1. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

• Be sure to read the instructions in this section carefully before use.

• Make sure to observe the instructions in this manual as the conventions of safety symbols and messages regarded as very important precautions are included.

Safety Symbol and Message Conventions

Safety symbols and messages described below are used in this manual to prevent bodily injury and property damage which could result from mishandling. Before operating your product, read this manual first so you are thoroughly aware of the potential safety hazards as well as understand the safety symbols and messages.

WARNING

Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if mishandled, could result in death or serious personal injury.

When Installing the Unit

• Do not expose the unit to rain or an environment where it may be splashed by water or other liquids, as doing so may result in fire or electric shock.

• Do not cut, kink, otherwise damage nor modify the connection cables. In addition, avoid using the cables in close proximity to heaters, and never place heavy objects on the cables, as doing so may result in fire.

• Avoid installing or mounting the unit in unstable locations, such as on a rickety table or a slanted surface.

Doing so may result in the unit falling down and causing personal injury and/or property damage.

When the Unit is in Use

• Should the following irregularity be found during use, immediately switch off the circuit breaker of the junction panel to which the unit is connected. Then, contact your nearest TOA dealer. Make no further attempt to operate the unit in this condition as this may cause fire or electric shock.

· If you detect smoke or a strange smell coming from the unit.

· If water or any liquid gets into the unit

· If the unit falls, or the unit case breaks

· If the connection cables are damaged (exposure of the core, disconnection, etc.)

• Do not place cups, bowls, or other containers of liquid on top of the unit. If they accidentally spill into the unit, this may cause a fire or electric shock.

• Do not touch connection cables during thunder and lightning, as this may result in electric shock.

CAUTION

When Installing the Unit

• Avoid installing the unit in humid or dusty locations, in locations exposed to the direct sunlight, near the heaters, or in locations generating sooty smoke or steam as doing otherwise may result in fire.

When the Unit is in Use

• Do not place heavy objects on the unit as this may cause it to fall or break which may result in personal injury and/or property damage. In addition, the object itself may fall off and cause injury and/or damage.

• Cut off the power supply (24 VDC) to the unit for safety purposes when cleaning or leaving the unit unused for 10 days or more. A fire may result.

2. INSTALLATION PRECAUTION

Use the unit only with the voltage specified on the junction panel to which the unit is connected. Using a voltage higher than that which is specified may result in equipment failure.

3. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

A remote control unit for general-purpose broadcast, the RM-1100 can make broadcast to up to ten zones and simultaneously to the entire area. When using multiple RM-1100 units, priority order (First-in-first-out priority or

Individual unit priority) can be set among them.

4. FEATURES

• Uni-directional microphone suited to announcements.

• AUX input jack permits broadcast from the cassette deck or CD player.

• Internal compressor circuit prevents sound distortion caused by significantly large input during an announcement from the microphone.

• Connection cables can be routed from the rear or either side of the unit, facilitating installation in any place.

1 Power indicator

Lights when the power is switched on.

2 Busy indicator

Lights when the rack system or other remote control unit is in use.

3 Broadcast indicator

Only when this lamp is on, broadcast can be made from equipment connected to the AUX input. Pressing the microphone button allows an announcement to go through.

4 Power switch

Power is switched on and off with each depression of this switch.

5 All-zone broadcast indicator

Lights when the all-zone broadcast button is pressed.

6 Chime button

Pressing this button activates the main rack system's chime unit and sounds a chime. This button cannot be used if the chime unit is not connected.

7 Level meter

Indicates an output level. Check to confirm that the level is within the green area when using.

8 Microphone button

Press this button to make an announcement when the broadcast indicator is on.

9 All-zone button

Turns on or off all-zone broadcast.

10 Zone selector buttons

Turn on or off broadcast to the selected zone.

11 Zone indicators

Light when the corresponding zone selector button is pressed.

12 Name label

Used to show the name of each broadcasting zone.

Refer to p. 6 "8. NAME LABEL REPLACEMENT" when using the label.

13 Microphone volume control

Adjusts the microphone volume. Refer to p. 6 "7. HOW

TO USE THE VOLUME CONTROLS" for details.

