Thank you for purchasing a Canon product.
Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3 is a remote switch with the
following timer control and exposure count control functions. It is very
useful for time-lapse photography of blooming flowers,
astrophotography, etc.
(1) Self-timer
(2) Interval timer
(3) Long exposure timer
(4) Exposure count control
(5) Remote switch function
* Connectable to the camera 's quick-lock remote control socket.
* The time is settable in 1-sec. units from 1 sec. to 99 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 sec. The
set time period can be used for any timer function.
* The remote switch function can be used without battery power.
* Extension Cord ET-1000N3 (sold separately) can extend the TC-80N3's distance to the
camera by 10 meters.

About the LCD Panel
The display panel uses a liquid crystal display. With time, the display will
become lighter and harder to read. In such a case, take the product to your
nearest Canon Service Center to replace the display panel (at cost). At low
temperatures, the display response may beccome slower. And at 60°C/140°F
and higher temperatures, the display may blacken. In either case, the display
will return to normal at room temperature.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two
conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must
accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
Do not make any changes or modifications to the equipment unless otherwise specified in the
instructions. If such changes or modifications should be made, you could be required to stop
operation of the equipment.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a class B digital
device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide
reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment
generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in
accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications.

Hold indicator
1. Installing the Battery
The TC-80N3 uses one lithium CR2032 battery.
* To prevent camera misoperation, disconnect the TC-80N3 from the camera before
installing the battery.

Use the tip of a ball-point pen or
similar instrument to press the
battery compartment button.
Then open the battery
compartment cover as shown in
the figure.
Put the battery on the battery
compartment cover. Refer to the
+ — markings on the cover and
make sure the battery orientation
is correct. If the battery is
installed incorrectly, the TC-80N3
will not operate.
Close the battery compartment
cover.
OU If the battery contacts are soiled, corrosion or improper electrical contact
may result. Before installing the battery, wipe the battery contacts with a
clean cloth.

* The TC-80N3 does not have a power switch.
* When the battery is removed, all TC-80N3 settings will be cleared.
* In low temperatures, battery performance may be affected temporarily. It
should return to normal at room temperature.

2. Connection to the Camera
Remove the camera's remote
control socket cover.
* Put the remote control socket cover into
the TC-80N3's remote control socket
holder.
2 Insert the TC-80N3's plug into
the camera's remote control
socket.
* The plug and socket will lock together.
* To push in the plug, press the top of the
plug. Do not grasp the silver part of the
plug. Touching the silver part will
prevent the plug from locking onto the
socket.
Oe Disconnection from

To disconnect the plug from the
socket, grasp the plug’ s silver part
and pull it out as shown in the
figure.
3. Settings
O Mode Selection
Press the <MODE > button to select
the desired mode.
« Each time the button is pressed, the mode

Press the <> dial to select the
time unit to be set. Each time you
press the dial, the blinking digits
shift in the following order:
Seconds—minutes— hour.
After selecting the time unit
(blinking digits), turn the <[i>
dial to set the desired time for
that time unit.
* The time can be set from 1 sec. to 99
hours, 59 minutes, and 59 sec. For
example, follow the steps below to set
the time to 1 hour, 2 minutes, and 30
sec.

@ Hold Function
The Hold function disables all the TC-
80N3's buttons (except < >) and dial
to prevent any inadvertent alteration
of the settings after the mode is set. It
also prevents the <> button from
accidentally stopping an operation
that has started. Press and hold down
the <# > button for at least 3 sec.
until the indicator appears. To
cancel this function, press and hold
down the <> button for at least 3
sec. until the indicator turns
off.
Before taking pictures, check that the indicator is off. Then press the
<> button.

