The ADB Wi-Fi system allows you to remote control any ADB ISIS

®

desk

from wherever you are in your venue: on and off stage, in the auditorium, the handheld

Remote Control unit serves as a substitute for the front control panel of a desk. Most of the desk’s functions are available via the Wi-Fi Remote Control.

The ADB Wi-Fi software runs on any Pocket PC with Windows Mobile 2003.

The ADB Wi-Fi Remote Control uses the standard wireless network technologies.

4. Technical Specifications

The ADB Wi-Fi Remote Control uses standard wireless network technologies.

The performance characteristics such as operating range are defined by the networking equipment and its set-up.

On a Wi-Fi Network with ADB Wi-Fi software there are no limits to the amount of

Access Points and Pocket PC’s.

The required number of Access Points and the distances between Wi-Fi Nodes depends on the characteristics of the selected Wi-Fi equipment and the environment in which the network is set up (such as the presence of metal structures etc.) To have a good estimation, please refer to the Instruction Manual of the selected Access

Point.

The Access Point selected by ADB is the D-Link DWL-2000AP

Manufacturer’s characteristics of the D-Link DWL-2000AP:

• Indoor: 100 m

• Outdoor: 400 m

5. Get connected

There are different ways to connect the Remote Control to your desk(s). This User

Manual describes some of those connection set-ups. For other system lay-outs please contact ADB’s ISIS

®

The following chapter describes these configurations:

• Basic Connection: one lighting desk and one Access Point.

• Standard Connection: one/several desks and one/several Access Points.

• Customized Connection: one/several desks and one/several Access Points, with security (Access Control).

5.1. Basic Connection

Connect a standalone desk or a Master/Slave system with one Access Point.

Hardware & Software Requirements:

• Pocket PC with Win Mobile 2003 and integrated wireless LAN

• ADB

Software

• An Ethernet Switch is required in case of a Master/Slave system

• Wireless Access Point : D-link DWL-200AP

• Ethernet cables (the selected WAP is Auto-MDI/MDIX

• Desk with ISIS

5.2. Standard and Customized Connection

These set-ups are suitable to connect one or more desks with one or more Access

Points.

Hardware & Software Requirements:

• Pocket PC Win Mobile 2003 and integrated wireless LAN

• ADB

• Wireless Access Point : D-link DWL-200AP

• ADB Desk with ISIS

®

2.10 software (or later)

• Ethernet Switch (is not required when using one desk, one Access Point and the distance between Desk and Access Point does not exceed 100 m.)

• Ethernet cables (one cable for each node

The Ethernet Port on the DWL-2000AP is Auto-MDI/MDIX. You can use either a standard or a cross-link Ethernet cable to connect the Ethernet port of the DWL-2000AP to an Ethernet switch or a console

The following chapters describe the setup of a Wi-Fi remote controller. Dedicated paragraphs describe the ‘Basic set-up’ and the ‘Customized setup’. Only the part which is necessary for your requirements needs to be set up. The set-up is simple, but needs to be done correctly. We strongly recommend to read through this document before attempting any installation or configuration of your equipment.

6. ADB Wi-Fi software installation

You will need

• a Pocket PC Windows Mobile 2003 and integrated wireless LAN

• a Windows PC

• a USB cable to connect both

• the CD with ActiveSync, supplied with the Pocket PC

Step 1: Installing the Wi-Fi software requires a communication link between the

Pocket PC and the PC with a Windows operating system. To establish this link you will need Microsoft ActiveSync on the Windows PC. This program is delivered with the Pocket PC. If ActiveSync is not installed on the PC, please refer to the Pocket PC

User Manual and install this software.

Step 2: Once the link (by USB) between the Pocket PC and the Windows PC has been established, you are ready to install the ADB Wi-Fi software on your Pocket PC.

you will find a directory labeled Wi-Fi PPC. This directory includes the ADB Wi-Fi Remote Control file.

Double click the icon to launch the installation.

Press 'Yes' when the pop-up window “Installing applications” appears

Click OK when the pop-up window “Application downloading complete” appears.

The ADB Wi-Fi software has now been installed on the Pocket PC.

Start the ADB Wi-Fi Remote Control program on the Pocket PC.

Keystrokes:

<START> <PROGRAMS> < ADB WI-FI REMOTE CONTROL>

If the software is used for the first time it is necessary to fill in a registration code.

7. Registration of ADB Wi-Fi software

After starting the program (First time or Evaluation) the “Registration” window will appear. You need a software registration key to unlock the software. To receive a registration key it is necessary to fill in the Registration Form

If you have a registration code: fill in the code and confirm with the Registration button. The ADB Wi-Fi software has been registered.

If you don’t have a registration code: click the Evaluation button. The ADB Wi-Fi software will run like a registered version for a short period of time. This allows you to test and configure your ADB Wi-Fi software.

8. Access Point setup

This chapter describes the setup for the D-Link DWL-2000AP Access Point. Other

Access Points may work but are not supported by ADB.

D-Link DWL-2000AP

8.1. Basic configuration

The Basic Configuration does not require any configuration of the Access Point itself.

It is the simplest set-up, but it has no privacy / security WEP

Supply the Access Point with 230 V.

Connect the Access Point with an Ethernet cable (standard or cross-link) to an ISIS

® desk, or to an Ethernet Switch on your lighting network. Configuration is done.

