the illumination of the ME T ER indicator while the YA RD indicator is turned off. If you are ch a n g i n g from meters to yards, the opposite will occur. Note: The YARDAGE PRO ® COMPACT 800 will return to the last setting used, each time the unit is turned on.

T a r g e t i n g M o d e s The YA RD AGE PRO ® COMPACT 800 incorporates exclusive targeting mode s that allow you to adjust the performance parameters of the unit to suit yo u r s p ecific situation and environment. The different targeting modes available are listed belo w :

S TA N D A R D ( LCD Indicator - none) – This setting allows most targets to be distanced up to

800 yards. Used for moderately reflective targets that are t ypical of most distancing situatio n s .

N o t e : If the user encounters difficulty ranging to targets in the standard mode, the other modes listed below can be use d. The minimum distance in the standard mode is 20 yards.

S C A N ( LCD Indicator - “SCAN”) – When the P o w e r button is held down longer than 3 sec o n d s , the unit transitions to SCAN mode. This mode allows the range to be continuously updated as lo n g as the P o w e r button remains depressed.

Y A R D A G E P R O ®

Your YA RD AGE PRO ® COMPACT 80 0 is a prec i s ion instrument designe d to provide many years of enjoyment. This booklet will help yo u achieve optimum performance by explaining its adjustments and features as well as how to care for this fine instrument. To ensure optimal pe rformance and lo n g e v i ty, please read these instructions before using your YA RD AGE PRO ® COM PACT 80 0 .

I N T R O D U C T I O N

The YA RD AG E PRO ® COMPACT 80 0 emits invisible, eyesafe, infrared energy pulses. Sophisticated circuitry and a high speed clock are used to instantaneo u s l y calculate distances, by measuring the time it takes for each pulse to travel from the rangefinder, to the target, and back .

The ranging ac c u r acy of the YA RD AGE PRO ® COM PACT 800 is plus or minus two yards / meters under mo st circumstances. The unit will only display even numbers. The maximum range of the instrument depends on the reflec t i v i ty of the target. The maximum distance for mos t o b j ects is 800 yards / 720 meters while for highly reflective objects the maximum is

9 30 yards / 850 meters. Note: You will get both longer and shorter max imum distances depending on the reflective properties of the particular target and the environmental conditions at the time the object is being distanced to.

The color, surface finish, size and shape of the target all effect reflec t i v i ty and range. The brighte r the color, the longer the range. Red is highly reflective, for example, and allows longer ranges than the color black, which is the least reflective color. A shiny finish provides more range than a dull one. A small target is more difficult to range than a larger target. The angle to the target also has an effe ct. Shooting to a target at a 90 degree angle (where the target surface is perpendicular to the flight path of the emitted energy pulses) provides good range while a steep angle on the other hand, provides limited ranging. In addition, lighting conditions (e.g. the amo u n t of sunlight) will affect the ranging capabilities of the unit. The less light (e.g. overcast skies) the f a rther the unit’s maximum range will be. Conve rsely, very sunny days will decrease the unit’s m a ximum range.

While looking thro ugh the mo nocular, depress the power button once to activate the inview display system (LCD). Aim the YA RD AG E PRO ®

COMPACT 800 at a target at least 20 yards away, depress and hold the power button down until range reading is displaye d. Release the power button. Note: Once activated, the YARDAGE PRO ®

COMPACT 800’s LCD will remain active and display the last distance measurement for 8 seconds.

You can depre ss the power button again at any time to distance to a new target. As with any laser device, it is not recommended to directly view the emissions for long periods of time with magnified lenses.

R A I N ( LCD Indicator - “RA IN”) – Pr ec i p i t a t ion, such as rain drops or snow flakes, can reflec t energy pulse s emitted by the YA RD AGE PRO ® COM PACT 800 thereby contaminating the primary target’s distance me asurement. By selecting the rain mode, feedback from energy pulses r e f l ecting off prec i p i t a t ion will be ignored and an uncontaminated measurement obtained.

R E F L E C T I V E ( LCD Indicator - “REF L”) – Used when targeting highly reflec tive targets (e.g.

r e f l ectors, stop signs, etc.). Increases effective distance of the device on reflective targets up to

9 30 yards or 8 50 meters. Note: In this mode, the unit’s sensitivity to non-cooperative targets is decreased thereby reducing the maximum ranging distance for these type of objects.

