Dedicated to EOS cameras, the Canon EF 75-300mm IS ULTRASONIC is the world's first interchangeable SLR lens equipped with an image stabilizer. The image stabilizer helps prevent blur caused by camera shake at slow shutter speeds. Features 1. The image stabilizer reduces camera-shake blur by the equivalent of two faster shutter speeds. 2. Image stabilizer switch provided. 3. Ultrasonic motor for silent autofocusing. O Safety precautions and warnings to prevent malfunction. Fingerprints, etc., can cause faulty connection or corrosion. * Keep the lens surface clean. A dirty lens may hamper accurate autofocusing. 15 While the lens autofocuses, do not touch the rotating part of the lens. | DA To zoom, turn the zooming To enable autofocusing, set ring. the focus mode switch to AF. To focus manually, slide | the focus mode switch to M 16 and turn the focusing ring. Focus after zooming. | 4. Using the image stabilizer Set the image stabilizer to | (on). Press the shutter button halfway. About 1 second later, the image stabilizer turns on. Before shooting, look through the viewfinder and check that the image stabilizer is operating. 5 If a Custom Function has been set to change the autofocus-activating button, the image stabilizer turns on with the appropriate button. e Ifthe camera is tripod- mounted and the image stabilizer switch is set to |, the image stabilizer may misoperate. When using a tripod, make sure the image satbilizer switch is set to O. e Before taking a bulb exposure, turn off the Image Stabilizer switch (set to ()). 17 18 Fi | e With some cameras, the image in the viewfinder may appear to shake after shooting. This does not affect the photograph. e With some cameras with built-in flash, the image in the viewfinder may shake while the flash is charging. This is normal and not a problem. (See page 22.) * The image stabilizer may not be effective in preventing blur in the following cases: 1. The subject is fast-moving. 2. You are on a moving vehicle, etc. e The image stabilizer does not operate with the manual-focus EF-M camera. 5. Image stabilizer merits The image stabilizer is effective when: 1) You use a slow shutter speed to shoot low-light scenes. 2) Flash is not allowed and you must use a slow shutter speed. 3) You use a telephoto lens and cannot use a fast shutter speed. vs — “®" Effective shutter speed range Focal length | Shutter speed 75mm | 1/8 to 1/30 sec. 300 mm | 1/30 to 1/125 sec. | 6.
