DALingest Client Overview
DALingest Client Overview
About DALingest Client
D-Series™ DALingest is a client-side application for controlling frame-accurate ingests from VTR to video server inside a DAL automation system. It resides on a networked, Windows®-based workstation used for tape timing, barcoding, and read/write user-bit encoding.
DALingest Client:
Creates and maintains material records in the DALdb database. These records are used to generate reports concerning the clips that are stored on the video server.
Supports ingest control panels for capturing timecode data from tape and reviewing material from VTRs and video servers connected to a DAL Ingest Manager or DAL Channel
Manager Automation system.
Uses the real-time control capabilities of the Automation system to control a VTR and server ports.
DALingest Client is best suited for stations that want:
An integrated station database solution (integration with DALdb - a persistent station database for material). Here the product resides on a workstation connected to the private automation LANs and DALdb database.
On-demand, frame-accurate dubbing only (integration with playout automation) and do not need the schedule-based dubbing capability of Ingest Manager.
Both on-demand, frame-accurate dubbing and schedule-based, frame-accurate dubbing capability (have Ingest Manager automation).
About Limited Ingest Support
DALingest Client can connect to playout automation (A7500v3). However, since review and trim are not available on playout automation, these options are hidden from the user. DALingest checks for the existence of the ‘CONFIRM’ field in Store.CFG to determine if the automation system it is connected to has limited ingest ability.
If the field is found, the system is assumed to have full ingest capabilities.
If the field is not found, the system is assumed to have limited ingest capability.

System Requirements
DALingest Client Overview
For DALingest to make use of all its functionality, it requires all of the following components to be installed and correctly configured.
Operating System
•
As of DALingest v3.37 the minimum O/S version and IE version supported has been expanded.
•
DALingest can be installed on Windows 7, with IE 8 or better installed on them.
DALingest can still operate on Windows XP.
As of DALingest v3.35 the minimum O/S version and IE version supported has increased.
DALingest must be installed on Windows Server 2003 SP1 or Windows XP SP2 or better, with IE 6 SP2 or better installed on them.
The Windows 2000 platform is no longer supported.
•
For DALingest v3.34 and earlier the minimum O/S version is MS Windows NT family
(NT4, 2K, XP) with the most recent service packs installed.
Note: If installing an O/S, it is always best to go to the latest Service Pack for that O/S (e.g.
SP3 for Windows XP).
MDAC 2.7 SP1 (Microsoft Data Access Components, required for communications with
DALdb). This ensures the ODBC, OLE DB, ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), and Remote Data
Services (RDS) technologies are supported on the machine where DALingest is to be installed.
•
The ADO components (including RDS) and some OLE DB modules require administrator privileges on Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows 2000, or Microsoft Windows
XP to install and register correctly. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/ for greater detail.
A DALdb session on the LAN that is accessible from the DALingest PC
•
•
Ingest Client supports DALdb running on MS SQL 2000 (or MSDE) or MySQL 4.0 (or better).
Support for the MySQL database requires the MyODBC (MySQL Connector/ODBC) driver be installed in order to connect to a MySQL database server.
•
DALdb schema version 1.12.01.03 and previous (where XX is a minor version number for the database).
Note: The schema version specified for DALingest Client must match the version specified for
D-AIS. Otherwise the DALingest Client application will be unable to save records to the
database.

DALingest Client Overview
DALingest License File
DALingest will not run unless a valid “Licence.cfg” file is present in the directory containing the
DALingest executable and initialization files (“DALingest.exe” and “DALingest.ini”) indicating that
DALingest is authorized to run on the specific workstation hardware.
To obtain a valid “Licence.cfg” file: The required “Licence.cfg” file must be obtained from
Imagine Communications.
If this file is missing, does not include a recognized digital signature from Imagine
Communications, or has been modified after the digital signature was generated, then
DALingest will not start up and instead an informative error message is displayed.
About “Licence.cfg”
Sections
The “Licence.cfg” consists of one or more sections (indicated by the line “[section name]”), much like a Windows INI file. DALingest ignores the contents of any sections except the
“[DALingest]” section, which must be present.
Parameters
The “Licence.cfg” configuration file may contain the following parameters:
Parameter
CLIENT_ID1
CLIENT_ID2
! some text
Description
A string identifying the client to whom the License configuration file is issued.
An additional identifying string (typically used to identify one of several installations licensed by the same client).
Note 1: The parameters “CLIENT_ID1”, “CLIENT_ID2” normally appear at the top of the “Licence.cfg” file, before the start of any application specific sections (so they are common to all Windows
applications sharing a particular “Licence.cfg” file).
Note 2: The DALingest “Help|About DALingest…” dialog box also displays the client ID strings from the DALingest “Licence.cfg” file.
Lines beginning with “!” are ignored (so they can be used for comments).

