XIRIUM
Project: POOLgroup – Mobile World Congress
„Our goal is to implement projects successfully. XIRIUM
was a huge help on our road to success at the Samsung
exhibition stand at the MWC in Barcelona.“
Johannes Roesel, Director POOLsound
www.pool.de
Johannes Roesel was also impressed by the technical support given by Neutrik. Juergen Bartel of the R&I
team in Schaan offered his assistance for the set-up on site. „The decision to use an external antenna has
improved the robustness of the system even more“, says Juergen Bartel. „It is really crazy what is actually
going on on all these channels, but thanks to our DIWA technology XIRIUM works excellently in such an
environment“.
The POOLgroup, an event production company located in Emsdetten, Germany was put in charge of the
trade fair booth of SAMSUNG at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The challenge to be met
was to connect the two parts of the booth from an audio engineering point of view. However, laying a
cable was not possible for safety reasons as the MWC management did not allow cable routing on, above,
or under emergency routes.
XIRIUM
The transmission line was approximately 40 m and a „line of sight“ connection was not accepted as all
technical systems had to be integrated „invisibly“ in the booth construction. What had to be transmitted
were line signals, two mono channels for the way there and one mono channel for the way back.
„I was surprised that XIRIUM worked so perfectly in such an extreme environment and that a stable connection could be set up and kept up“, says Johannes Roesel, Director POOLsound. „Both on the 2.4 GHz and
on the 5 GHz band lots of activity could be seen, but the transmission by XIRIUM was in no way affected by
it“. In addition the flexibility of XIRIUM allowed a perfect coordination with the other users of the frequency
bands at the booth.

Features and Customer Value
Neutrik – the vision
XIRIUM – the product
Neutrik, the worldwide leading supplier of professional entertainment connector products establishes
yet another milestone. Today, you can hardly imagine any stage, concert or public event without wireless
applications. Therefore, Neutrik undertook intensive research looking into the subject of wireless audio
data transmission.
With the digital, wireless audio connector network XIRIUM, the first product based on the DIWA
technology, Neutrik ventures a glimpse into the future. XIRIUM combines digital transmission and receiving
lines in one system and delivers the highest sound quality, unique reliability and ease of handling.
The vision of a wireless transmission system between two connectors and to transmit audio signals in
studio quality has been turned into reality by Neutrik with the help of the innovative DIWA technology and
the product XIRIUM, a digital, wireless, audio network.
Plug and Play – due to the ease of set-up and the automatic frequency management, the search for free
frequencies and the selection of channels no longer apply. With XIRIUM a bi-directional audio network can
be built up in which the signal sources and signal receiver can be integrated wirelessly.
A 4 channel basis unit (XIRIUM TRX) together with mobile transmission (XIRIUM TX) and receiving units
(XIRIUM RX) give first access to the XIRIUM network. With an extension unit the network can easily be
upgraded to a total of 8 channels. Allocation and the selection of input and output channels are flexibly
configurable and allow the versatile use of the network.
DIWA – the technology
With DIWA (Digital Wireless Audio) Neutrik has developed a technology which stands for digital data
transmission without data compression but provides high-level sound quality. Though wireless, the audio
signals are transmitted by DIWA in cable quality. As a result no compromise from an audio point of view
needs to be made in situations where no cable can be used. The technical data proves this impressively:
24 bit / 48 kHz sampling, THD (total harmonic distortion) < 0.01% @ 1 kHz, SNR (signal-to-noise ratio)
> 105 dB @ 1 kHz (dynamic) and last but not least a very short delay of 3 msec.
The innovative DIWA technology together with the usability and easy handling of the XIRIUM products
delivers a unique flexible package that eliminates time-consuming planning and set-up work.
Choosing the 5 GHz frequency band eliminated the need for time-consuming approval processes and
extensive channel management. A transmission and receiving protocol specifically developed for DIWA
as well as patented error correction functions guarantee a robust and noiseless transmission of the data
packet and best functionality.

Conventional systems usually compress the audio signal, transmit it in low dynamic ranges and then
expand it again in the receiving unit. XIRIUM units are able to transmit the audio signals in an unaltered

with crystal-clear trebles and full bass. By eliminating

Multi-functional Network
Quick set-up and reliable operation
A XIRIUM network can run up to 8 audio channels. Here, not only receiving lines, but also
transmission lines can be set up. The bi-directional DIWA technology enables the integration of
both signal sources and signal receivers in the wireless network. Flexible, reliable audio solutions
in one network without an annoying clutter of cables have now become reality. XIRIUM shows
its strength as stand-alone solution as well as complementing existing set-ups.
Highest reliability yet facilitating rapid set-up and dismantling – this is the fundamental concept of
the Neutrik wireless audio connector network solution. As well as conventional signal sources,
active loudspeakers can be integrated in the set-up without complex wiring.

Easy to use and flexible application
Inconspicuous and yet efficient
Whether a conference, election event or a presentation, the Neutrik XIRIUM network allows
the successful operation of many applications without time-consuming technical planning and
set-up work, due to its elegant operation concept and Plug and Play functionality. The flexibility
of the system is unique and makes possible swift and efficient set-ups without complex wiring
In churches or historic buildings the retrospective wiring of an audio system is often not
possible or only possible after considerable time-consuming technical effort. In such cases XIRIUM
impresses not only with its concept but allows the integration of microphones and loudspeakers
in one system which is both easy to handle and efficient.
