INTRODUCTION

GOLDMUND PROLOGOS MK2 Active Speaker

Goldmund was founded in 1978 and has ever since been dedicated to the accurate reproduction of sound and image.

At Goldmund, we strive to lead in the creation, development and manufacture of the industry’s most advanced technologies, including audio and video systems.

The guiding principle at Goldmund is to produce a precise sound with the least possible loss of quality through the different stages. Goldmund will never adopt a technology before it is sufficiently developed to satisfy the high quality standards we set. This is why

Goldmund has often rejected mainstream technologies and developed its own.

1 PRELIMINARIES

The PROLOGOS MK2 active speaker uses very innovative technologies to achieve a level of definition and neutrality never found before in a speaker system.

We have implemented a new version of our Leonardo software in this model which will allow the PROLOGOS MK2 to reach even better performances especially in the low range section.

Please read very carefully the following instructions. These high-precision speakers are extremely revealing and can provide the best sound only if they are used properly.

For exacting technicians, musicians, and all those who demand the very best in audio reproduction, we strongly recommend the use of the best associated components, especially electronics and cables.

2 UNPACKING

The PROLOGOS MK2 active speaker requires special attention during unpacking, we recommend two people for unpacking and installation of this unit, some handling steps necessitate a lot of care.

ATTENTION

If you need to return the speakers to the factory or to your local representative for a warranty repair, please note that it must be repacked in the original packing. This packaging has been designed especially to protect the speaker in transit. Use of alternative packaging will almost inevitably result in damage, which cannot be covered by the warranty.

Note:

The PROLOGOS MK2 has an event on the bottom base, which must not be obstructed. To avoid operational problems it is not recommended to put the speaker on a flat base like on a bookshelf, see next chapter Assembling the PROLOGOS MK2 frame.

3 SPEAKERS LOCALISATION

A rigid floor is very important for the optimal sonic result of your PROLOGOS.

In stereo, the ideal location of the speaker in the room has to be found by experiment.

Avoid standing the speakers in the corner of the room and try to set them away from any adjacent wall by 60cm (2 feet) minimum. The proper listening position is located by 1 to 1.5 times the distance between the speakers at equal distance from each. If the room size permits, try separating the speakers by minimum 3m (10’) to provide a large stereo image.

In multi-channel system, it is recommended to put the speakers as close as possible to the positions shown in the figure below:

Center

Front-Right

Front-Left

25° - 30°

100° - 115°

Listening position

Rear-Left

Rear-Right

Depending on the room acoustics, the speakers may be standing parallel or slightly tilted toward the listener.

ASSEMBLING THE PROLOGOS MK2 FRAME

First put the speaker on its side on the floor. Use a soft cushion to avoid damaging it.

Screw the pointed bar in the threading accessible in the speaker’s bottom plate (2).

Tighten it as much as you can.

Screw the two black wheels on each side of the PROLOGOS MK2 using the two provided screws (5).

Lift the speaker and put it on its frame (1).

Use the second wheel to fix the frame to the PROLOGOS. Tight it as much as possible (4).

Adjust the 4 leveling screws of each foot to provide a stable position to the speaker

(3), the weight of the speaker should be put on the pointed bar for a better mechanical grounding.

5 CONNECTIONS

Wiring:

Usable in any type of configuration, the PROLOGOS MK2 has built-in amplifiers with builtin input crossovers. The input is an unbalanced digital input (S/PDIF).

When used with a digital input signal, connect the digital cable to the digital input connector. Since a digital Spdif cable carries 2 channels you may link the digital output to the next speaker to transfer the second channel.

Wireless:

To achieve optimal performance, please observe the following points:

The PROLOGOS MK2 and the USB dongle or Wireless Transmitter should be placed in the same room.

There should be no metallic obstacles between the USB dongle or Wireless

Transmitter and the PROLOGOS, which could influence the wireless link.

The computer with the USB dongle should not be moved around during playback.

Wireless audio link range:

The range of the wireless audio link depends on several factors, such as the amount of

WiFi equipment used in proximity of the PROLOGOS MK2 system, as well as the building materials and the architecture of the room.

Depending on the above mentioned factors, the maximum range will normally be from 5 to

20 meters.

To use the PROLOGOS MK2 in wireless, follow these steps:

Connect the speaker to a mains outlet using the power cords contained in the box.

Attention:

Due to the high gain of the

PROLOGOS MK2 speaker, please make sure that the media player is set to a low output level, before connecting the dongle to the computer.

Note:

In most configurations, the ground wire from AC plug must absolutely be lifted on all amplifiers and on the

PROLOGOS MK2 connection to the

AC line. Otherwise a bad ground loop may make amplifiers oscillate and be destroyed.

5 CONNECTIONS (Ctd.)

Connect the USB dongle to an USB port on your computer or the Wireless

Transmitter to the corresponding output channel of your acoustic processor.

If you use the USB dongle: in your computer’s audio settings, select the USB dongle as the audio output. If you use the Wireless Transmitter: contact your

Goldmund representative who will be able to load and change the configuration file into your acoustic processor.

The system is now set up and ready to be used. The volume is set directly on the computer

(when used with the Dongle) or on the acoustic processor (when used with a Transmitter).

The PROLOGOS MK2 and the associated USB Goldmund dongle are delivered prepaired from the factory. This means that your speakers can only function with the dongle that was paired with it. However, if you would like to do a re-pairing of the speaker with the dongle for any reason, please follow these steps:

- Connect the USB dongle to your computer or the Wireless Transmitter to your acoustic processor.

- Insert a small screwdriver into the pairing hole located on the back panel of your speaker, just above the input RCA.

- Gently press the internal pairing button using the screwdriver.

- As soon as the pairing is done, the led locking led will light up.

- The pairing is done.

In case you lose your dongle, you can order another one from your distributor who will also pair it to your speakers.

The digital signal is treated with the Proteus technology. The PROLOGOS MK2 has no active filtering (hardware crossover).

The PROLOGOS MK2 uses a full digital filtering, the crossover is made by software inside the DSP speaker board.

Only an official Goldmund representative is able to load and change the configuration file, do not change it by yourself.

5 CONNECTIONS (Ctd.)

A wrong setting can damage the speakers; the warranty will not cover any factory change without the approval of an official Goldmund representative

The PROLOGOS MK2 is automatically powered ON when it receives modulation. When the digital input does not receive any data for 3 seconds, the drivers are muted. They are de-muted as soon as a signal is present on the digital input and the orange led will light up.

Main power must not be removed while the PROLOGOS MK2 is not muted (please wait 3 seconds after the music stops before removing the mains power).

6 RUNNING IN AND MAINTENANCE

The PROLOGOS MK2 active speaker has been tested at the factory. However, as any high quality speaker system, the PROLOGOS MK2 needs several days playing music before reaching the top sonic quality they are built for. The few first hours can be very frustrating for a demanding listener.

Do not hesitate to let them play quite loud for some time before attempting any real system tuning or position adjustment.

7 MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

To clean the metal case of the speaker, you can use a clean, soft, damp cloth. Dampen with water or a mild detergent solution. Avoid abrasive or harsh cleansers (e.g. Products containing sodium carbonate).

The identification plate is plated with precious metal. Simply clean it with a soft cloth, without any chemical solution.
