

** Lead, Cadmium and Mercury are heavy metals which are Bio-accumulative.

Natural Color Software Program

One of the recent problems in using a computer is that the color of the images printed out by a printer or other images scanned by a scanner or a digital camera are not the same as those shown on the monitor.

The Natural Color S/W is the very solution for this problem. It is a color administration system developed by Samsung Electronics in association with Korea Electronics & Telecommunications

Research Institute (ETRI). This system is available only for Samsung monitors and makes the color of the images on the monitor the same as the printed or scanned images.

For more information, refer to Help (F1) in the software program.

How to install the Natural Color software

Insert the CD included with the Samsung monitor into the CD-ROM Drive. Then, the initial screen of the program installation will be executed. Click Natural Color on the initial screen to install the Natural Color software. To install the program manually, insert the CD included with the Samsung monitor into the CD-ROM Drive, click the [Start] button of Windows and then select [Execute].

Enter D:\color\eng\setup.exe and then press the [Enter] key.

(If the drive where the CD is inserted is not D:\, enter the applicable drive.)

How to delete the Natural Color software program

Select [Setting]/[Control Panel] on the [Start] menu and then double-click [Add/Delete a program].

Select Natural Color from the list and then click the [Add/Delete] button.

MouScreen™ S/W

MouScreen Program requires built-in USB for use with SyncMaster Products.

(Note: SyncMaster 1200NF does not support MouScreen.)

MouScreen is a software program that controls your monitor settings using the USB (Universal

Serial Bus) interface.

All monitor settings, adjustments and controls can be managed by the use of the mouse alone.

You may select menus or sub-functions by simply clicking the left mouse button and then making the adjustment by dragging the selected icons.

Installation Requirements

As MouScreen uses a USB connection with your host system, MouScreen can be installed only on systems with a Samsung monitor that is equipped with a USB port.

Before Running MouScreen V2.01

First, check to ensure the USB port of the monitor is connected to your computer by a root or hub USB port.

If not connected properly, the MouScreen program will not run, displaying the following message:

If the above message is displayed, and the monitor is properly connected to the computer, this means that the operating system has not recognized the USB monitor. Disconnect and then reconnect the USB connection, and run the program again.

Uninstalling MouScreen V2.01 from Your Computer

To uninstall MouScreen 2.01 from your system, follow either one of these procedures:

Click Start, Programs, MouScreen 2.01, Uninstall MouScreen 2.01 on your Windows' desktop or click Settings, Control Panel, Program Add/Remove and then click Add/Remove after selecting MouScreen 2.01 in the Program list.

Matters to note when changing modes

Make sure your MouScreen program is closed before changing the vertical frequency or resolution.

Otherwise, the program may not work properly as data stored in the monitor may be different from those in the program.

If you close and rerun the program, it will work properly because it reads the modified data.

Conflict with OSD

In principle, the OSD (on-screen display) does not work when this program runs on the system.

As the program shares internal data with the OSD, it will not work properly. Close the

MouScreen program before running the OSD.