D-Series™ DALingest Client v3.39
Installation Reference DALingest Client Overview
Parameter
[DALingest]
[some other section name]
Description
This indicates the start of the Licence.cfg section that is intended for DALingest.
DALingest ignores any other sections in the Licence.cfg file apart from the DALingest section. This allows DALingest to:
-
Share a single Licence.cfg file with other Windows applications (e.g. DALstation).
-
Share a copy of the same file as other D-MAS Windows applications (e.g. DALpanel or DALstation).
ETHERNET_ADDR This entry is used to limit DALingest to executing on specific hardware. The computer the DALingest is running on must have a network interface with an Ethernet address matching one of these entries.
-
It consists of six 2-digit hexadecimal numbers separated by colons (e.g. ETHERNET_ADDR=02:07:01:10:A9:A3).
-
This parameter may appear more than once to specify multiple cards.
Note: The “ETHERNET_ADDR” parameter is similar to that already used in existing D-MAS product “Licence.cfg” files.
Minimum “Licence.cfg” file Requirements
A minimal “Licence.cfg” file for DALingest has client identification strings and a “[DALingest]” section with a single ETHERNER_ADDR entry:
! WARNING - Editing this file will stop the automation system from running!
CLIENT_ID1="Example Client Name"
CLIENT_ID2="Installation Name"
[DALingest]
ETHERNET_ADDR=00:20:AF:F0:C4:0C
SIGNATURE: DAL-DMAS "Authorized Agent" 2005-10-17 16:57:27

9E2281EB5F53CF1132238DDD18C8FEE71B2AA436
However, it is more typical to provide:
A single file for a customer site with multiple “ETHERNET_ADDR” entries (one for each workstation running DALingest), or
A single file for multiple applications (e.g. one set of “ETHERNET_ADDR” entries in the
“[DALingest]” section, and another set in a “[DALstation]” section).

Installation Reference DALingest Client Overview
DALingest does not impose any specific limit on the number of ETHERNET_ADDR entries that it recognizes (other than the limit imposed by available memory).
Obtaining the Ethernet Address
There are two common methods for obtaining the Ethernet address.
“Network Connections” applet
On Windows XP, use the control panel “Network Connections” applet.
3
4
Step
1
2
Action
On Windows XP, select Start>Control Panel> “Network Connections”.
Select the appropriate “Local Area Connection” entry.
Right click and then invoke “Properties…” from the context menu.
Hover the mouse cursor over the description of the network adapter in the box labeled “Connect using” and the Ethernet appears in a tooltip (labeled
“MAC Address”).
“ipconfig /all” Command
Open a command prompt window and use the command “ipconfig /all”. This lists various properties of the network adapters including the “Physical Address”.
Note: The “Licence.cfg” file uses a “:” character to separate the individual bytes of an Ethernet address, while Windows uses “-”.
About Configuring DALingest Client
When DALingest starts up, it immediately attempts to connect to its three components: DALdb,
D-MAS, and the Jog/Shuttle panel. The status bar at the bottom of the application shows the status of these connections.
All devices automatically attempt to connect on startup. If the device cannot connect or there is a configuration error, the user is notified (except on startup).
When the indicator is shown in red, the device is disconnected. The user can click once on the device in the status bar to attempt to reconnect it.
To configure the devices and the ingest parameters, visit the configuration dialogs located under the Configure menu.

Contour ShuttlePro 2
The Contour Shuttle Pro2, with its unambiguous button operation, helps simplify and streamline the ingest process. This device can be used as the primary ingest tool for moving material into the transmission system. This panel is used in processing material quickly and efficiently while supplying quality assurance. To provide this functionality, the device is used in conjunction with the DALingest Client workstation. The workstation displays the events to be ingested and the control panel provides a “hands-on” user interface.
Jog Wheel, Shuttle Ring Limitations
Although the ShuttlePRO2 panel allows for simultaneous movement of the outer shuttle ring and jog wheel, doing so will display inaccurate timecodes within DALingest. Avoid simultaneous movement of the jog wheel and shuttle ring.
To Configure the ShuttlePro2
Configuration of the ShuttlePRO2 panel is automatic and does not require operator input. to configure any open Contour Shuttle Pro2 buttons, use procedures detailed in manufacturer documentation. The following image illustrates the ShuttlePro2 Button Layout.

