Here are the new performance/value leaders in quality marine binoculars
—using ultra-strong, lightweight, polycarbonate housings instead of metal
alloys, Mariner XL 7x50s cut both weight and cost without cutting corners.
They're 100% waterproof with bright multi-coated Fujinon optics and extra
long (18mm) eye relief.In the compass-equipped model, the compass and
reticle display are clearly visible through the left eyepiece. For use after
dark, an energy-saving LED nightlight is built in. To maintain compass
accuracy and reduce the potential for electrical interference, the control
pushbutton and battery are located on the other side of the binocular, in the
right tube. For added protection, should your Mariner XL ever go over-
board, its closed-cell foam flotation neckstrap will keep it safely afloat.

surveillance by stabilizing the bright, ultra-sharp optics, not the entire binocular. It
makes spotting and tracking objects easy, even from moving planes, cars, ships,

Fujinon's high-power STAgiscore—12X or 16X magnification—is compact, light

The relationship between high
power and jittery images.
When you're standing still, on dry ground, holding a conven-
tional 7 or 8 power binocular, studying a stationary object,
it's fairly easy to enjoy a big, steady image. But as binocular
magnification increases, the image area shrinks and things as
minor as the pulse in your hands are transformed into jumpy,
jittery images. Using higher powered binoculars — 10,12 or
14X — literally magnifies the problems with dizzying and
fatiguing effects. Tripods can help. Some image stabilizing
binoculars help overcome the high power “jitters.”

image stabilizing binocular.
Like the world's first internally stabilized binocular, Fujinon's
STABISCOPE (see back page), the TECHNO-STABI utilizes a gim-
baled frame with erecting prisms, but replaces a single,
heavy, costly and power-hungry high-speed gyro motor with
two advanced, direct-drive motors (much like those found in
CD players and disk drives). With no waiting period for the
gyro to get “up to speed,” image stability is virtually instant
and constant.
Each direct drive motor responds to its own piezo- vibration
sensor and gyro position sensor, — one set of sensors for
horizontal motion (AZIMUTH) and one for the vertical
ELEVATION). As the sensors detect any vibration or motion,
the CPU processes the incoming signals and initiates the
direct drive motor response required to make the necessary
corrections. The result is smooth and seamless, allowing rapid
scanning both horizontally and vertically, without lags. And

powered up,but do not use it for one minute, it shuts itself off
automatically.
Compared with the average 7 or 8 power binocular,the 14X40

Like Fujinon's 14X40 TECHNO-STABI, the new TECHNO-STABI,
JR. utilizes a gimbaled frame with erecting prisms, position

stability.
Each direct drive motor responds to its own piezo-
motion sensor and gyro position sensor — one set for
horizontal motion and one for the vertical motion. As the
sensors detect any motion, the CPU processes the
incoming signals and initiates direct drive motor
corrections. The result is smooth and seamless. You can
scan both horizontally and vertically without lags. And the
individual direct drive motors, operating only when
needed, deliver higher operating efficiency, reduced power
consumption, and longer operating life.

not used for one minute, it shuts itself off automatically.

Before you buy any "waterproof" binocular, please read this.
A rubber coating does not make a binocular water-
proof. Rubber coatings make binoculars easier to
grasp and can reduce damage when dropped.
This is how the military—and Fujinon—define:
Waterproof -- To be waterproof, a binocular must be
immersed in 2 meters of water for two weeks with absolutely
no penetration into the housing. Water-resistant, weather-
proof and other terms do not mean waterproof.
Here's more to think about before you buy...
Coatings -- Coatings are applied to optical surfaces to
reduce reflection and increase light transmission. All bino-
culars have coatings at least on the objective and ocular
lenses. The best binoculars are those in which every optical
surface is coated, preferably with as many as 13 or more
coatings each measuring less than a millimicron.