@ Canceling the Settings
Setting the time and number of
exposures to 0 cancels the respective
mode.
To cancel all the settings, press the
< MODE > button, <:8:> button, and
<p> dial simultaneously.
* Set the film advance mode to single shooting. If it is set to continuous,
continuous shooting may take effect regardless of the timer control.
* For unattended shooting, focus manually. Normally, the camera executes
AE and AF before taking the picture. However, if the camera cannot
autofocus the subject, the picture cannot be taken.
* Do not use the camera's self-timer together with the TC-80N3. Otherwise,
the TC-80N3's timer function
may not operate properly.
* To protect the camera's shutter, do not replace the film during timer
operations, Before replacing the film, first press the TC-80N3's <>
button to stop the timer operation.
4, Self-timer
Set the camera’s film advance mode to single shooting, then follow the
procedure below.
Press the < MODE > button to
select the €) mode, then set the
desired delay time.
2 Connect the TC-80N3 to the
camera and press the <>
button.
* The O icon will start blinking and the
time display will count down.
* When the delay time elapses, the picture
will be taken.
* To cancel the self-timer before the
= picture is taken, press the <> > button
©: again.
U * For bulb exposures, select the long exposure mode. Setting the camera to
bulb will not result in a bulb exposure unless the TC-80N3's long
exposure mode is also set.
* If you are using an AE mode, cover the camera's eyepiece to ensure
accurate exposure metering.
Gl If the long exposure mode and interval timer mode are set in
combination, the long exposure and interval timer will start after the self-
timer delay elapses.
* If the exposure count is set to 00 (blank setting), the number of time
interval shootings will be unlimited.

5. Interval Timer
Set the camera’s film advance mode to single shooting, then follow the
procedure below.
Press the < MODE > button to

* The camera will take a picture
immediately. One picture will be taken

6b * Set a time interval that is longer than the total time of the shutter speed
and film advance time. Otherwise, continuous shooting will result.
* When using flash during an interval timer operation, the time interval
must be longer than the flash recharge time. If it is shorter than the flash
recharge time, shutter release-priority AE will take effect.
Е * With Canon Speedlites having the SE (Save Energy) feature, the SE
mode is canceled and the flash is recharged automatically one minute
before the picture is taken.
6. Long Exposures
Set the camera’s picture-taking mode to bulb and the film advance
mode to single shooting. Then follow the procedure below.

continuous exposures will be made during the "long exposure" period or
until the film runs out, whichever is faster.

7. Setting the Exposure Count
If only the number of exposures is set and the < > button is pressed,
the number of exposures will be taken at one-second intervals. When
the number of exposures is set in combination with a timer mode, the
result will be as described below. For details, see page 33.
. © : After the self-timer delay, the set number of exposures will be taken at one-
second intervals.
* NON : The set number of exposures will be taken at the set time intervals.
* CN : Since the set number of exposures will be taken at one-second intervals, this is
not a suitable combination.
Press the < MODE > button to

desired number of exposures.
ip ¢ For autoexposure bracketing and flash exposure bracketing, set the
number of exposures to 3.
* For multiple exposures, set the desired number of multiple exposures.
* If flash is used, the flash recharge time may not be able to keep up with
the set number of exposures. Therefore, set the interval timer so that the
flash will have enough time to recharge between exposures.
« If the number of exposures is set for the ONON or” modes, the
remaining number of exposures is not displayed.
« Ifthe number of exposures is set to 00 (blank setting), the number of time
interval shootings will be unlimited.
8. Mode Combinations
The modes can be used in combination as described below.
* When a mode combination has been set and shooting begins, the mode icons are
displayed. The icon of the currently active mode also blinks.

9. Remote Switch Function
The TC-80N3’s release button can be used in the same way as Remote
Switch RS-80N3. The remote switch function does not require battery
power.
The release button can be pressed
halfway or all the way. Pressing 1t
halfway activates the autofocus and
sets the shutter speed and aperture
settings. Pressing it completely takes
the picture.
For long exposures or continuous
shooting, press the release button
completely and slide it in the
direction of the arrow. This locks the
button in the depressed position. To
release the depressed button, slide
the button back to its original
position.
* Even when DION or © is active, you can still take a picture immediately
by pressing the release button or the camera's shutter button.
* The current mode or set number of exposures will not be affected when
the release button is used. The release button does not function during a
long exposure.

Hold Function
appears when the < 6: > button is pressed for 3 sec. This disables
all other buttons and dial. The Hold function is canceled by pressing
the < 6: > button for 3 sec. again.
Display Panel Illumination
Pressing the < © > button illuminates the display panel for 6 sec.
Release Button
Provided for halfway and complete pressing. Release lock provided. Can
be used to release the shutter even during self-timer and interval timer
operations.