The ShuttlePRO2 is a plug-n-play USB device and does not require any special configuration. Just plug it into an available USB port on the DALingest Workstation.
IMPORTANT: Before installing the ShuttlePRO2 on the DALingest workstation, ensure any previous installation of this device has been removed. Not removing Shuttle Device Software may cause erratic panel behavior.
Microsoft DirectX 8.1 Requirement
If the client operating system predates Microsoft Windows XP, a ShuttlePRO2 Panel cannot be used without first installing Microsoft’s DirectX library. Microsoft’s DirectX library contains a second library, DirectInput, which is used to obtain panel notifications (i.e. button presses and jog/shuttle wheel movement) from the ShuttlePRO2 panel. The DirectInput technology allows for automatic configuration of the ShuttlePRO2 panel.
The dinput8.dll file (i.e. Microsoft’s DirectInput Library) is included with the Microsoft DirectX installation. The Microsoft DirectX installation files can be found at the following location: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=db685892-afc4-40e3-bad0d4db291a8095&DisplayLang=en

About Configuring Multiple Ingest Control
Panels
DALingest supports the configuration of multiple ingest control panels. Although multiple panels may be configured, communication is limited to one panel at a time, with the panel currently attempting communication is termed the default panel.
Detecting a Default Panel Automatically
If both a DAL Jog/Shuttle Control Panel and ShuttlePRO2 Panel are configured and connected but a default panel has not been selected, the ShuttlePRO2 Panel takes precedence as the default panel.
If a ShuttlePRO2 panel is not connected and a default panel has not been selected, the first configured serial port panel in the configured panel list will be set as the default (even if it is not connected).
If the current default panel becomes disconnected from the workstation and the operator does not select a different default panel, reconnecting the panel allow the operator to continue using the previously disconnected panel.

[CodeID] is a single character which represents the type of barcode that has been scanned.
e – represents an Interleaved 2 of 5 format, which is parsed as a Sony barcode
n – represents a Code 39 format which is interpreted as a single material ID
[CR] is 0x13, the ASCII carriage return character.

Specify a User name and Password. The username and password are session specific and should be provided by the administrator of the DALdb database.
Full access to all the tables in the database is required for DALingest to operate; DALingest does no explicit checking for permissions.
Specifying the D-AIS Database
Configuration
DALingest Client supports the D-AIS database schema and D-AIS or DALdb running on MS SQL
2000 (or MSDE), or MySQL.
Note: The schema version specified for DALingest Client must match the version specified for D-
AIS. Otherwise the DALingest Client application will be unable to save records to the database.
INI [DB] Key Setting
Version=NN.##.xx.yy (For example: 1.10.01.00)
(Where,
NN is the version number
## is a major version number for the database
XX is a minor version number for the database
yy is a minor version number for the database.)
This key allows DALingest Client to correctly support the D-AIS database schema. Specify the target database schema.
Specifying Version=1.10.01.00, or an invalid value, causes DALingest Client to use the original
DALingest/DALdb schema.
Configuring for Database Redundancy
DALingest permits the setup of two machines, database-1 and database-2. These correspond to two machines, one which is CPU-1 and one which is CPU-2.

D-Series™ DALingest Client v3.39
Installation Reference Configuring the Database
On startup, load, and save, DALingest automatically detects which database is active and which is standby by loading the system table field, ‘_MAIN_CPU=1’.
If DALingest cannot connect to the main database, but can connect to the standby database, the standby database is assumed to be main.
If it is discovered that DALingest thinks one database is active when it is actually backup,
DALingest automatically switches to use the other database (_MAIN_CPU = 2) and informs the user of the transfer of control.
For instance, if CPU 2 is active, but when loading a material, DALingest reads the “_MAIN_CPU” field and retrieves a value of 1, DALingest switches databases to use CPU 1 (database 1 connection settings.)
This functionality requires database schema version 1.05.00 or above.

Upgrade Consideration: Managing
Announcement Type and Material Type
Before upgrading DALingest or upgrading the DB schema to 1.12.00.00 or later from a schema previous to it…
Current versions of DALingest set Material Type directly and “slave” Announcement Type to it (when it exists, i.e. schemas before 1.12.00.XX).
This differs from previous operations where Announcement Type was set directly and
Material Type was “slaved” to it.
Because of this change to which DB field is authoritative, care should be taken to ensure that the field values are equivalent for the clip inventory in DALDB.
Step Action
1
2
Run SQL Query
The materials which have Announcement Type and Material Type not corresponding to each other can be determined with the following SQL query which can be run from MySQL Query Browser, MySQL Control Center, or
MySQL command line:
USE DALDB;
SELECT MATERIAL_ID, ANNOUNCEMENT_TYPE, MATERIAL_TYPE material m where
NOT (
(m.ANNOUNCEMENT_TYPE='' AND m.MATERIAL_TYPE='') OR
(m.ANNOUNCEMENT_TYPE='PG' AND m.MATERIAL_TYPE='') OR
(m.ANNOUNCEMENT_TYPE='CA' AND m.MATERIAL_TYPE='C') OR
(m.ANNOUNCEMENT_TYPE='PR' AND m.MATERIAL_TYPE='T') OR
(m.ANNOUNCEMENT_TYPE='ID' AND m.MATERIAL_TYPE='I') OR
(m.ANNOUNCEMENT_TYPE='ZS' AND m.MATERIAL_TYPE='S') OR
(m.ANNOUNCEMENT_TYPE='ZM' AND m.MATERIAL_TYPE='M') OR
(m.ANNOUNCEMENT_TYPE='ZX' AND m.MATERIAL_TYPE='X')
);

