General Safety Marks

The following statements apply to this device.

CAUTION

There is danger of explosion if the battery is incorrectly replaced.

Replace only with Ray-O-Vac ® no. BR2335 or equivalent recommended by manufacturer. See Owner's Manual for safety instructions. The battery used in this device may present a fire or chemical burn hazard if mistreated. Do not recharge, disassemble, heat above 100°C or incinerate. Dispose of used batteries according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Keep battery out of reach of children.

Unpacking and Setup

NOTE: If your unit is equipped with dual power supplies, these should be connected to independent sources of power to provide continuous operation in the event a power source fails.

Congratulations on your purchase of the SEL-2730U Unmanaged Ethernet

Switch! This device is ready to use—just apply power, and it is fully functional.

The SEL-2730U normally ships with the mounting hardware configured so that the ports are on the rear of the chassis. The mounting ears can be reversed so that the ports are accessible from the front panel.

Startup

When you apply power to the unit, all indicators will be OFF for a little less than 30 seconds until the unit starts. At that point, the green ENABLED LED illuminates. If network cables are connected to any of the ports, the associated link or activity lights may illuminate to display port status as explained below.

LED Indicators

Each rear-panel Ethernet port has a corresponding pair of LED indicators on the front panel, a yellow indicator above a green one. Refer to the following table for interpretation of the states of these LED indicators. Note that the connector for each port on the rear panel also has built-in status indicators.

Trouble Indicators

Insertion of the incorrect type of small form-factor pluggable (SFP) transceivers into the SEL-2730U SFP slots causes the activity and link lights on the corresponding port to illuminate alternately at a rate of about once per second.

Under normal conditions, the PWR LEDs are green for a healthy power supply and power source. A red PWR LED indicates failure of the power supply unit and that you should return the power supply unit to SEL for service.

Some non-SEL equipment connected to the 10/100 fiber ports of the

SEL-2730U may indicate a fault if it is not compatible with Far End Fault

Indication (FEFI). If this occurs, contact your SEL representative for more information.

About the CD

Some components of the device firmware are open source. The CD contains files necessary for distribution according to the licensing terms for those components. The CD is for reference only, and is unnecessary to operate this equipment.
