ISSUE: SALEFORCE FOR OUTLOOK SIDE PANEL KEEPS ON LOADING
After installing the Salesforce for Outlook (SFO) plug-in with Side Panel enabled, the Side panel loads but it never
connects. It keeps on loading and goes into a loop and no data loads or shows up in the Side Panel
RESOLUTION
STEP 1
To reduce the potential communication issues, you can disable the “Salesforce for Outlook Add to Salesforce Toolbar” so
the side panel won’t be competing for connection with SFO during troubleshooting.
In Outlook 2007, click on Tools | Trust Center | Addins
In Outlook 2010, click on File | Options | Addins
Click on the GO button and un-check the box for it. Make sure the box for “Salesforce for Outlook Side Panel” is checked
*To get the Side Panel to load, try loading Outlook first and then SFO after Outlook is all loaded up and wait for a
few seconds ( or about a minute depending on your network and computer speed)
**In Case you are not able to uncheck the box on the "COM Add-Ins" try closing Outlook and reopen it as an
Administrator. You need hold down the SHIFT button on your keyboard and Right Click on the Outlook icon and click
on Run as Administrator
BROWSER SETTINGS – INTERNET EXPLORER
STEP 2
You need to configure the Internet Explorer browser settings
Configure your Internet Explorer settings
1- Close all internet Explorer browsers
2- Open Internet properties:
•
Windows XP: Click on Start | RUN and type in inetcpl.cpl and press Enter
•
Windows Vista/7: Click on Start and in the quick search box type in inetcpl.cpl and press Enter
3- The “Internet Properties” box opens up, click on the “General” tab and click on the “Settings” button
4- On the “Temporary Internet Files and History Settings” select the first radio button for “Every time I visit the
webpage” and set the “Disk space to use..” 150
5- Next, click on the “Security” tab and click on “Trusted Sites” and click on the “Sites” button. On the “Trusted
sites” window (as you see below on the right ), type in https://*.salesforce.com in the “Add this website to the
zone” box and click on “Add” and then “close”
6- Now from the “Security” tab click on “Trusted sites” again and click on “Custom level” button, on the “Security
Settings – Trusted Sites Zone” click on “Reset to:” drop down field and select “Low” and click on the “Reset”
button. Click on “Yes” on the warning popup box.
7- Then scroll down in the “Setting” box on “Security Settings – Trusted Sites Zone” until you see “Websites in less
privileged web content zone can navigate into this zone” and choose “Enable” and then click on OK and click on
yes if you get a warning message.
8- Click on “Privacy” tab, click on the “Sites” button and add the domain “Salesforce.com” in the box and click on
“Allow”
9- Next, click on the “Advanced” button and on the “Advanced Privacy Settings” check the boxes for “Override
automatic cookie handling” and “Always allow session cookies”, click on OK
10- Next click on the “Connections” tab and click on the “LAN Settings”. On the “Local Area Network (LAN) Settings”
make sure all the boxes are unchecked if you DO NOT have a proxy server ( You may need to ask your IT team if
you have a proxy server – if you do have a proxy server, make sure to check the 3rd box under “Proxy server”
and populate the Address and port number
11- Lastly click on the “Advanced” tab and make sure you have the “Allow active content to run in flies on My
Computer*” box is checked and the “Check for server certificate revocation” UN-checked
12- Click on OK to close Internet Options and open up Internet Explorer.
13- Click on “Tools” | “Compatibility View Settings”
14- On the “Compatibility View Settings” windows, add “Salesforce.com” and check the “Display all websites in
Compatibility View” box and click on “Close”
15- Restart IE