Enabling Source Reservation
Reservation of both VTR and DVS devices is supported. At most one VTR and one DVS source can be reserved per DALingest instance.
Source reservation is disabled by default. To enable source reservation, set the
ENFORCE_SRC_RESV field within the SYSTEM table of the DALDB to ‘Y’.
Requires schema version 1.09.00 or greater.
Restricting Access for Material Deletion
In DALingest v3.32 restrictions can be placed on user groups through the use of the new
DIC_MATERIAL_PRIV in DALDB. This allows control to be set over which users who run the application are allowed to delete a material.
By default, material deletion is unrestricted.
It is enabled if an entry exists for the given privilege group in the DIC_MATERIAL_PRIV table and a matching group name is present in the DALingest.INI file.
When disabled, DALingest is unable to delete a material from the DALDB database or from external servers.
When material deletion is enabled, DALingest’s ability to delete a material is dependent on the privilege code set in the new DALDB table described below.
Material Privileges Table (DIC_MATERIAL_PRIV)
The DIC_MATERIAL_PRIV table within the DALDB schema provides the ability to enable delete functionality for DALingest clients who possess appropriate privilege. Privileges are set on a per group basis. There is a record in the table for each group unrestricted to delete material.
The following parameters detail the schema.
PRIV_OWNER
Privileged group name. The PRIV_OWNER field can be a group name entered manually, or be a default group name inserted at the time of schema creation. The default group name is
‘daemon’. This group name is used in the case that no other group privilege is chosen. The

‘daemon’ group has full access to material deletion (in order to support backwards compatibility).
DEL_PRIV_TYPE{=Y,N} (Default: N)
The privilege code specifying which deletion privileges are applicable to the PRIV_OWNER.
•
If blank, ‘Y’ or any other character, full access to material deletion is provided.
•
A ‘D’ character is used to denote a default group with full access to material deletion
If ‘N’, material deletion is disabled.
DALingest.INI
Enter a matching group name in the DALingest.INI file matching the name specified in the
PRIV_OWNER field of the DALdb DIC_MATERIAL_PRIV table.
Updating an Operator’s Group Status
If required, use the following procedure to update an operator’s group status
Step Action
1 From the DALingest main menu select Configure > Database > Database X
Settings, (where X represents the DB to connect to). The ‘Materials Database
Configuration Options’ dialog is displayed.
2
3
Select a group name from the ‘Group’ dropdown menu. The appropriate privileges are granted (depending on the DEL_PRIV_TYPE settings for that group in the DIC_MATERIAL_PRIV table).
Select either the ‘Save and Connect’ or ‘Save and Close’ buttons.
- The group setting is stored in the DALingest.INI file.
- If a group has not been manually set using the Materials Database
Configuration Options dialog, the default group is assumed (i.e.’daemon’), and unrestricted deletion privileges are granted.

To Configure a VTR Alias
The ‘Default VTR’ provides an easy way to specify a default device to control when DALingest successfully connects to automation – this device is automatically selected on connection.
VTR Aliases provide a way for the user to specify a list of VTRs that can be used to time tapes.
The ‘default’ VTR is the one the manual device control uses when a tape assignment is selected, OR when no material is currently open (to permit arbitrary browsing of tapes.)
The arrow menu at the upper left of the manual device control allows the user to change the current VTR (and subsequently the default VTR.)

To Configure a DVS Alias
DVS Aliases map a DVS ID to an automation source name. Specifically, when an assignment is made to a DVS ID, say “DVS1”, the source in this table that is associated with DVS1 is the source that is opened by the manual device control when an assignment to DVS1 is made the current assignment.
For example, if in the table, alias “DVS1” was associated with “VDR1A,” when the user opened a material and clicked on the server assignment to DVS1, the manual device control would start controlling the source “VDR1A.”
Important: Map the DVS alias to the Location Table name in D-AIS.

Note: Only record buses with non-blank entries in this table are displayed.
Important: Always map the Record Bus alias to the Location Table in D-AIS.
About Configuring a Second Bus Machine
DALingest allows a second DVS to be associated with a destination bus. The main reason for making this association is to reflect a configuration in D-MAS where main and reserve ingest server encoders are specified for bus machines for the ingest buses used by DALingest.
Configure DALingest to have more than one DVS associated with an ingest bus, only for those ingest buses used by it that have encoders for more than one server (queried by D-AIS) specified as bus machines in BUS.TBL on D-MAS.

(possibly set during the confidence replay review step), which may not reflect the material’s user data set by D-MAS on the second DVS (there is no means yet to review and trim a clip using a second bus monitor machine in DALingest). As a result, query results for the material on the server may be incorrect until such a time as a database refresh is done by D-AIS for the DVS. For this reason, this configuration is only supported for workflows that do not trim the clips using the confidence replay dialogue. In other words, the clip must be timed prior to the ingest (i.e.
Time Tape tab) or individually by DVS after the ingest (i.e. Time Server Clip tab).