SECURITY WARNING: This basic configuration has no privacy / security (WEP)!

8.2. Customized configuration

A Customized Configuration requires a PC with a Windows operating system. The set-up procedure is for an Access Point set to its original factory default settings.

This customized configuration procedure describes just some of the possible Access

Point configurations. For more specific settings, please refer to the Access Point User

Manual.

Connect the Access Point to the Windows PC with an Ethernet cable (standard or cross-link).

To configure an Access Point it is necessary to give a fixed IP address to your PC

We strongly recommend that you make a note of your original settings on the PC before you modify any. This will help you to restore the original configuration of the

PC later on.

• Configure a fixed IP address on the PC

IP address must be in the range 192.xxx.xxx.xxx

The “Automatically detect” setting must be disabled; it is found in the LAN settings of the PC. You may need to temporarily set it to Disabled:

• Check that the ‘Automatically detect’ setting is disabled

Your PC is now ready to configure the Access Point.

• Open the Web browser on the PC and surf to http://192.168.0.50

• AP Name: the name you choose for the Access Point (e.g. AP UpStage

Left)

• SSID

: the name you choose for the WLAN (e.g. Studio1)

• Channels: your Channel number => You can change the setting to match an existing wireless network (Default setting is channel 6)

• WEP: Enabled / Disabled => Change the encryption settings, for more secure wireless communication

• WEP Encryption: select 64 Bit or 128 Bit

• WEP Mode: HEX

• Key: Enable key index 1 and give a key 1 =>

64 bit = 10 digits

128 bit = 26 digits

Do not use the number shown in the example (1234567890).

Write down this WEP Key number; you will need it later on to configure the

Pocket PC.

Press Apply to finalize the setup of the Access Point.

Note: SSID => must be identical for all Access Points on the same network!

It is possible that you will receive the pop-up message 'Please turn on Wireless communication switch!' on your Pocket PC. This means that the hardware switch for

Wi-Fi applications is not switched on.

Set it to “On”. The switch is on the bottom of the Pocket PC.

WARNING: look carefully! The switch next to the Wireless Communication switch is the hardware-reset switch!

The 'Configure Wireless Network' window will display all the available Wireless networks. This list includes the default network. In case of a ‘basic configuration’ for the Access Point, this default network is given by your Access Point. In case of a

‘customized configuration’, the name can be customized. www.adblighting.com

Enable wireless by tapping the Wireless Icon and select an Access Point to connect to. Confirm with the “connect button”

• Configure the Network Card; Select the IEEE 802.11b WLAN Adapter.

• Enter the specific IP address

IP address: The Pocket PC is a part of the ADB Lighting Network, so its IP address must start with a 2, as required by the

ArtNet specification.

10. ISIS

®

2.10 and Wi-Fi

A Wi-Fi handheld remote is an Ethernet Node. Connecting this node to an ISIS

®

desk is similar as configuring any other Ethernet node. The configuration is done in the point-to-point configuration.

It is the ISIS

®

desk that decides to link to the Wi-Fi Remote Controller unit. A

Wi-Fi Remote Controller can only control one system at the time! A system being a

Stand-alone desk; or a Master/slave/screen system.

Power-up sequence: it is necessary to switch on the Wi-Fi Remote Controller (the

Pocket PC) and have the software up and running before connecting the Wi-Fi to an

ISIS

®

desk.

11.1. Introduction

The ADB Wi-Fi remote software for Pocket PC allows you to remote control any

ISIS

desk from wherever you are in your in venue. This very compact and lightweight hand-held remote control unit offers you all the comfort of remote access to the most important functions on your lighting desk:

• Channels, groups and fields

• Loading and recording of memories

• Re-playing of pre-recorded macros

• Direct access to dimmers (through the desk)

The ADB Wi-Fi Remote Controller is bidirectional. All manipulations performed on the

Wi-Fi Remote are simultaneously generated and visible on the ISIS manipulations performed on the ISIS

®

desk, and all

11.2. Channel

Select the channel screen by pressing the channel tab. The channel and group functions are similar as in ISIS

®

software.

Field selection: No field is selected after the remote is turned on. The Wi-Fi remote will work in the selected field of the ISIS

®

desk. It is possible to change this field with the Wi-Fi Remote. Tap the Field button. The Field selection screen will open. Select the required field and value and tap OK. (see drawing below) www.adblighting.com

11.3. Memory

Select the Memory screen by pressing the Memory Tab. The Memory functions are similar to those in the ISIS

®

software.

Pressing a digit together with a function (Load/Rec) will directly be a memory number.

11.4. Macro

Select the Macro screen by tapping the Macro Tab. The Macro functions are similar to those in the ISIS

®

software

To Play a Macro: <MACRO NUMBER> AND <RUN>

To Stop all running Macros: <STOP>

11.5. Dimmer

Select the Dimmer screen by tapping the Dimmer Tab. The Dimmer functions are similar to those in the ISIS

®

software.

Selecting a dimmer will act directly on the dimmer (through the desk) and not on a channel. This direct-to-dimmer action is not affected by a Patch, field selection or

Grand Master.

Keystrokes: Select a dimmer and enter a value.

Prev D and Nxt D buttons allow the control of the next or previous dimmer without entering a new value; the value of the first selection remains.

Selection other screen (Tab) will automatically force all direct dimmer outputs to value 0. The direct dimmer output uses HTP.
