Frequently asked questions

To select a CSF from Adobe Bridge, choose Edit > Creative Suite Color Settings. In the Suite Color Settings dialog box, select the relevant CSF and then click Apply. This will synchronize all Adobe Creative Suite 3 components to this CSF. For a CMYK commercial print workflow, select North America General Purpose 2 as the CSF in Adobe Bridge. For a mixed RGB-CMYK print workflow, select the North America Prepress 2 setting in Adobe Bridge.

To convert RGB images to CMYK for print, choose Image > Mode and select CMYK Color. Photoshop CS3 uses the default CMYK working space profile to convert RGB to CMYK. The CMYK image may appear slightly desaturated when viewed on your monitor. However, the colors are now appropriate for printing on a typical offset press in North America.

To preview blacks more accurately in Illustrator or InDesign, choose Preferences > Appearance of Black. For On Screen, select Display All Blacks Accurately to show the difference between 100% K and a rich black. For Display All Blacks as Rich Black, both blacks will appear the same on-screen. You can also choose to preview black objects more accurately in Acrobat 8 Professional by choosing Advanced > Print Production > Overprint Preview.
