Creating a Post Firstly, make sure you are posting as the page, and not as your personal Facebook account. To change the default behaviour for this, please see Post Attribution. Otherwise, the small icon on the right hand side will allow you to choose who you are posting as. To create a post, simply go to your Page and on the top right, under your profile and cover photo, you will see this: Three ways to post content to your Facebook page: 1. Text Click on the What have you been up to? text and enter the text for your post. 2. Photos If you have a photo, photo album, video or a website you would like to include, simply click the camera icon below the post to add one or multiple photos, or click the Photo / Video on the top to create a new photo album or to upload a video. Another alternative is to simply drag and drop the image(s) from your computer to the Facebook post area. If you are linking to a website or a video that is online (e.g. YouTube or Vimeo), simple paste the link in the post and it will automatically creating a small preview and play button. If you don’t want this preview, simply hover over it and click the white X button on the top right hand side to remove. Sometimes you may notice that when you paste a link there is no photo, and the reason for this would be that there were no photos found on the webpage you are linking to. With website links (not videos), you can also edit the text that is seen in the preview. When you hover over it, the text will turn yellow, and clicking it will allow you to edit it to your liking. With images you are also able to select which image (in which case arrows will be displayed) you would like to use, or you can even upload a custom image from your own computer by clicking “+ Upload Image”. Photo Album uploads will show up as a post on your timeline, with a selection of the first photos from the album along with the album description. This will in turn show up in your followers’ newsfeeds as a post. Any photos that are added to the album at a later stage will also show up as posts. This can be used as a way to keep traffic coming to your album rather than releasing a full batch of photos at once. Also note that you are able to select the album cover photo by going into the album, clicking the “Edit” button near the top and then hovering over the photo you like and clicking the downward arrow. The menu item you are looking for is called “Make Album Cover”. A general rule of thumb is to choose one of the best photos as the cover, as that will be the first thing people see when they view your “Photos” page. 3. Sharing a post Sharing a post is the easiest way to create a post, as you will simply share a post that’s written by another person or page on Facebook. You can add your own text or just leave it blank (the text from the original post will still be visible). To create the post, simply click the “Share” button on the bottom of the page, but please make sure you share it on the page you manage and not your personal timeline, which can be found through a drop-down menu on the top. See an example on the following page. Scheduling a post You can prepare a post and schedule it to be published on your Page at a different date. Scheduled posts need to be shared between 10 minutes and 6 months from when you create them. To schedule a post: 1. Start creating your post at the top of your Page's Timeline 2. Click the downward arrow next to Post 3. Select Schedule Post 4. Choose the date and time you want the post to be published 5. Click Schedule To backdate a post: 1. Start creating your post at the top of your Page's Timeline 2. Click the downward arrow next to Post 3. Select Backdate Post 4. Choose the date and time in the past that you want the post to be published 5. Click Backdate When you backdate a post, the post will be published immediately and appear in the past on your Page's Timeline. You can also choose to hide the post from News Feed. All times correspond to the current time zone you're in. Learn how to see and edit scheduled posts. Note: You can't schedule a post from your personal Timeline. Regular intervals To save workload but also to make sure you have posts showing up on your followers’ newsfeeds, a good rule of thumb would be to at least have a couple of posts per week (depending on your capacity) Editing or Re-scheduling a post On your Timeline, click “See post(s)” under “X Scheduled Post”. Here you can view all your scheduled posts and you can easily edit/delete them by clicking the post. It's a good idea to backfill at least 10 posts on your page to various dates in order to have some content on your timeline. If people see an empty page they might think it's empty or inactive. The first post might be about introducing yourself and celebrating that you have a Facebook Page and of course urging friends and followers to like it and spread it to their networks. Inviting people to like your page It's very easy to invite people in your Facebook friend list to lake your Page. Simply click the invite button and select which of your friends (if not all) should receive an invitation. Besides Facebook there are a number of ways to invite, including sending emails, promoting it on your website, getting other Pages to promote it for you and more. Guidelines At this stage we haven't developed a fixed set of CDAT Facebook guidelines, but don't rule out that such a document might appear on this page in the foreseeable future. In the meantime, we can provide you with the ADF Social Media Guidelines and encourage you to adopt this, modifying it as deemed necessary. Here are some things to take into account when developing your own guidelines: How will you deal with trolls, spammers and challenging people? Making sure you are clear about what a CDAT is and what it isn't, including links to health, police and other relevant AOD organisations. Information about Page Roles and minimum activity by CDAT members as required Be careful about political statements and be certain about ADF's stance/policy around AOD If uncertain, do not post opinions that may cause harm or misinform etc. Using Facebook events Events is a great feature in Facebook and is especially interesting for CDATs. You would, and you should, add any kind of meetings, activities, projects, forums and so on where the general public is invited/allowed, and promote it via your Facebook page. Events can be added through the status window and you are able to invite and easily communicate with the possible attendees on a dedicated page that is created for each event. You can still link to Eventbrite and other websites if you are wanting to sell tickets and get RSVPs to fill out forms and so on, but it's the convenience of having it in people's Facebook and newsfeeds that makes this so easy and enjoyable. Facebook insights and getting to know your audience Through the Insights feature of Facebook you are able to get some interesting information about your audience, like their gender, age, location, the time of day they are most active, interactions with the page and more. Some of this information may be useful for developing strategies around posting and content. Using Facebook on your mobile phone It's very easy to use your mobile phone to manage your Facebook page. You can find the Pages Manager app on the 3 major platforms, with links to their download below: Android (Facebook Pages Manager) iOS (Facebook Pages Manager) Windows (Facebook) The options are obviously more limited than what you find on your computer, but things like posting and sharing is just as simple and can be done in seconds!