> 1 5 0 ( LCD Indicator - “>15 0”) – This mode can be use d to ignore energy pulses reflecting off o b j ects less than 150 - 165 yards / meters a way. It would typically be use d when distancing through brush to an object further than 150 yards / meters away. Note: In this mode, the system will not measure to targets less than 150 yards / meters.

To select between these modes, while looking through the mo nocular, depress and release the mode button. Each successive depression of the mode button will a ctivate a different mod e d e s i g n a t ion in the following order; 1) standard (no indicator), 2) rain (“RA IN”), 3) reflec t i v e

( “ R EF L”), 4) >150 (“>150”) and then back to standard (no indicator). Note: The YARDAGE PRO ®

COMPACT 800 will return to the last setting used, each time the unit is turned-on.

L O W B A T T E R Y C H A R G E ( LCD Indicator - ) – When b oth dashes inside the batter y s y m bol are displayed, the battery is fully charged. When the dashes start to fade away, it means the batter y charge is getting low a nd the 4 AAA alkaline batteries should be replac e d .

S P E C I F I C A T I O N S :

O p t i c a l D e s i g n The YA RD AGE PRO ® COMPACT 800 features a Perma Foc u s ® mo nocular optical system for viewing your target. A liquid cr ystal display (LCD) is mo u n t e d within the optical system and when activated, displays a reticle for targeting, yard / meter and mode designations, and low batter y indicators. Inherent in the manufacturing pro cess are small b l a ck spots that appear in the optical system. These are a natural ch a r acteristic of the LCD , c a n not be fully eliminated in the manufacturing process and do n ot affect the distancing performance of the unit.

The YA RD AGE PRO’s sophisticated circuitry allows you to select betw e e n v a r ious units of measure and targeting modes. In addition, your YA RD AGE PRO’s LCD incorporates illuminated indicators that advise you when the laser is active, what the prec i s io n tolerances of a specific measurement are and when the battery charge is low. A s u m m a ry of these features is presented belo w :

U n i t o f M e a s u r e O p t i o n s

The YA RD AGE PRO ® COM PAC T

800 can be used to measure distances in yards or meters. The unit of measure indicators are loc ated in the uppe r right port ion of the LCD. To select betw e e n yards and meters lo ok through the mo nocular, depress the “mode“ button (front button of the unit) and hold it down for approximately 5 seconds. If you are changing from yards to meters, a change in unit of measure will be indicated by

Gently blow a way any dust or debris on the lenses (or use a soft lens brush). To remove dirt or fingerprints, clean with a soft cotton clo t h , rubbing in a circular mo t ion. Use of a coarse cloth or unnec e s s a ry rubbing may s c r a t ch the lens surface and eventually cause permanent damage. For a mo r e t horough cleaning, pho t ographic lens tissue and pho t og r a p h i c - type lens cleaning fluid or isopropyl alcohol may be used. Always apply the fluid to the cleaning cloth - never directly on the lens.

TROUBLE SHOOTING TABLE

Unit does not turn on - LCD does not illuminate:

• Depress power button.

• Check and if necessary, replace battery.

Unit powers down (display goes blank when attempting to power the laser):

• The batteries are either weak or low quality. Replace the batteries with good quality alkaline batteries.

There is no reset button to clear last range reading before ranging another target:

• The last range reading does not need to be cleared before ranging another target. Simply aim at the new target using the

LCD’s reticle, depress the power button and hold until new range reading is displayed.

Target range cannot be obtained:

• Make sure LCD is illuminated.

• Make sure that the power button is being depressed (as opposed to mode button).

• Make sure that nothing, such as your hand or finger, is blocking the objective lenses (lenses cl osest to the target) that emit and receive the laser pulses.

• Make sure unit is held steady while depressing power button.

• Make sure that the targeting mode selected is the appropriate mode for that specific situation / environment. Each targeting mode (SCAN, REFL, RA IN and >150) has a different minimum distance and sensitivity to a specific target’s r e f l ec t i v i ty levels.