About Advanced Ingest Operations
The Ingest Control Center dialog appears when an ingest operation is started (i.e. select the
Ingest button on the bottom of the Ingest properties pane) and the batch Ingest Control Center dialog appears when a batch ingest operation is started. These dialogs provide an at-a-glance account of the operation status, and allow the operator to start an ingest operation, abort the ingest operation, and acknowledge (accept) the recording when done.
Clicking the Options button or selecting the arrow button located to the extreme right of the
Ingest Input selection buttons displays a menu that permits the configuring of ingest edit options. This menu acts as a one-shot deal – the settings for review and confirm are remembered for the current ingest only. Use the dialog to set the system defaults (which are stored in the .INI file).
Selecting the Options button also opens the Advanced Configuration Options Dialog.

Installation Reference Configuring “TV Width codes”
Configuring “TV Width codes”
Introduction
DALingest v3.36 and higher support the full range of D-Series “TV Width” codes. Enable support for this option by setting the “Expanded Aspect Ratio” configuration parameter to 1 and by manually defining the list of available "TV Width" codes and corresponding list of equivalent
"Aspect Ratio" text strings in the [Options] section of the DALingest system ini configuration file.
For example:
[Options]
Expanded Aspect Ratio=1
TV Width codes=W|1|2|3|4|5|6|7|14|16
Aspect Ratio Text=W|1|2|3|4:3|4:3SP14|16:9SP14|16:9SP4|14:9|16:9
Note: On initial start the application automatically adds "Expanded Aspect Ratio=0" parameter to the INI file. The "TV Width codes" and "Aspect Ratio Text" parameters must be added manually.
About these options
DALingest v3.36 and higher provides configuration options “Expanded Aspect Ratio”, “TV Width codes” and “Aspect Ratio Text” in “DALingest.ini” file within the “Options” key section.
These options are read from the “DALingest.ini” file when the application is started. “TV
Width codes” and “Aspect Ratio Text” are read only if the “DALingest.ini” file contains string
“Expanded Aspect Ratio=1”.
The operator should compose “TV Width codes” and “Aspect Ratio Text” before starting the application.
When the DALingest application is closed, the current state of the “Expanded Aspect Ratio” parameter is saved to the “DALingest.ini” file. After the saving, the “TV Width codes” option contains the full list of supported TV Width codes separated by the “|” symbol. All spaces are ignored.
Configuring “Expanded Aspect Ratio”
DALingest supports the “Expanded Aspect Ratio” system configuration parameter that can enable or disable support for the full range of D-Series “TV Width” codes.

Using an ASCII editor open the “DALingest.ini” file.
Under [Options] Edit the string to enable (“Expanded Aspect Ratio=1”) or disable (“Expanded Aspect Ratio=0”) this configuration option.
When disabled (“Expanded Aspect Ratio=0”), DALingest continues to function as previously defined.
When enabled (“Expanded Aspect Ratio=1”), DALingest reads from the
“DALingest.ini” file the list of supported TV Width codes and the list of
Aspect Ratio text strings which corresponds to TV Width codes. All lists should be composed by the operator before starting the application (details to compose these lists are in the Configuration Changes section).
Under [Options] manually define the list of available "TV Width" codes and corresponding list of equivalent "Aspect Ratio" text strings
Save the changes to the “DALingest.ini” file.
Close and restart DALingest for these changes to take effect.
When the DALingest application is closed, the current state of the “Expanded
Aspect Ratio” parameter is saved to the “DALingest.ini” file. After the saving, the “TV Width codes” option contains the full list of supported TV Width codes separated by the “|” symbol. All spaces are ignored.

The “Aspect Ratio Text” options for the TV Width codes are:
•
Aspect Ratio Text=W|1|2|3|4:3|4:3SP14|16:9SP14|16:9SP4|14:9|16:9
The “Aspect Ratio Text” option contains the list of Aspect Ratio text strings for each supported TV Width code separated by the “|” symbol. All spaces are ignored.
Allowable Actions
The operator can expand a number of TV Width codes in the future (to cover the full range of numeric values between 1 and 16 and further).
The operator can rename each Aspect Ratio Text string.
About Composing “TV Width codes” and “Aspect Ratio Text”
When composing “TV Width codes” and “Aspect Ratio Text”, keep the following cautions in mind:
If the number of items from the “TV Width codes” option (N) is less than the number of items from the “Aspect Ratio Text” option (M), the last items (M-N) will not be read from the “Aspect Ratio Text” option. It is the same situation if the number of items from the
“Aspect Ratio Text” option is less than the number of items from the “TV Width codes” option.
For example:

Installation Reference Configuring Default ARC Value (Quick Data Entry)
Configuring Default ARC Value (Quick
Data Entry)
About Quick Data Entry
On the Material Details tab, Aspect Ratio, Type of Material, Nominal Duration, and Audio Mode
1 through 4 are QDE (Quick Data Entry) combo boxes. When dropped down, these combo boxes show an optional list of most recently used (MRU) selections, an optional list of default selections, and then any remaining valid selections not included in the first two lists.
Note: It is possible that values are shown in the combo box dropdown more than once, as values can be defined multiple times in the default list, and may also be found in the MRU list.
Material duration is set to the first default of DurationSet (associated with the duration combo box in the VTR control) for new material.
Benefits
By having the MRU and default selections near the top of the list, the operator can more quickly select the entries they are most likely to select.
Using QDE for Aspect Ratio, Type of Material, Nominal Duration, and Audio Mode 1 through
4 makes it possible to set up defaults for new material created by DALingest. The default that is used is determined by the first default (i.e. Def_1) as configured in DALingest.ini.
More details follow.
Configuration
The number of MRU and the number and content of default selections is determined by configuration in DALingest.ini.
For Nominal Duration, the default that is used is determined by the first default (i.e. Def_1) as configured in DALingest.ini.
Entry Form
The [Quick Data Entry] section of DALingest.ini has entries of the form: qde_tag="attribute-list"

Attribute names
The string qde_tag must be unique within this section of DALingest.ini file. The attribute-list consists of a sequence of name-value pairs separated by an equals sign:
name1=value1 name2=value2 …
Attribute names are always a single word (i.e. no spaces), but the value may include spaces if surrounded by single quote characters or if the spaces are escaped by a backslash:
name=’value with spaces’
name=value\ with\ spaces
Values can also contain arbitrary quote characters if they are escaped with backslash:
name=’value with \’escaped\" quotes’
Backslash also needs to be escaped.
name=’value with escaped backslash (i.e. \\)’
Current valid attribute values
Default=n, where n is 0 or positive to indicate how many default entries there are
MRU=m, where m is 0 or positive to indicate how many MRU entries there are
Def_1=’value with spaces’ through Def_n=’value with spaces’ to configure the default values
MRU_1=’value with spaces’ through MRU_m=’value with spaces’ to store the MRU entries
(maintained by the system)

Note: The default and MRU settings must exactly match the strings that would be shown in the combo box if no QDE were configured. If in doubt as to the setting to use, select the value desired in DALingest, then use the MRU value saved in the QDE configuration to define the default setting.
Values found in the default and MRU lists that are not valid, will not be shown in the dropdown combo box list. If the first default is invalid, new materials will have their values set to the application default (i.e. the default as it existed before this change) for the setting.

Configuring Source Reservation
Reservation of both VTR and DVS devices is supported. At most one VTR and one DVS source can be reserved per DALingest instance. Source reservations can occur through…
manual selection of a source from the source menu,
implicitly on start-up (VTR only),
following load of DVS stored material and choosing Time Server tab (DVS only).
Enabling Source Reservation
Source reservation is disabled by default. To enable source reservation, set the
ENFORCE_SRC_RESV field within the SYSTEM table of the DALDB to ‘Y’.
Requires schema version 1.09.00 or greater.
Configuring Implicit Source Reservation on start-up
To configure Implicit VTR Sources
Implicit source reservation on start-up attempts to reserve the source aliased in the
DALingest.INI file in section ‘Source Mapping’ with setting ‘Default VTR’.
To configure Implicit DVS Sources
Implicit source reservation on start-up attempts to reserve the source aliased in the
DALingest.INI file in section ‘Source Mapping’ with setting ‘DVS Aliases Default’.
Enabling Access to Source Reservation Management
Source Reservation Management is intended to prevent conflicts between multiple DALingest clients via reservation of a source during source usage. These management features can be made available to those clients who possess an appropriate level of privilege.
When enabled, Source Reservation Management allows a DALingest instance to release the source reservation of a different instance.
Source reservation management should only be used when required
Use of this functionality is only intended to resolve problematic cases when a DALingest client is unable to release its own source.

Clients affected by cancelled reservations do not receive immediate notification of the source release.
Setting Access
Access to source reservation management functionality within the DALingest application is restricted by default, and controlled by the ‘Src Reservation Mgmt’ setting within the ‘Options’ section of the corresponding DALingest.INI file.
Access is restricted when set to 0.
Access is granted when set to 1.
The DALingest.INI file is only referenced on application start-up.
Configuring AutoCreateMediaAssignment
AutoCreateMediaAssignment is set within the [Options] section of DALingest.INI. (0: disable, 1: enable.)
If enabled (1), DALingest automatically creates a media assignment when a material ID is entered that doesn’t exist in DALdb.
If disabled (0), when a material ID is entered that doesn’t exist in DALdb, the Media field is set to the same text as the Material field (but no media record nor a media assignment are created), the text is fully selected, and the field colored orange to indicate the media record and media assignment do not exist.
Configuring QuickPick String Values
These values are used in Search Window and Device Control Buttons.
The Search String: Duration dialogue has its edit fields replaced with combo boxes. Search text can be entered into these combo boxes as they were entered into the edit fields previously, or the combo box can be used to select a value from a list.
The Quickpick Device Control duration buttons have been replaced with a combo box.
The values found in the combo box list are taken from the .INI file and persist between invocations of DALingest. The values consist of both most recently used (MRU) values and default values. MRU values are found first in the list, then Default values.
Configuring Default and MRU Values
The number of default values, default values, and number of MRU values are configured in the