14 AUX input volume control

Adjusts the AUX input volume. Refer to p. 6 "7. HOW

TO USE THE VOLUME CONTROLS" for details.

15 AUX input jack (-20 dBV/100 k Ω)

Connects to a cassette deck, etc. Microphones cannot be connected.

16 Terminals

Connect to cables from the Junction Panel JP-

0410, Pre-amplifier PP-025B or other remote control unit. Refer to p. 6 "9. CONNECTIONS" for details.

6. OPERATIONS

• Broadcast can be made only when the zone selector or all-zone broadcast button is pressed and the broadcast indicator lights.

• While the main rack system or other remote control unit is in use, the busy lamp remains lit. In such cases, wait till the indicator is extinguished.

• First-in-first-out priority or Individual unit priority can be set. It is impossible to make broadcast when other equipment given higher priority is in use. When equipment with lower priority is in use, if you press the zone selector or all-zone broadcast button, the broadcast indicator lights, permitting your broadcast to be made.

Check the priority relationship beforehand.

• When a cassette deck or CD player is connected to the AUX input jack, by pressing the all-zone broadcast or individual zone selector buttons, background music (BGM) can be broadcast to the selected zones.

[Hint on convenient use]

If broadcasting zones are always the same, leave the corresponding zone selector or all-zone broadcast button depressed.

Individual zone broadcast

1.

Press the power switch. (The power indicator lights.)

2.

Press the desired zone selector button.

(The broadcast indicator and the corresponding zone indicator both light.)

3.

Press the chime button. (The main rack system's chime unit is activated, and a chime plays.)

Note : The chime button cannot be used if the chime unit is not connected to the main rack system.

4.

Make an announcement while holding down the microphone button.

5.

Press the zone selector button again after broadcast completion. (The broadcast indicator and zone indicator are both extinguished.)

6.

Press the power switch again.

(The power indicator is extinguished.)

All-zone broadcast 1.

Press the power switch. (The power indicator lights.)

2.

Press the all-zone broadcast button.

(The broadcast indicator and the all-zone broadcast indicator both light.)

3.

Press the chime button. (The main rack system's chime unit is activated, and a chime plays.)

Note : The chime button cannot be used if the chime unit is not connected to the main rack system.

4.

Make an announcement while holding down the microphone button.

5.

Press the all-zone broadcast button again after broadcast completion. (The broadcast indicator and the all-zone indicator are both extinguished.)

6.

Press the power switch again.

(The power indicator is extinguished.)

7. HOW TO USE THE VOLUME CONTROLS

1. Using the Phillips screwdriver, rotate the microphone volume control ( 13 ) and AUX input volume control ( 14 ) on the bottom surface fully counter-clockwise.

2. Making an announcement from the microphone, rotate the microphone volume control clockwise to adjust the volume to an appropriate level.

3. Making broadcast from equipment connected to the AUX input, rotate the AUX input volume control clockwise to adjust the volume to an appropriate level.

8. NAME LABEL REPLACEMENT

1. Raise the center of the label cover panel to remove it. (Figure 1)

2. Replace the name label.

3. Fit the cover panel in place lightly squeezing both ends of the cover panel. (Figure 2)

9. CONNECTIONS

Connect the RM-1100 unit to the main rack as follows.

Connect the remote control output to the PP-025B Pre-amplifier Panel's line input jack. Use the twin shielded cable for connection.

Priority setting

First-in-first-out priority: Connect the First-in-first-out terminal of one remote control unit to the same terminal of another. Up to five units can be connected for the FIFO priority function.

Of the two remote control units, the unit making an announcement first takes precedence. While one unit is in use, other remote control unit cannot be used.

Individual unit priority: Connect the Individual unit priority/sending terminal of the remote control unit given higher priority to the Individual unit priority/receiving terminal of the unit with lower priority. Up to five units can be connected.

In this example, Remote Control Unit 1 takes precedence over Remote Control

Unit 2. While Unit 1 is making broadcast, Unit 2 cannot be used. Conversely, while

Unit 2 is making broadcast, Unit 1 can be used.

When not setting the priority order

When using only one RM-1100 unit or when using multiple units but not assigning priority, do not connect the

First-in-first-out terminal or Individual unit priority terminal.
