ADB Wi-Fi Remote Control
3. Introduction
The ADB Wi-Fi system allows you to remote control any ADB ISIS
®
desk
from wherever you are in your venue: on and off stage, in the auditorium, the handheld
Remote Control unit serves as a substitute for the front control panel of a desk. Most of the desk’s functions are available via the Wi-Fi Remote Control.
The ADB Wi-Fi software runs on any Pocket PC with Windows Mobile 2003.
The ADB Wi-Fi Remote Control uses the standard wireless network technologies.

ADB Wi-Fi Remote Control
4. Technical Specifications
The ADB Wi-Fi Remote Control uses standard wireless network technologies.
The performance characteristics such as operating range are defined by the networking equipment and its set-up.
On a Wi-Fi Network with ADB Wi-Fi software there are no limits to the amount of
Access Points and Pocket PC’s.
The required number of Access Points and the distances between Wi-Fi Nodes depends on the characteristics of the selected Wi-Fi equipment and the environment in which the network is set up (such as the presence of metal structures etc.) To have a good estimation, please refer to the Instruction Manual of the selected Access
Point.
The Access Point selected by ADB is the D-Link DWL-2000AP
Manufacturer’s characteristics of the D-Link DWL-2000AP:
• Indoor: 100 m
• Outdoor: 400 m

5. Get connected
There are different ways to connect the Remote Control to your desk(s). This User
Manual describes some of those connection set-ups. For other system lay-outs please contact ADB’s ISIS
®
Support team. E-mail [email protected]
The following chapter describes these configurations:
• Basic Connection: one lighting desk and one Access Point.
• Standard Connection: one/several desks and one/several Access Points.
• Customized Connection: one/several desks and one/several Access Points, with security (Access Control).
5.1. Basic Connection
Connect a standalone desk or a Master/Slave system with one Access Point.
Hardware & Software Requirements:
• Pocket PC with Win Mobile 2003 and integrated wireless LAN
• ADB
Software
• An Ethernet Switch is required in case of a Master/Slave system
• Wireless Access Point : D-link DWL-200AP
• Ethernet cables (the selected WAP is Auto-MDI/MDIX
)
• Desk with ISIS
®
2.10 software
5.2. Standard and Customized Connection
These set-ups are suitable to connect one or more desks with one or more Access
Points.
Hardware & Software Requirements:
• Pocket PC Win Mobile 2003 and integrated wireless LAN
• ADB
Software
• Wireless Access Point : D-link DWL-200AP
• ADB Desk with ISIS
®
2.10 software (or later)
• Ethernet Switch (is not required when using one desk, one Access Point and the distance between Desk and Access Point does not exceed 100 m.)
• Ethernet cables (one cable for each node
)
2
The Ethernet Port on the DWL-2000AP is Auto-MDI/MDIX. You can use either a standard or a cross-link Ethernet cable to connect the Ethernet port of the DWL-2000AP to an Ethernet switch or a console
3
A node is any device connected to a network. Nodes can be computers, personal digital assistants
(Pocket PC), lighting desks, or other network appliances. www.adblighting.com

ADB Wi-Fi Remote Control
The following chapters describe the setup of a Wi-Fi remote controller. Dedicated paragraphs describe the ‘Basic set-up’ and the ‘Customized setup’. Only the part which is necessary for your requirements needs to be set up. The set-up is simple, but needs to be done correctly. We strongly recommend to read through this document before attempting any installation or configuration of your equipment.
Good luck
☺ !

6. ADB Wi-Fi software installation
You will need
• a Pocket PC Windows Mobile 2003 and integrated wireless LAN
• a Windows PC
• a USB cable to connect both
• the CD with ActiveSync, supplied with the Pocket PC
Step 1: Installing the Wi-Fi software requires a communication link between the
Pocket PC and the PC with a Windows operating system. To establish this link you will need Microsoft ActiveSync on the Windows PC. This program is delivered with the Pocket PC. If ActiveSync is not installed on the PC, please refer to the Pocket PC
User Manual and install this software.
Step 2: Once the link (by USB) between the Pocket PC and the Windows PC has been established, you are ready to install the ADB Wi-Fi software on your Pocket PC.
On the ISIS
®
Software CD
you will find a directory labeled Wi-Fi PPC. This directory includes the ADB Wi-Fi Remote Control file.
Double click the icon to launch the installation.

8. Access Point setup
This chapter describes the setup for the D-Link DWL-2000AP Access Point. Other
Access Points may work but are not supported by ADB.
D-Link DWL-2000AP
8.1. Basic configuration
The Basic Configuration does not require any configuration of the Access Point itself.
It is the simplest set-up, but it has no privacy / security WEP
.
Supply the Access Point with 230 V.
Connect the Access Point with an Ethernet cable (standard or cross-link) to an ISIS
® desk, or to an Ethernet Switch on your lighting network. Configuration is done.
SECURITY WARNING: This basic configuration has no privacy / security (WEP)!
8.2. Customized configuration
A Customized Configuration requires a PC with a Windows operating system. The set-up procedure is for an Access Point set to its original factory default settings.
This includes IP address, password …
6
Wired Equivalent Privacy; a security protocol for wireless local area networks.
7
This Access Point has a Reset button to restore its original factory default settings; refer to the
D-Link DWL-2000AP User Manual.
Manual – page 12
Issue: 1.03 www.adblighting.com
ADB Wi-Fi Remote Control
This customized configuration procedure describes just some of the possible Access
Point configurations. For more specific settings, please refer to the Access Point User
Manual.
Connect the Access Point to the Windows PC with an Ethernet cable (standard or cross-link).
To configure an Access Point it is necessary to give a fixed IP address to your PC
.
We strongly recommend that you make a note of your original settings on the PC before you modify any. This will help you to restore the original configuration of the
PC later on.
• Configure a fixed IP address on the PC
IP address must be in the range 192.xxx.xxx.xxx

2.10 and Wi-Fi
A Wi-Fi handheld remote is an Ethernet Node. Connecting this node to an ISIS
®
desk is similar as configuring any other Ethernet node. The configuration is done in the point-to-point configuration.
It is the ISIS
®
desk that decides to link to the Wi-Fi Remote Controller unit. A
Wi-Fi Remote Controller can only control one system at the time! A system being a
Stand-alone desk; or a Master/slave/screen system.
Power-up sequence: it is necessary to switch on the Wi-Fi Remote Controller (the
Pocket PC) and have the software up and running before connecting the Wi-Fi to an
ISIS
®
desk.
The Subnet
of the Wi-Fi Remote and the Subnet of the ISIS
®
desk must be the same; if they’re different you won’t be able to establish a link between the Wi-Fi
Remote and the ISIS
®
lighting desk.

The ADB Wi-Fi remote software for Pocket PC allows you to remote control any
ISIS
®
desk from wherever you are in your in venue. This very compact and lightweight hand-held remote control unit offers you all the comfort of remote access to the most important functions on your lighting desk:
• Channels, groups and fields
• Loading and recording of memories
• Re-playing of pre-recorded macros
• Direct access to dimmers (through the desk)
The ADB Wi-Fi Remote Controller is bidirectional. All manipulations performed on the
Wi-Fi Remote are simultaneously generated and visible on the ISIS manipulations performed on the ISIS
®
®
desk, and all
desk are simultaneously generated and visible on the Wi-Fi Remote.
All manipulations performed on the Wi-Fi Remote or on the ISIS