Attribute names are always a single word (i.e. no spaces), but the value may include spaces if surrounded by single quote characters or if the spaces are escaped by a backslash: name=’value with spaces’ name=value\ with\ spaces
Values can also contain arbitrary quote characters if they are escaped with backslash: name=’value with \’escaped\" quotes’
Backslash also needs to be escaped. name=’value with escaped backslash (i.e. \\)’
Valid Attribute Values
Currently, the valid attribute values are:
Default=n, where n is 0 or positive to indicate how many default entries there are
MRU=m, where m is 0 or positive to indicate how many MRU entries there are
Def_1=’value with spaces’ through Def_n=’value with spaces’ to configure the default values
MRU_1=’value with spaces’ through MRU_m=’value with spaces’ to store the MRU entries
(maintained by the system)

Example Entry for…
Quick Pick Duration Search
The following is an example entry for quick pick durations (with some line wrapping introduced by Word):
[Quick Data Entry]
DurationSearch=" Default=4 MRU=4 Def_1='00:00:05:00'
Def_2='00:00:10:00' Def_3='00:00:15:00' Def_4='00:00:20:00'"
Quick Pick Duration Set
The following is an example configuration (with some line wrapping introduced by Word):
[Quick Data Entry]
DurationSet=" Default=8 MRU=4 Def_1='00:00:05:00'
Def_2='00:00:10:00' Def_3='00:00:15:00' Def_4='00:00:20:00'
Def_5='00:00:30:00' Def_6='00:01:00:00' Def_7='00:01:30:00'
Def_8='00:02:00:00'"
This example duplicates the possible settings provided by the Quickpick duration buttons that were replaced. The default settings for this configuration can be made identical to those for the identifier DurationSearch.
Configuring the User Bit SOM Offset
An SOM- button is located on the User Bits control within the Device Control area of DALingest.
When the User Bits control and SOM- button are enabled, pressing the button fills the edit control above it with the SOM of the material less a configured offset. This location can then be used for reading/writing user bits.
To Configure the Offset
Configuring the offset is done within the DALingest.INI file:
[Options]
UB SOM Offset=x
Where, x = the number of seconds to subtract from the material SOM.

Installation Reference DALingest.ini Parameters
If the parameter is not configured, it default to 0 seconds, effectively making the SOM- button act as an SOM button.
This offset is not used elsewhere.
Configuring RTS and DTR Lines of Standard
COM Ports
DALingest Media Client allows the specification of states of RTS and DTR lines of communication ports that are used to permit standard PC motherboard COM ports, third party serial card COM ports, or USB “virtual” Windows COM ports to be used for panels.
DALingest is configurable through DALingest.INI to set, clear, or configure for handshaking the
RTS and DTR lines of a COM port.
In the absence of configuration, the ports are configured to clear RTS and set DTR to provide proper configuration for SER-8 and SER-4 cards for backwards compatibility. Only those ports that are configured for use for panels use the new configuration for the RTS and DTR lines.
Configuration
Configuration of the ports is made by editing the INI file directly – there is no operator interface provided as it is expected to be set up initially and not changed often.
Configuration of the RTS and DTR lines in DALingest.ini has the following form:
[COM Port Lines]
COMx=rts_setup|dtr_setup
Where,
X= the COM port number, rts_setup = blank or one of RTSSET, RTSCLR, or RTSHANDSHAKE, dtr_setup = blank or one of DTRSET, DTRCLR, or DTRHANDSHAKE.
If an action is not specified for DTR for a port, either by omitting a specification for the port, or omitting any DTR specification in the specification for the port (e.g. COM9=RTSCLR), then
DTR is set by default to enable SER-4 cards for backwards compatibility.
If an action is not specified for RTS for a port, either by omitting a specification for the port, or omitting any RTS specification in the specification for the port (e.g. COM9=DTRCLR), then
RTS is cleared by default to enable SER-8 cards for backwards compatibility.
Example Setting
The following is an example RTS/DTR setting:

Duration Rules
Supporting new interpretation of duration values within D-Series has been added. It can be enabled/disabled by using the new entry in the [Option] section named "Dropframe Duration" in the "DALingest.ini" file.
DALingest configuration is specified in the dalingest.ini file. The new entry in the [Options] section named Dropframe Durationsn has a value of 0 (off) or 1 (on). If it is not present, it will default to 0 (off).
Dynamically update segments during 1086 record
DALingest periodically refresh the UI for segments that aren't updated by the operator. This functionality allows the user to refresh the currently loaded clip to view new segments as they are being populated by DMAS by making DALingest periodically check and update its UI and internal data buffers if a new segment record is added or some other change is detected while recording of its currently open Material item is still in progress.
Implementation Details
A system timer is set to refresh the UI for segments that aren’t updated by the operator. The system timer is set to the interval defined by the DALingest.ini
"MaterialSegmentsAutoRefreshInterval" parameter if it is set to positive value. Otherwise, the timer is disabled and the UI is not refreshed.

