Windows 7
This section includes information on using Nexio Player with
Windows 7. Nexio Player requires Windows 7 x64 Professional or
Ultimate.
User Account
Nexio Player requires the Windows User Account Control settings to be set to the lowest option. Follow these steps to configure the
User Accounts.
1 Navigate to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > User
Accounts.
2 Select Change User Account Control settings.
3 Set the control to Never Notify.
4 Click OK.
Network Setting
By default, Windows 7 sees all new networks as “public” and therefore inhibits traffic. For a Windows machine with multiple adapters, where all adapters are connected to a trusted network, you must set Network List Manager Policies to allow the connections to be trusted thus overriding the Windows default.
To configure this setting, you must access the Local Security Policy console. There are two ways to access the console.
Navigate to Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools >
Local Security Policy.
Press Windows Key+R to bring up the Run dialog. Type
secpol.msc and press Enter.

Installation
You must be able to answer the following questions before you can successfully run the Nexio Player installer.
Are you installing Nexio Player to run with high-res, low-res, or both types of media?
If you are installing Nexio Player to run with high-res media, what is the IP address of the device running LLM?
(It could be HDX, HDI, MGX, or MIOH.)
If you are installing Nexio Player to run with low-res media, what is the path to your GPRX server?
What is the IP address of your License Server?
If you are installing Nexio Player to run with Adobe Premiere
Pro, what is the path of your mounted Nexio CIFS share?
Which video standard do you use? (NTSC or PAL)

Software
Licensing
You must have licensing software running on your network in order to use Nexio Player. The licensing software makes sure that you are running the correct version of Nexio Player and that you are running the correct number of Nexio Player instances. You can license Nexio Player in one of two ways:
License Server
The License Server is preferred for licensing a site with many clients.
Allows site licensing of Nexio Player high-res capability.
Allows site licensing of PRX Player low-res capability within
Nexio Player.
14
Chapter 2
Installation
If Nexio Player is enabled for both low-res and high-res, a license for each respective capability is required and will be consumed as such when running.
Example: In a case where 10 seats of Nexio Player are running with both low-res and high-res enabled, License Server will show 10 instances of PRX Player and 10 instances of Nexio Player.
License Server version 2.0.0.1 or higher is required to support high-res Nexio Player.
Installing the License Server
Here is a summary list of steps you must take to activate the Nexio
Player license on the License Server.
Use the Install Shield Wizard to install the License Server.
Use the License Server to generate a file with the .ldat extension.

Mark-Out point.
The Destructive trim is only available when you are logged in using an Administrator account.

Clip Locators
Clip locators are stored with the ID in the MediaBase and are visible to other Nexio Player clients or Velocity editors.
Up to 1000 locators can be stored with each clip.
Each locator stores the Timecode value to mark its position, a locator number, and optional text.
Guest login account users can view but cannot create or edit locators.
Click the create locator button to make a new locator at the current playhead's position.
Use the period (.) hotkey to create or remove a locator.
Click the left or right arrows to jump to previous or next locator in an ID.
Use Shift - < and Shift - > hotkeys to navigate.

The second box allows you to enter text information that will be stored with the locator.
Click the checkmark button to apply and save the text into the locator or use Enter to apply the change.
Locator marks will appear in the center of the clip strip as small yellow blocks.

Software
Options
There are three software options available for Nexio Player:
NXA-NXP-OUT

NXA-NXP-H264
All three options are only applicable for use with high-resolution media.
See the
for information on licensing software options.

Chapter 4
Using Nexio Player
Hardware
Output
When Nexio Player is used in conjunction with the NXA-NXP-OUT software option and a compatible Blackmagic DeckLink hardware output device, full resolution video and audio can be monitored externally. This output feature works independently of the Full
Screen Video mode, and is available all the time when configured and licensed. The hardware output is only available for playback of high-resolution material, not for proxy.
Note. This output feature is for monitoring only, and does not support critical functions for play to air. As such, it provides best effort playback, but does not guarantee uninterrupted playback without loss of frames. Additionally, playback is not locked to external reference, so playback speed may run faster or slower compared to other devices.
DNXHD and
H264 Playback
When Nexio Player is used in conjunction with the
NXA-NXP-DNXHD or NXA-NXP-H264 software options, the licensed codecs, respectively, are available for playback. An ID that does not have a proper license will simply not load for playback.

Premiere® Pro
49
You can use Nexio Player to filter, search, and sort IDs in the high-res MediaBase, preview the ID inside the embedded video player and then drag-and-drop the ID from the MediaBase into
Adobe® Premiere® Pro. Premiere Pro uses the media linked through the mapped Nexio CIFS share for direct on-SAN editing.
Connections and Settings
Nexio CIFS Share
Nexio CIFS share is typically set up with its own network drive.
For Example: 172.16.239.23/Nexio01 mapped as drive Z:
The Windows 7 client will authenticate with CIFS using a Nexio login and password.

Windows clients will authenticate with CIFS using a Nexio user login and password.
See section Connecting from Windows 7 Client workstation in the current Nexio FCP Integration Gateway User Guide.
The CIFS share will be entered in the Nexio Player settings >
Mounted path.
Up to 5 Adobe Premiere Pro PC clients can be connected to the
Nexio CIFServer.

Using Nexio
Player with
Premiere Pro
The best way to use Nexio Player with Adobe Premiere Pro is to position both applications on your workspace so you can drag and drop clip IDs from the MediaBase into the Premiere Pro project tab.
You can drag and drop the ID from the MediaBase to the Premiere
Pro bin or sequence either from the ID list in the MediaBase or from the video window of the loaded ID.

Once the ID has been dropped in the bin, Premiere Pro links to the file via the CIFS share path. This allows for direct access without copying or moving the file. Linking support includes video as .mov, audio as .aiff, and stills as .jpg, .tif, .tga, .png, .bmp, or .psd.
If the file cannot be linked to, an error will display.