D-Series™ DALingest Client v3.39
Installation Reference DALingest.ini Parameters
For every timer tic, if it has been enabled in the configuration, changes made by the operator are subtracted from changes made in the database, and the internal data structures are updated by the resulting changes and displayed in the UI.
DALingest.ini Configuration Change
A new "MaterialSegmentsAutoRefreshInterval" parameter was added to the DALingest.ini configuration file.
This parameter is used to Enable/Disable the Material`s Segments Auto Refresh and to set interval of the Material`s Segments Auto Refresh in seconds. Valid entries are:
0: (Default) Material`s Segments Auto Refresh are disabled.
Any integer value more than zero: Material`s Segments Auto Refresh Interval are set.
Any integer value less than zero: Material`s Segments Auto Refresh are disabled.

Installation Reference Reference: The Dub List File Format
Reference: The Dub List File Format
About Dublists
Dub lists are ASCII files that contain a set of event records, like those in a traffic file, that are used to identify materials that are contained on one or more pieces of tape media. They contain the following information at a minimum, and may or may not contain additional information.
Source Media ID (the tape that the material exists on)
Material ID
SOM and Duration (single segment)
Dub lists support unsegmented items, segmented items, and multiple unsegmented items on a media. For segmented items, each dub list entry comprises one segment of a multi-segment record. DALingest collates these entries and displays them to the user as one item.
If multiple dub list entries for a material ID are found, it is assumed that each dub list entry represents a segment (e.g. if five dub list entries are found for material MATID001, then
MATID001 is assumed to be a multi-segmented item with 5 segments); the overall duration and SOM of the material are calculated from the segment SOMs and durations.
If only one dub list entry is found for a material ID, the material is assumed to be unsegmented.
Dub List File Format
Dub lists are stored as flat, column delineated ASCII files. The layout of these files is stored in the
DUBLIST_FORMAT table of the database. Using this table requires database schema v1.06.00 or later.
Reference DALdb Schema Tables: DUBLIST_FORMAT, WORKLIST and WORKLIST_ASSIGNMENT are required by the DALingest Work List feature. These tables work interactively to support Dub
Lists and Work Lists.
DUBLIST_FORMAT
This table contains a record for each field to be retrieved from a dub list entry and stored in the corresponding WORKLIST_ASSIGNMENT field of same name. Some WORKLIST_ASSIGNMENT fields are required (e.g. MATERIAL_ID, MEDIA_ID, etc.) and some are optional (e.g.
FRAME_RATE).
If a field in a dub list record can be correlated with a field in the database, that field data is used to populate the database, otherwise, the field is ignored.
© 2015 Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential 4-February-2015 | Page 83 of 84
D-Series™ DALingest Client v3.39
Installation Reference Reference: The Dub List File Format
The WORKLIST_FIELD_ID field is the primary key of the table.
Parameter Settings
LENGTH
A numeric value representing the length of the dub list entry field.
START_COLUMN
A numeric value representing the 1-based start column of the dub list entry field (e.g. a field at the beginning of a dub list entry would have a start column of 1).
In other words this is the 1-based offset of dub list field within a dub list entry (i.e. column number)
WORKLIST_FIELD_ID={MATERIAL_ID, MEDIA_ID, SOM, EOM, DURATION, FRAME_RATE}
This 32-character uniquely identifies the dub list field within the database. It specifies the name of the associated WORKLIST_ASSIGNMENT column and can be any of the following:
MATERIAL_ID, MEDIA_ID, SOM, DURATION, or FRAME_RATE.
•
The SOM and DURATION fields in a dub list entry must be of the form hh:mm:ss:ff and the SOM represents an absolute value.
•
•
The FRAME_RATE field, if provided, must contain a numeric value (e.g. 25, 30, etc.).
Both MATERIAL_ID and MEDIA_ID fields must contain a valid string.
Defining a record for FRAME_RATE is optional. If the dub list entries do not contain a frame rate field, DALingest uses the configured default frame rate for converting time strings.
Records with a WORKLIST_FIELD_ID that do not match one of the supported values are ignored by DALingest.
To prevent ambiguity in computing a material or segment duration when importing a dub list, only one of EOM or DURATION can appear in the DUBLIST_FORMAT table. If both are specified, an import of the dub list fails, a pop-up dialogue indicates that the dub list format could not be loaded from the database.
EOM information is not stored in the WORKLIST_ASSIGNMENT table for a work list record, but is computed when the record is read, from SOM and Duration.
